Sons of a devil-Chapter 109: Whispers of tomorrow
Chapter 109 - Whispers of tomorrow
The golden sun spilled across the kingdom, painting the castle's stones with a warm hue that seemed to make even shadows smile. Life had bloomed again in the once-broken halls of power—laughter echoed more than screams now. The air had changed, softer, brighter, like a song being hummed in the wind. For once, the brothers—Cain, Eren, and Leo—had no looming war to prepare for. Just family. Just peace.
Cain stood at the balcony overlooking the courtyard where children ran and played, their carefree joy a far cry from the world he once knew. His hand instinctively found Selene's as she stood beside him, her belly softly rounded with their growing twins. She was glowing, not just in beauty, but in peace.
"They're kicking," Selene whispered, smiling as she took Cain's hand and placed it gently on her belly.
He froze, breath caught in his throat, then laughed—softly, reverently. "They're strong already."
She leaned into him. "Like their father."
Cain kissed her temple, then rested his forehead against hers. "Like their mother."
In the gardens, Eira and Eren walked slowly, fingers intertwined, their laughter dancing with the breeze. They had been through blood and fire, betrayal and redemption. And now, they were learning love—not as an escape, but as a choice.
"You still think you're unworthy of this?" Eira asked, voice soft.
Eren glanced at her, those usually quiet eyes open and vulnerable. "Sometimes... but then you smile at me, and the voices shut up."
She stopped and kissed him, long and slow, anchoring him with her warmth. "Then I'll keep smiling."
Across the courtyard, Leo spun Zara in a playful twirl before pulling her into his arms. The youngest of the brothers had grown more than anyone realized—once the mischief-maker, now the thoughtful heart of the family. Zara pinched his cheek with a grin.
"You're finally learning to dance."
"I'm finally learning not to step on your feet," Leo grinned back. "Miracles do happen."
Nearby, Queen Isolde stood beneath a blooming magnolia tree, watching her sons and their partners with quiet pride. King Azrael joined her, his hand brushing hers. Time had weathered them, but it had not broken them.
"They turned out... better than we could've hoped," Azrael murmured.
Isolde nodded. "Because they chose love. Over hatred. Over power."
The king swallowed a lump in his throat. "Because they had you. Even when I failed."
Isolde squeezed his hand, forgiveness soft in her eyes. "You came back. That's what matters now."
As the evening drew near, lanterns were lit in the trees, and the castle glowed from within. The entire kingdom gathered in the great hall for a celebration—not for victory in battle, but for life itself. The royal family entered hand-in-hand, the people cheering not out of fear or obligation, but love.
A bard sang a soft tune. Plates clinked. Stories were shared.
In the quiet moments between speeches, Cain pulled Selene close again. "You were the calm in my chaos. The light in my dark. You still are."
She looked up at him, eyes shimmering. "And you were the fire that melted the walls I built. You still are."
They kissed, and around them, laughter and love flourished.
The night closed in with peace—true, unshakable peace. And though tomorrow remained unknown, one thing was certain: together, they would face it all.
The feast continued late into the night, every corner of the palace glowing with light and warmth. Music floated through the halls—violins, flutes, and tambourines blending into the hum of conversation and joy. Long tables lined with food from every corner of the realm fed both nobles and villagers alike, and no one sat alone.
Cain and Selene, hand in hand, walked among their people. Servants bowed low, children ran up to hug Selene's growing belly, and even the older warriors smiled and offered their blessings.
"Have you chosen names yet?" a baker's wife asked Selene, eyes shining.
Selene glanced at Cain and smiled softly. "We're still thinking. But I want something strong. Something... meaningful."
Cain chuckled. "We have time."
The crowd chuckled along with them, and the warmth of shared hope settled over the space like a comforting blanket.
Outside in the rose garden, the stars blinked down from the dark velvet sky. Eren and Eira slipped away from the crowd for some quiet. They sat on the marble bench beneath the flowering archway, her head on his shoulder.
"I used to think the stars were mocking me," Eren said after a pause. "Every night, they watched me stumble."
Eira laced her fingers with his. "And now?"
"Now they're watching me heal."
She kissed his cheek. "You've come so far, Eren. You deserve peace. We both do."
From a second-story balcony, Leo and Zara watched the stars as well. She leaned against the rail, and Leo placed a cloak over her shoulders.
"You're thoughtful tonight," Zara said, peeking at him with a smile.
Leo gave a crooked grin. "Trying to act like a future prince, I guess."
Zara turned to him, brushing a strand of silver from his face. "You've always been a prince, Leo. Your heart made you one long before your bloodline did."
His smile softened, and he kissed her forehead.
Back in the ballroom, Queen Isolde moved gracefully among the guests, speaking kindly to everyone she passed. King Azrael watched her from afar, admiration and guilt still warring in his gaze. When she returned to his side, she saw it.
"Azrael," she whispered. "It's okay."
"I don't know how to stop regretting," he admitted.
"You don't have to. Just let it remind you how far we've come. Let it make you a better king now."

He nodded slowly, then took her hand and guided her to the dance floor. As the music slowed, they danced—years of pain and love expressed in every step.
Cain and Selene joined them, as did Eren and Eira, Leo and Zara. The royal family danced beneath the grand chandeliers, surrounded by the people who now saw them not as rulers, but as a family that had bled, broken, and healed.
And when the night began to wane, lanterns were released into the sky, hundreds of floating lights carrying prayers and dreams to the stars above.
Selene looked up, her eyes shining. "The future is coming."
Cain wrapped an arm around her. "Let it come. We're ready."
In the palace behind them, laughter still echoed. In the gardens, love bloomed. And above it all, the stars—once distant and silent—now blinked down in quiet approval.
