Special Forces Medic-Chapter 703 - 671: I Can’t Save Him
The appearance of Flame Swallow instantly plunged the hospital into tension, but ignoring others' looks, Flame Swallow kicked open the office door, waking up the person pretending to be asleep. When the person saw that the visitor was an old woman, his face suddenly turned pale.
"You've come!"
Flame Swallow did not respond to his words but instead made space for Xiao Lin to enter. "If you have anything, speak to him directly." After suddenly saying this, the person moved aside, seemingly blending into the shadows without a trace of life.
"I need a diabetes specialist!" The director looked at the person in Xiao Lin's arms, not daring to refuse, and led him all the way to the operating room, arranging a room as well.
"Let me take a look at you!" The director came out after changing clothes and urged Xiao Lin upon seeing that he hadn't left yet.
"Are you a specialist in this field?" Xiao Lin knew he couldn't stay in the sterile room and asked the director with doubt.
"His vital signs are very weak. Was it you who stitched the wound on his neck?" The director carefully examined the wounds on the individual's body, observing any indices on the monitors, lifting his eyelid, noticing dilated pupils. "Take a blood sample for testing immediately." Instructing his assistant to handle the corresponding work, the director took Xiao Lin out of the operating room.
"I can't guarantee I can save him."
"The fever appeared two days ago. Now I suspect he might transition into other causes due to the infection." Xiao Lin didn't cause a scene for not being in the operating room; being a doctor, he naturally knew the rules. He just hoped the person could seize the last chance.
"I'll try my best."
The door to the operating room was closed, and Xiao Lin sat alone outside, stretching his legs, raising his head, and staring at the lights above.
"You're here!" Shou had been searching for a long time, unaware of where Flame Swallow would take Xiao Lin. He had searched all the nearby hospitals but hadn't seen Xiao Lin's trace. This private clinic was one of the few reputable hospitals nearby. Trying his luck, he found his way here, unexpectedly seeing Xiao Lin slumped on the walkway!
"Who's inside?" Looking at the operating room's tightly closed door, Shou was surprised why the boss wasn't inside.
"The director!" The voice carried fatigue.
Shou didn't ask further. Xiao Lin handing over Hong to someone else probably had his reasons. In fact, the director inside didn't keep them waiting for long.
"I'm very sorry!" The director shook his head at Xiao Lin. "Although you handled the wound well, diabetes itself poses coagulation issues. The wound, although stitched, never truly healed. The bacteria have already invaded his brain. I'm powerless."
After listening, Shou shot an untrusting glance at Xiao Lin. "Are you saying you can't save him?" Shou impulsively grabbed the director by the collar.
"Even if you take my life now, my answer remains the same. It's too late. He's already in the advanced stage, and surviving till now is already quite something." The director seemed to want to say more, but looking at the expressions of the two, he obediently closed his mouth.
"Thank you!" Xiao Lin was surprisingly calm. "Can I go in?"
"You can!" The director slowly moved past Xiao Lin, quickly escaping the operating room.
"Shou, go get a set of clean clothes here."
"Boss!" Shou looked at Xiao Lin with concern.
"Go! I'll wait for you here." Xiao Lin had already entered the operating room. Hong lay there, eyes tightly closed, and the monitor no longer showed any life signs; the heart had stopped beating.
He ran his fingers over the dried blood, feeling the remaining warmth on the skin. Xiao Lin stood there, gazing at Hong for a long time. He removed his clothes and covered Hong, unplugged the tubes from his body, and carried him out of the operating room.
He had never taken him to see the outside world, always carefully protecting him, hoping he could live a little longer. However, even with such cautiousness, he still couldn't keep the youngest among them safe.
Was it disappointment? Or guilt? Maybe both, but mostly anger.
When Shou returned with Hong's clothes, the operating room was already empty. Xiao Lin and Hong were nowhere to be found, leaving Shou upset, sitting in the hallway, while the Purple Scales brothers and Guo Guo stood at the door.
"I think I know where they went!" Guo Guo unexpectedly shouted.
"You better shut up!"
"Trust me, Hong once told me he wanted to go to Children's Paradise and ride the pirate ship. I think you all know this!"
Because of the careful protection, knowing he was not a normal person, Hong had lost the fun that should have belonged to him long ago.
They exchanged glances and headed in the same direction.
Hong's body was getting colder, a natural phenomenon. After a long while, the rigid body would soften, the blood on the neck had solidified, and the pale skin had an eye-catching streak of dark purple blood.
Xiao Lin's mind was blank, never imagining Wuzi would leave him this way. He always thought they couldn't be separated, so the so-called betrayal of Yi was unacceptable, but compared to Hong, the inability to accept that seemed much lighter, at least Yi was still alive.
He always knew Hong might leave him at any time, and Xiao Lin tried everything to extend Hong's life, just hoping he could live a bit longer. Who can blame him? Even if he killed those people, what difference would it make? Could it bring Hong back?
Sitting in the car, looking at the pirate ship ahead, Xiao Lin thought wryly. "I can't let you sail the pirate ship into the sky, but I can let you sit on it."
The Paradise under the night was long devoid of staff. Xiao Lin carried Hong down from the passenger seat, leaping onto the pirate ship with a few jumps, and sat in the last row.
In the darkness, a person as pale as paper leaned in another's embrace, sitting on the brightly colored prop, resembling a ghost.
"If we could start over, maybe I wouldn't stubbornly lock you in a cage, giving you candy, giving you chocolate, taking you out to play. Lin is so sorry to you!"
His voice choked in his throat, unable to utter the words he wanted, and powerless to feel regret! He was human, not a god, so he couldn't change what had already happened.
"Is it you calling me?" A hoarse voice came from the bow, and Xiao Lin felt the ship slightly sway, unsure if it was an illusion or something else.
"Is it you calling me?" The voice in the darkness rose like an ethereal whisper entering Xiao Lin's ears. He didn't hear it wrong; someone was indeed speaking, and the voice came from the bow. He didn't move, sitting in his original spot, his heart pounding. (To be continued. If you like this work, please vote for it at Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation.)
