Soul system:Return Of The SSS-Ranked Troublemaker-Chapter 68: Finalized.
Zion gave a light chuckle. "Yeah, yeah. I’ll think about it."
Just then, his phone buzzed.
"There’s a reply!" he exclaimed, tapping the screen eagerly.
> It’s already on the way, sir.
—Wilfred
Moments later, the screen brightened. Full signal. Wi-Fi connected. Interlink was online.
"Finally... Alright, let’s do our research." Zion cracked his knuckles and leaned forward, opening a search tab.
He began with Mary Lance.
As he typed her name into the search bar, he frowned. "Huh? There’s a lot of fan wikis... and wait—fan clubs?"
"Just go to that old site—superhero.com," Zero said, resting his virtual avatar against the screen’s edge.
"Oh right. I forgot that site even existed. The UI looks like it’s from the Stone Age," Zion muttered, clicking it anyway.
"You know her hero alias?" he asked.
"Nope. Just type her full name."
Zion did just that: Mary Lance.
With a soft poof, her profile popped up.
"Let’s check her gallery first..." Zion said.
The moment the images loaded, both Zion and Zero froze.
Their faces flushed a soft pink.
"...Wow," Zero muttered. "You sure she doesn’t have a boyfriend?"
"No idea. Wilfred said she was single, but damn..."
The gallery was filled with glossy, borderline-lewd shots of Mary Lance—posing seductively, her piercing eyes locking with the camera, clad in a black, skin-tight battle suit that left little to the imagination.
"It says here this is her official hero suit," Zion noted.
"For this?" Zero raised a brow. "Must be for a sponsor gig."
"Sponsor?" Zion glanced at him.
"Yeah, y’know—big brands paying heroes to wear certain outfits, do weird poses, or appear in their ads. Gotta monetize that fame somehow."
"Oh right!" Zion snapped his fingers. "Didn’t you beat up some hero once, and now the company that sponsored him blew up in popularity? What was it again..."
"What’s with that creepy smile?" Zero frowned. "I think it was Debs Tools or something. I didn’t really care."
"You sound broke," Zion teased.
"Shut the hell up and click the About tab already."
Zion laughed and clicked it, scrolling through the detailed biography of Mary Lance.
As the video loaded, Zion scrolled through the page and frowned. "This is... exactly what Wilfred already sent me."
"Damn, did he just copy and paste the same thing here?" Zero chuckled, shaking his head. "What a lazy bastard."
Zion shot him a flat look. "Why are you laughing? I’m literally helping you solve your death."
"...Oh, right," Zero replied, awkwardly sobering up.
A silence followed before Zero’s voice grew quieter.
"To be honest, I don’t even know what to feel anymore. After being dead for two years... stuck in this ghost-like state... trapped inside this stupid system window..." he trailed off.
Zion opened his mouth, but the words didn’t come. "What the f—"
His sentence was cut short.
"Zion..." Zero’s voice cracked slightly. "Thank you. For doing this. For not forgetting me."
Zion’s eyes widened. "I-It’s nothing. From the start... I already made a promise."
He held up his fist toward the screen.
"I see..." Zero said softly.
He smiled faintly and bumped his pixelated fist against Zion’s through the glass barrier.
"...Anyway," Zion cleared his throat, "Look. Mary Lance has recorded videos of her fighting style. Let’s watch one."
He tapped on a video file.
The screen flickered.
The footage opened on a chaotic battlefield—flames devouring the background, smoke coiling into the air. A man in a sleek black suit stood calmly in the middle, surrounded by a group of masked thugs in tactical gear.
"Hm? She’s not fighting at all," Zion muttered. "Where is she?"
Then the camera panned.
From a high vantage point above the burning street, a shadow moved.
"There!" Zion pointed. "Is she... observing?"
"She’s analyzing that guy in the suit," Zero said, narrowing his eyes. "She hasn’t made a move yet... but that guy..."
He squinted at the man in the suit.
"...He looks familiar."
"Might just be the crappy video quality," Zion said, shrugging.
"No... Something about him feels off," Zero replied with a twitch in his expression.
"Anyway," Zion said, scrolling down the page, "Let’s check if she has any listed abilities."
He skimmed the details. "It says she’s a strategist. Specializes in battlefield control and predictive combat."
Zero nodded. "Makes sense. She waited, watched, calculated. If we make even one wrong move... she could ruin our entire plan."
"Should we skip her then?" Zion asked.
"Maybe," Zero said, thinking aloud. "Unless... we cut off her connections first."
Zion blinked. "That’s actually a solid idea. But what connections? She doesn’t seem to have much family info listed."
"It’s vague on purpose," Zero said. "Probably hidden for protection. But she does have younger siblings..."
"...We could use them," Zion finished, his voice dropping.
Zero smirked. "Exactly. She’s smart. That means she’s probably protecting the few things she has left. People like her don’t take risks unless it’s personal."
Zion leaned back, a cold glint in his eyes. "Then we make it personal."
"Anyways, is she gonna be our first official target?" Zion asked, eyes still on the screen.
Zero shook his head. "No. It’s still Raizel Varek."
Zion turned to him with an annoyed look. "You could’ve told me that earlier..."
Zero shrugged with a teasing smirk. "You were already so into it, figured I’d let you have your fun."
Zion rolled his eyes. "Tch. Whatever. So, what now? I guess you want me to dig into how Raizel uses his abilities, right? That Elemental Mystic Arts crap—especially his Fire techniques?"
"Exactly," Zero said, his tone more serious now. "He was always dangerous with his fire arts. If we don’t know how he moves, you’re gonna get burned before you even blink."
Zion leaned back, a cocky smirk forming. "Don’t worry about that."
He tapped his temple with one finger.
"I’ve already done my homework on Raizel."
