Special Forces Medic-Chapter 788 - 755: The Chaotic Fish Tank
In the castle of the Xiao Family that resembles an imperial palace, he has many siblings. Those people all come from the same lineage—his father. However, there has never been a sense of closeness or intimacy like the one he has with Mu Rongyun now. Even though they all share their father's blood, they each have their own distinct appearances. Those who share half a blood relation with him have led lives filled with intrigue and scheming, all under the influence of interests since childhood, regardless of whether their mother was present or not, they were all taught in the same way.
Since childhood, his recognized mother was a very beautiful woman. His grandfather made him call her "Mom," and he thought she was his mom. However, when he grew up and things became clear, he barely ever called her "Mom" anymore. After all, not every woman can be called "Mom." His grandfather's initial intention seemed like he was manipulating a chess piece because that woman couldn't bear children, because that woman was the product of a political marriage, so he made him call her "Mom."
"Mom..."
"Hm?" Mu Rongyun, not expecting Xiao Lin to speak, followed the sound from his confusion and looked over at him.
"What kind of person is Mom?" Xiao Lin found it quite difficult to utter those two words. How long had it been since he heard himself call someone "Mom"?
Listening to Xiao Lin's deep breathing, Mu Rongyun moved his lips in the stillness. Mom? He was even less clear on this term than Xiao Lin. Stretching out his hand toward the darkness, unable to see his fingers in the dark room, he said, "I... I've never seen this person!"
He should have seen her when he was very young, from the moment he entered this world. The first person he saw when he opened his eyes was Mom. Other than that, he has no memories to rely on. For a newborn, everything is novel, even if they've seen someone, the images in their mind can fade away. But for some reason, Mu Rongyun was a special child, as everything that remained in his eyes wouldn't be forgotten with the passage of time.
"Is that so?" Xiao Lin smiled somewhat dazzlingly. "Is she still alive?"
"Maybe, she's alive."
"We are children of the same parents, but why are there such differences? You said that the Fourth Lord is not a replica person, is he Mu Rongyun?" Xiao Lin's voice sounded exceptionally lonely in the quiet. "Why did Father separate us, why did Mom disappear? What is the truth behind all this?"
"Someone's coming!" Mu Rongyun showed a hint of panic at Xiao Lin's questioning. He didn't know how to explain such a process. "Instead of pondering these, it's better to think about how to get the antidote from the Fourth Lord. I won't help you, and if necessary, I would even take some blood from you to exchange for the antidote."
Someone indeed came; it wasn't Mu Rongyun's excuse to brush Xiao Lin off. After the words fell, his ears had already heard some murmuring steps from the stairs. Xiao Lin darted to the door, hiding to the side with his body concealed by the wall.
The footsteps passed by the door, Xiao Lin pressed his ear to the corner of the wall. The person outside stopped for a moment in front of the door, then continued upward, not stopping until they stepped onto the flat surface and ascended to a higher floor. Mu Rongyun wasn't as nervous as Xiao Lin, and his footsteps on the floor were as light as if they had cushions of flesh.
Xiao Lin shook his head toward him, gesturing for him not to make a sound. He himself remained pressed against the wall, and Mu Rongyun cooperatively moved to the other side. Subsequently, there were no longer any footsteps outside the door, and the security door didn't have any peephole installed, so they could only identify the situation outside through sound.
"Someone's outside!" Xiao Lin mouthed the fact of someone being at the door to Mu Rongyun.
Holding their breath, a hand on the doorknob sensed the touch of someone outside trying to open the door. The two of them left, slipping to the side like phantoms, hiding their traces while seeking a place to hide.
The door was pushed open from outside, and a silhouette flashed in from outside. However, they didn't enter the inner room directly; instead, they stood at the door, bent over to remove the shoes from their feet. After placing them at the entrance, they gently closed the door and one hand fumbled on the wall for the light switch.
With a clicking sound, the dark room was instantly illuminated. Standing at the door was a woman, a very refined woman. Her beautiful eyes gazed at the coil that could be seen immediately upon entering the door. She tiptoed over to the coil, then crouched down, looked around a few times, stood up, and tiptoed into it. After walking back and forth twice, she took a pair of special socks from her bag, put them on, and then stepped on the ground with ease.
She placed her bag on the cabinet by the door, set the keys in a small dish beside the bag, hung the clothes she took off on the rack, and picked up a dry cloth from the kitchen to start cleaning all the furniture.
She didn't turn on any electrical appliances. After completing all the cleaning tasks, she threw the dirty ashtray into the trash bag, then took out an identical ashtray from her bag and placed it in the same spot, even meticulously wiping away the surrounding ash. She didn't think it was odd that ash suddenly appeared in the room; it seemed as if it was meant to be there all along.
Hidden in the shadows, Xiao Lin glanced at Mu Rongyun who was beside him on the right. The latter seemed to show a hint of curiosity. The woman appeared to be very frugal with electricity; she would leave a light on wherever she went, but the rooms not in use remained in darkness. What a strange woman.
She gathered the clothes from the balcony and tossed them onto the bed. She scooped a fish out of the bathtub and placed it in a bowl already covered in dust, standing silently. The fish, deprived of water, flopped breathlessly in the bowl. At this moment, the woman finally showed a hint of expression, a kind of sickly look that even to someone like Mu Rongyun or Xiao Lin seemed horrifying.
Under Ling Xiu's pure demeanor, the cruelty and indifference towards death were fully portrayed on the backlit balcony in a disharmonious yet surreal manner. The fish ceased its struggle and stopped breathing. The woman picked up the bowl, poured the fish back into the tub, where its sunken corpse was nudged by a slightly bigger fish, floating to the center. Yet, the living fish showed no interest, swimming away after repeating the action.
Xiao Lin thought that this was the end, but the woman actually took out a jar from her handbag. Inside, swimming in clean water was a fry of an unknown species, measuring around fifteen centimeters long, with its entire body glowing fluorescent. Perhaps due to the contrast between light and darkness, its fluorescent color was particularly striking.
As the jar floated at the surface of the fish tank, the strange fish darted straight to the bottom of the tank, as if it had been confined for too long and was now reveling in its newfound freedom.
Giggling, the woman watched, enchanted by the fish in the tank. Then, she unhesitatingly bit her own finger, and only released it when bright red blood flowed from her fingertip.
The blood dripped into the fish tank, gradually muddying the already unclear water.
A ripple spread through the water, the fish that just entered the tank seemed to come back to life, stirring and thrilling the peaceful fish group, creating an uproar. The blend of blood and water couldn't bring luck to the beautiful hue of the tank's fish; instead, misfortune descended swiftly.
The fish opened its mouth, revealing sharp teeth; wherever it went, fragments were left behind. The chewed bodies, still attached to fibres, sank to the bottom of the tank.
Time seemed to stand still at this moment, with all the woman's attention focused on the chaos being stirred up.
Gradually, the ripples in the fish tank calmed down, and the silver-glowing creature sank to the bottom. The woman moved slightly, waiting for the debris in the tank to settle. Once the surface was clear, revealing a bit of oil sheen, she giggled again, thoroughly enjoying the recent scene with her fingers intertwined in excitement.
Suddenly she sighed and returned to the room, taking out several pieces of clothing from the wardrobe and pulling underwear and socks from the drawer. She walked into the bathroom and threw these items into the washing machine, then tidily folded the clothes that had just been collected, placing them where they belonged. She changed the sheets and bedclothes, spread out new ones, and lay down on the sheets. After rolling around on them, she got off, re-spread them neatly, and sat on the sofa, waiting for the clothes in the washing machine to be washed.
Her eccentric actions made it hard to imagine what mindset she had while doing these things. Sitting alone on the sofa, with the remote right at hand, she had no desire to turn on the TV but simply stared at her reflection on the TV screen, her own face.
Once again came a giggling sound. Although the lights were on, the sudden sound in the overly quiet room was unnerving.
Xiao Lin and Mu Rongyun agreed on one thing: this woman absolutely had some kind of mental issue, she wasn't normal.
Emerging from hiding, Xiao Lin stood behind the woman, making no attempt to startle her. Through the reflection in the TV, the woman could likely see the silhouette behind her, but the sudden appearance in the TV screen seemed to have little impact on her. She continued to giggle at her reflection.
Suddenly, the sound of a beep from the washing machine came from the bathroom, prompting the woman to stand and walk to the bathroom, retrieve the clothes, and return to the room.
The light remained on, Xiao Lin stood behind the sofa only five or six steps away from the woman. The woman emerging from the bathroom stood at the doorway; she must have seen Xiao Lin. Eyes meeting, yet the one who became nervous was Xiao Lin. (To be continued. If you enjoyed this work, feel free to visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendation tickets or monthly tickets.
