Snowstorm: I'm Super Rich in the Apocalypse-Chapter 375 Exploration
Chapter 375: Chapter 375 Exploration
After they finished speaking, the three of them left together, discussing the matter as they walked. They planned to check the area thoroughly, not overlooking a single spot.
If there were any mutations, they first needed to understand how the mutations occurred. Then, they would gather these individuals and let them do work like building houses—it didn’t matter exactly what, as long as they didn’t affect the normal people.
Outside, Gu Ci called together all the security team leaders for a meeting where he explained the situation and stressed its importance. He instructed them to bring anyone suspicious for questioning.
The security team quickly took on the tasks and dispersed to look for people.
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng decided not to return home today. Given the gravity of the situation and Chen Dasheng’s injury, if they left, Gu Ci would be left to handle everything by himself, which seemed unreasonable.
When things quieted down, Gu Pan suddenly thought of someone. "That’s right, Feng Xuan mentioned that their people ate mutant creatures. He should know better than anyone if they’ve changed somehow—maybe we should ask him."
Gu Pan had wanted to ask this before but thought it could wait. Now, unexpectedly, the situation demanded immediate attention.
They were unsure if the people with tumors could harm or infect normal people, but without clinical trials, no one would dare to experiment. Naturally, safety came first.
Lu Ruisheng and Gu Ci agreed that Gu Pan’s idea was good, so the three of them went to Feng Xuan’s room to ask him about these matters.
Feng Xuan had just eaten sweet potato pancakes and drunk some water, which seemed to rejuvenate him. Seeing them come in he could tell they had something important to discuss. "Is there something wrong?"
Gu Pan nodded. "Yeah, there seem to be people with tumors in Entertainment City. We want to ask about the changes you’ve noticed in your team after they ate mutant creatures. Is it contagious?"
Feng Xuan knew quite a bit about this. "Those who ate mutant animals developed tumors in about two months. It’s unclear whether they are benign or malignant, but they aren’t painful and they grow quickly. My master isolated us once he found out, because it started raining heavily, and we couldn’t separate too far. I stayed alone in a shipping container house, situated furthest from them on higher and safer ground. My master and everyone agreed I should carry a notebook with their names. If I could survive the apocalypse, it would be like carrying them with me—that’s how I safely survived. By the time they died, none had shown aggressive behaviors like attacking people; they all behaved normally. However, they lived and ate together, so it’s uncertain whether there was any transmission or infection."
Hearing this, Gu Pan and the others felt somewhat relieved, as they had worried that the mutations might make people aggressive, like a zombie that bites and then infects others.
If there was no such instance, there was no need for panic, but no one knew what these people might evolve into in the end. It had only been two months for those on Feng Xuan’s side.
Lu Ruisheng asked Feng Xuan, "Did you have any contact with their bodies after they died?"
"I was advised many times by my master before he left not to touch their bodies or collect them to avoid infection. So, I just watched from a distance, placed a gravestone for them quickly, but never touched them." Feng Xuan’s voice grew quieter and filled with guilt. He truly wanted to bury his master and teammates properly, to let them rest in peace, but he also couldn’t let down everyone. However, the situation made him feel very guilty.
Lu Ruisheng comforted him. "What you did was great; don’t overthink it. The information you brought back is very useful and can play an essential role in this situation and the base."
Hearing Lu Ruisheng say this made Feng Xuan feel a bit better.
After asking their questions, they returned to the lobby to wait for news from the security team.
A while later, a security team leader came with a man who had a tumor on his head and two others who appeared normal. The security leader was cautious, wearing leather gloves.
The man with the tumor was from the outside, along with his two teammates—they were few in number and didn’t resist since he knew they had no other choice in this place.
Upon seeing Gu Pan and the others, the man with the tumor hurriedly said, "This is just a lump, not contagious. Look, my friends are all fine."
Gu Pan asked, "Before coming here, did you consume any game you hunted outside?"
Hearing this, the man with the tumor trembled a bit. They didn’t know that eating mutant animals caused tumors, but from Gu Pan’s question, combined with the security’s search for people with tumors, he vaguely guessed something.
"Are you saying this tumor is related to the mutant animal we ate?" Although the man with the tumor didn’t know that consumption led to tumors, he had previously suspected that eating mutant animals was not a good thing.
Gu Pan didn’t deny it. "Yes, the likelihood is quite high. Thirty percent of people who eat them develop tumors. Out of you three, one showing these symptoms does align with that likelihood."
A middle-aged man next to the man with the tumor, who didn’t have one, was also scared. "What about those who don’t develop tumors? Could there be other changes?"
Gu Pan shook his head. "We don’t know yet. It’s still early days, and no one is certain about what will happen later."
Lu Ruisheng asked the man with the tumor, "When did you eat the mutant animal?"
The man didn’t hide the truth. "When we were outside about two months ago, we hunted and ate a rabbit. Last month, this lump started growing on my head. Initially, I didn’t pay much attention, but it kept growing larger and faster. I even consulted a doctor, but without proper equipment, they couldn’t make a definitive diagnosis and just mentioned it could be a benign tumor."
Finally, Gu Ci spoke up. "Because it’s unclear whether this symptom is contagious or if it could cause people to become irrational and harm others, we can’t take the risk. I must ask you to leave this place for now."
The man with the tumor understood—they had no choice, after all, this was someone else’s place, and outside of the base, if someone waged war on them, it would essentially be declaring war on the base. They didn’t have the power for that.
So, he said, "But we need a vehicle to return to our territory. It’s not possible to drive a car outside, could we swap our vehicle for motorcycles?"
Though motorcycles were not plentiful, they were willing to give them a chance to survive. Gu Pan said, "You can take our car." After all, they had others in their Space.
But Gu Ci disagreed with Gu Pan’s suggestion. "It’s more convenient to have motorcycles coming in and out of Entertainment City." novelbuddy-cσ๓
Gu Pan didn’t argue with Gu Ci over such a small matter. "Okay, we’ll follow your arrangement."
After they agreed, Gu Ci had someone bring over a motorcycle filled with fuel and also provided them with a meal—a gesture of thorough hospitality.
