Chapter 362: Prepare

When Derek had quit his job as Chief Executive Officer of Haven Group. He had done so because he had been so sick and tired of everything, of having to clean up messes that were not his. All the while being forced to keep his temper in check when he just wanted to yell at everyone and everything, for making such stupid decisions.

Looking back now, he could see that he had been a bit hasty in that decision. Now Derek had the advantage of being calmer, and also of looking at all of the damage that his uncle had done, and was currently doing since he had become CEO. It was as though Sebastian Haven’s intent with the company was to turn it into a giant safe haven for criminals all over the world.

Every single account that had been signed under his supervision, either belonged to a criminal or to someone who had ties to criminal organisations. Even some of the investors that he was willing to work with had some of the dirtiest records that Derek had ever seen.

What on earth was his uncle thinking? Most likely, he was not thinking, at all. Haven Group could not be seen associating with such people. He was literally blacklisting them without saying a single word. Derek needed to get back into his position and he needed to get back fast. Otherwise there would be nothing to salvage when he returned.

Looking over the papers that were detailing the current state of Haven Group, Derek could not help but pinch the bridge of his nose, doing his best to keep from screaming. Next to him on the bed, Emily was fast asleep, snoring lightly. She had stayed up with him, as long as she could, the two of them brainstorming possible solutions to all of the disasters that Sebastian was making.

Some might have said that he was being too presumptuos by thinking that he would be back in the position of CEO at some point in the future. That he should be more restrained in his approach. But Derek could not afford to think in a negative light. They had to oust his uncle. He had to be arrested for all that he had done. And once that Chapter was over and done with, Haven Group would still be standing. It would need someone to lead it, and like it or not, that someone was Derek himself. He would have to be the one to take control of the sinking ship that was Haven Group, and try to set things to rights once more.

It was no longer just about getting justice, and restoring the family honor. He had to think about the people who relied on Haven Group for their income. Sebastian was playing with their lives without care. Gambling with the livelihoods of people like theywere chess pieces. Pawns on a board that he could move in whatever way he wanted. But that was not the way things worked. If he was allowed to carry on like that, Haven Group would fall, and the results would be catastrophic.

Before he had begun looking into the state that Haven Group was in, Derek really had been worried that he would turn into his uncle somehow. But as he went through the files, he realized that Emily had been right.

She had not just been saying all of the things, that she had told him because she was trying to be nice. Derek and Sebastian Haven really were night and day. How could his uncle be so reckless? How could he think so little of the people who worked for him, who had worked for the company with such loyalty over the years.

So many people had been fired. While others had quit. But it did not matter how they had left the company. As far as Derek could see, they had all been placed on an unofficial blacklist.Companies unwilling totouchthem because they were scared of his uncle.

Sebastian was literally squandering everything. Tearing apart projects that Derek had spent months trying to make sure would go off without a hitch. But his uncle, with his gift of destruction, was slowly dismantling all of the hard work Derek had done over the years.

It was devastating to watch.

The more bad deals and sordid details that Derek came across.

The less he understood his uncle’s actions, it almost seemed as though the man was causing chaos just for the sake of it. It was hard to look at some of the questionable decisions that his uncle had made.

But Derek forced himself to do just that, because he had to come up with countermeasures, things that would fix everything when he finally returned to power.

Sebastian Haven might have been his relative by blood, but the two of them were clearly very different.

This was a man who had been given power that he had not earned, and if ever there had been a little bit of good in his uncle. Then having all of that power at his fingertips, with no one challenging him had burnt away that shred of goodness. His uncle needed to be stopped, and it had to be done in such a way that he would actually feel it.

Something that would take a great deal of effort given his uncle’s conniving ways and the fact that he seemed to have armour specially made to protect him from all that he had done.

Finishing off on reading a report that now stated that Haven Group was in cahoots with s pharmaceutical company. One that was known for creating medicines with dangerous side effects, a company that Derek had previously refused to work with, but his uncle had given them the go-ahead without even having to think too hard. Was the man out of his mind?!If it would not have woken Emily up Derek would have growled in frustration.

Since he could not do that, he forced himself to carry on with his research.

After reading through a few more things that had his eyebrows raising, Derek decided to put away everything. He would have more time to go through things after all.

After sending a thank you text to his mother for the files that she had sent him, Derek settled down next to Emily and got comfortable pulling her close as he allowed his eyes to drift shut.

His uncle’s day was coming. It was no longer just a question of if. It was a matter of when. freёwebnoѵel.com

And Derek wanted it to hurt. He wanted his uncle to be feeling it for a long time. The weight of all of his sins coming down at him at once.
