Chapter 1494: Survival in Desperation

The sudden arrival of reinforcements from the Magus Civilization did not bring relief to Sein and Yuri.

Their safety was far from guaranteed.

Sure enough, a surge of oppressive spatial forces rippled not far from Sein’s field of vision.

Feeling the terrifying pressure of the power contained within, and with the Faceless Mask’s analysis confirming it, Sein smiled bitterly.

“Guess it’s over for us.”

No way to resist, nowhere to run. They were as good as dead!

Sein had always been confident in his own strength. For even him to utter such words of despair meant this was certain death.

The newly arrived Rank Six mage on the battlefield seemed to have noticed Sein’s peril.

Instead of striking the federal fleet right away, he raised his magic rod high. An ice mirror began to form, crystallizing from pure law energy.

Even with his power, the Rank Six mage could not block the concentrated Black Ops’ attack on such short notice.

As the ice mirror took form, he shouted to the other two Rank Six powerhouses of the Magus Civilization, “Protect Rank Four Mage Sein at all costs!”

The other two were a Rank Six knight and a Rank Six alliance creature.

The knight, clad in heavy bronze armor, was the nearest to Sein.

Without a word, he charged toward Sein.

Whether Sein survived ultimately depended on them.

The other Rank Six alliance creature was farther away, or perhaps hesitant to close in while the federation’s Spatial Railgun was still active.

Even as it moved toward Sein’s position, its focus stayed on the scattered federal ships across the battlefield.

A chain of fiery explosions ripped through the federal fleet, painting the void in blood and flame.

Just as the Black Ops had wiped out the Magus Civilization forces at the logistics base, these Rank Six beings of the Magus Civilization were now delivering the same devastation in return.

Most of the ships were fragile, and even the Black Ops fleet’s defenses were not exceptional.

Only a handful of vessels among them could truly threaten Rank Six beings.

The Gallant Federation fleet’s end was already sealed, but Sein had no attention left to spare for what was happening around him.

A Spatial Railgun powerful enough to tear through the fabric of space itself suddenly fired at Sein.

Its firing rate was insanely fast, and it had lock-on capabilities. Even with all their strength, Sein and Yuri could not block it, let alone dodge it.

But Sein was not the kind to sit around and wait for death. In that instant, he refused to give in!

Frustration burned in him. He hated how powerless he felt.

As he fought with everything he had, he sensed the shackles binding his life level for so long finally began to crack—just barely.

Unfortunately, it was too late.

The beam from the space-tearing railgun shot straight toward him.

Before it could hit, it collided first with the ice mirror conjured by the Rank Six mage.

The law this mage commanded was truly unique. His ice mirror was not designed for defense, but for rebound and refraction.

Against the full power of Black Ops’ Spatial Railgun, the mirror stood no chance.

Almost the moment the beam struck, the ice mirror shattered into countless glimmering shards.

Even so, the mirror saved Sein’s life by shifting the beam’s trajectory ever so slightly.

A hair’s breadth could mean the difference between life and death!

Sein caught the opening through the Faceless Mask, grabbed Burning Flame Unit’s arm, and shot off diagonally.

The Rank Six knight, who was charging toward them, let out a thunderous roar.

The golden greatsword in his hand had already cleaved through countless federal ships in his path.

Even with Sein’s immense strength in his demonic form, it was nothing compared to the sheer might of that Rank Six knight.

The knight hurled a golden round shield straight toward Sein’s position. Whether it would work or not, it was their best shot.

Explosions and spatial distortions surrounded Sein and Yuri.

The shockwaves from the clashing Rank Six forces in the area tore through Sein’s body, wracking him with pain once more.

Yuri was in no better shape than Sein. But even through the chaos, they clung to each other, refusing to let go.

The violent shockwave sent Sein tumbling uncontrollably through the void. By sheer willpower, he managed to steady himself.

There was no time to take another Golden Apple Potion; he had to assess the situation around them.

The battlefield around him was in complete ruins.

The assault on the Gallant Federation’s Shadow Fleet involved more than just the three Rank Six entities.

Farther out, in the outer reaches of the battlefield, the Magus World legions were already mobilizing.

Their speed of response was astonishing, even to Sein.

But reinforcements did not mean safety.

Had Sein and Yuri not held out as long as they did, the Shadow Fleet might have escaped.

Now that they were trapped by the Magus Civilization’s forces, their hatred for the pair burned even more fiercely.

Even if they could not flee, they still had enough firepower to bring Sein down with them!

The wave of converging energy beams directed his way made that painfully clear.

Aside from the debris and lingering law energy scattered across the battlefield, the earlier blast from the Spatial Railgun had torn the surrounding space apart, leaving countless space-time rifts behind.

A golden round shield floated above Sein, not far away. The fact that he still had any strength left was probably thanks to it.

Those space-time rifts were most likely created when the Spatial Railgun’s blast collided with the shield.

Looking at the dense barrage of energy beams closing in, and determining that the Rank Six powerhouses and the Magus Civilization legions were still too far to intervene, Sein turned to Yuri.

“We can’t stay here. We need to move now.”

However, no answer came. Yuri had already lost consciousness from her severe injuries. Moments earlier, several beams had struck the Burning Flame’s cockpit.

The mecha itself, however, still retained some combat function. The Magic Cube embedded in its chest still pulsed faintly with energy, and it seemed to understand Sein’s intent.

Sein took a deep breath, scanning the space around them.

“We’ve got no choice but to go into one of the rifts. Let’s just hope it doesn’t lead to a dead end.”

Turning toward the Burning Flame Unit, he said, “Hold on tight!”
