Sons of a devil-Chapter 101: Peaceful days
Chapter 101 - Peaceful days
The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm golden glow over the kingdom that had been through hell and back. The war was over. The Rift had closed. The scars on the land were slowly healing, and for the first time in what felt like forever, peace reigned.
The palace was quieter these days, with fewer soldiers marching through its halls and more maids and caretakers tending to its gardens. The servants who had once lived in fear now moved with light hearts, knowing that their lives were no longer under constant threat. The royals, too, had settled into a new rhythm—no more battles to fight, no more enemies at their gates. It was the kind of peace most people had only dreamed of.
And as the days passed, the brothers—Cain, Leo, and Eren—found themselves rediscovering what it meant to live rather than merely survive. Their powers were no longer weapons of destruction, but tools of creation, helping to rebuild and rejuvenate the land that had suffered so much.
But that didn't mean they had become somber or serious.
No, if anything, their bond had only deepened in the most ridiculous ways possible.
The three brothers were an unstoppable force of chaos, each one more eccentric than the last. Cain, with his brooding intensity, had somehow become the one who suggested the most outlandish ideas. Leo, who had always been the more laid-back and carefree of the three, took every opportunity to mock the seriousness of their past battles. Eren, the ever-energetic one, bounced between them like an unpredictable whirlwind, causing chaos wherever he went.
One afternoon, the three of them found themselves in the royal gardens, the sun warm on their skin, with nothing but time ahead of them. Selene was inside, helping Eira with her recovery. Their parents had taken a short trip to visit the neighboring kingdom, leaving the siblings to their own devices.
"I still can't believe we survived that," Leo said, lying on the grass with his arms behind his head. He stared at the sky as though it were the most interesting thing in the world. "I mean, I'm not complaining, but I really thought I was gonna die at some point there."
"You almost did, you idiot," Cain grumbled, sitting cross-legged a few feet away. He was the calmest of the three, but even his patience was wearing thin with Leo's constant teasing. "You got knocked out cold twice. You're lucky to still be breathing."
"Yeah, yeah," Leo said, flipping onto his stomach. "But I didn't get possessed by the Rift. That was all you two." He pointed a finger dramatically at Cain and Eren. "I was just minding my own business, throwing lightning at bad guys. You two were out here being drama queens, fighting off literal demons and gods."
"Drama queens?" Eren shot Leo a look of mock offense. He grabbed a rock and tossed it toward Leo, who easily ducked.
"Shut up, Leo, and get up!" Eren shouted. "You're supposed to be training with me, remember? You've been slacking off lately."
Leo groaned, turning over onto his back again. "I don't feel like training. I'm in a post-war recovery phase. My body is... exhausted."
"Your body is lazy," Eren retorted, jumping to his feet. He motioned for Cain to follow suit. "Come on, Cain. Tell him to get his act together."
Cain gave a half-smile. "Leo, don't make me drag you by the hair. We don't have wars to fight anymore, but we still need to stay in shape. The last thing we need is you falling asleep in the middle of the next crisis."
"I'm never falling asleep again!" Leo shot back with dramatic flair. "Unless it's in my bed with a giant sandwich. Then I'll sleep for days."
"Yeah, and then you'll wake up complaining about how your muscles hurt from laying down too long," Eren snorted, rolling his eyes.
Leo sat up suddenly, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Speaking of muscles, you guys know what I've been thinking?"
Cain and Eren exchanged a skeptical glance. "What now?" Cain asked, bracing himself.
"I'm thinking of holding a royal game to see who's the strongest." Leo grinned. "We'll have an obstacle course, and we'll use our powers to make it more interesting. I'm talking fire, lightning, gravity—everything. We'll have an audience too! The servants, the knights, even our parents can come watch!"
Eren's eyes lit up at the idea. "Wait—that sounds fun!" He threw a fist in the air. "I'm in!"
Cain raised an eyebrow but said nothing. He knew better than to argue with Leo when he got a wild idea in his head.

"You really are a crackhead," Cain muttered, but his tone held no malice. "You want to hold a game in the middle of the royal gardens?"
Leo nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! It'll be perfect. And I'll finally beat both of you for once."
Cain and Eren snorted at the idea. "Yeah, good luck with that," Eren said, shaking his head.
The three of them spent the next few hours arguing and laughing about the details of the game, their voices carrying across the peaceful gardens. The servants who passed by glanced at them with fond smiles, glad to see the brothers finally enjoying themselves.
As the sun began to set, the brothers found themselves sitting together on the steps of the palace, the soft orange light bathing the courtyard in a tranquil glow. The air was still, the distant sounds of the kingdom settling into its peaceful routine humming in the background.
For the first time in a long time, they were truly at peace. No more fighting. No more running. No more desperation.
Selene joined them a short while later, her smile radiant as she sat next to Cain. "I hear you three are planning something ridiculous."
"It's not ridiculous," Leo protested. "It's genius. And I'm going to win."
"Not if I have anything to say about it," Eren shot back.
Selene chuckled softly. "I don't know how you all survive each other." She leaned against Cain's side, her hand finding his.
"Well, it's either laugh or cry," Cain replied dryly, but there was a hint of amusement in his voice. "And laughing is the better option."
The sounds of their laughter and banter filled the evening air as the brothers settled into their new life—one free of bloodshed, free of the constant threat of death. They weren't just brothers; they were friends, companions in this new world they had forged together.
And as night fell, they all knew one thing: they would face whatever came next together. No matter how crazy or unpredictable it might be, they would face it as a family.
In the distance, their parents watched from the palace windows, proud and content. King Darius and Queen Lysandra knew that their children were ready for whatever the future held. And though they had made many mistakes, they had all grown stronger because of them.
The kingdom was no longer just a place of power—it was a home. A home where laughter echoed, where the bonds of family held firm, and where the future was bright.
The brothers—Cain, Leo, and Eren—stood together, stronger than ever before. And with the love and peace that surrounded them, they knew that this new Chapter would be their greatest yet.
