Special Forces Medic-Chapter 837 - 810: Joint Trial
Beautiful long legs were draped over a naked man's abdomen, occasionally rubbing against his sensitive areas, causing soft groans. The man sat up from the bed, appearing particularly agitated and uneasy.
"What's the matter with you? You've seemed distracted all night." The woman turned over and lit a cigarette, not bothering to comment on the man's lack of interest, though she seemed like an unfed cat. "Are you worried about matters over there?" The woman's words prompted the man to nod; it's been several hours now—dealing with a woman who isn't particularly capable seems to be taking too long.
"It's been over four hours now. Haven't you received any news from over there?" He took the cigarette from the woman's fingers and puffed a few times.
"There shouldn't be any issues. So many people can't handle one woman? You're just worrying all the time without reason."
"Hopefully, that's the case."
The woman shrugged, the clock on the wall showed ten o'clock—it's been a while. She didn't seem particularly anxious in front of the man. She picked up clothes from the floor, seized a phone without the man's attention, and entered the bathroom. The number she dialed was consistently unreachable; this anomaly was unusual. Could something really have happened?
"Yao Zheng, I think I..." The woman emerged from the bathroom, finding the bed empty. "Yao Zheng?" She called out a few more times without receiving any response, then the phone rang. "Where did you go?"
"Stop talking and quickly leave that place; find somewhere to hide!" Yao Zheng's voice sounded anxious and irritable, clearly indicating an incident.
"You're outside, where are you headed?" The woman began to dress, balancing the phone on her shoulder quickly, finishing her attire in no time.
"Hua Muyun suddenly called for an urgent meeting; I suspect something's happened. Wait for my message near Fourth Master." Yao Zheng quickly hung up the phone. Secretary Luo suddenly called to go to the district government. Luckily, he wasn't in the office today but came to Ye Zi's place. He exhaled a breath, unable to suppress the irritation that persisted in his heart.
The trip typically taking over ten minutes stretched to half an hour as he reached the district government building. The gate guard had already opened the door. Hua Muyun's car was parked in front of the building.
"Who else is upstairs?" Yao Zheng stopped in front of the guard room.
"Report to the District Chief, there are several people."
Yao Zheng parked directly in the garage, contemplating the worst-case scenario. Ji Weihua was easily caught, without any information being revealed. Besides Hua Muyun, who else came?
As the elevator ascended, Yao Zheng tried to breathe deeply, calming his heart before knocking on the door and entering.
In the meeting room, there were faces both familiar and unfamiliar to him, mostly familiar. Hua Muyun sat at the head seat, with Wang Zhanting to his right second seat, and an unfamiliar face opposite Wang Zhanting. Seats on both sides of Hua Muyun were vacant; Xia Family members weren't present. Secretary Luo stood dedicatedly behind Hua Muyun.
The meeting room's atmosphere was quite oppressive, almost suffocating. No one spoke or greeted Yao Zheng as he appeared. After briefly exchanging glances, heads turned away, creating an awkward scene. Yao Zheng sought a suitable seat, walked forward, then retreated to sit beside Wang Zhanting.
"Secretary Hua." Hua Muyun, expression grave, glanced at him but remained silent. "That car encountered trouble en route, hence the delay."
"Secretary Hua, I'm feeling unwell. Shouldn't I..." Wang Zhanting was momentarily stunned as Yao Zheng came in. Being summoned for a meeting at this late hour irritated him, now seeing Yao Zheng present, his heart sank halfway.
"What's the rush? Endure the discomfort." Hua Muyun released a bland statement, exerting emotional pressure over if everyone present. "Yao Zheng, I need to confirm something here with you."
"Secretary Hua, what matter is so important that it warrants a late-night meeting?"
"As national leaders, even if your mother died, you must be ready at any call, especially in the middle of the night." Hua Muyun snorted coldly. His current attitude starkly contrasted his previous one. The irritation within Yao Zheng peaked; the two seats beside Hua Muyun were empty not by chance, but because two people hadn't arrived. He presumed who they were while smiling.
"Yes, Secretary Hua's teachings are apt—it's my failure, Yao Zheng didn't do well enough."
"Are you aware of Minister Tang from the City Propaganda Department?" Wang Zhanting couldn't help but contract his pupils. He had completely forgotten about this matter, and he has no idea where the woman is now, as she seems to have disappeared with another person, and that mental hospital has been sealed off. He thought the incident had quietly subsided, but unexpectedly Hua Muyun raised it at this moment.
Yao Zheng shook his head. "What's wrong with Minister Tang?"
"Minister Wang, why don't you tell District Chief Yao what happened?" Hua Muyun passed the question over to Wang Zhanting, while Secretary Luo added water to his cup, whispered a few words in his ear, and then exited the room.
"Uh, it's like this." Wang Zhanting adjusted his posture from sitting too long. "Previously, there was an assassination attempt on a high-ranking official within the City Committee. Upon investigation, it was found that Minister Tang had been affected by some drug, causing him to act in an incomprehensible way, and this drug flowed out from your North District." Wang Zhanting tried to phrase things gently to avoid embarrassment for everyone.
"Something like that happened? I'm not aware."
"Minister Wang, you haven't fully explained, have you?" The speaker was an unfamiliar man sitting across from Wang Zhanting, but anyone called here at midnight is not just anybody.
"Director Wu, what do you mean by that?" Wang Zhanting was respectful toward Hua Muyun but had no courtesy for someone one rank below him. "Do you think there's a problem with what I said?"
"Minister Wang's presentation is correct, but during our City Committee investigation, this particular clue was found—the person who orchestrated Minister Tang's actions was one of our high-ranking officials. Minister Tang has regained consciousness after being rescued from the mental hospital and has testified against this official. Minister Wang, you should be very clear about this, right?"
"Oh, you're referring to that matter, I almost forgot. This high-ranking official has been brought to justice, and it's confirmed that someone from your side sold the drugs to him. District Chief Yao, as the head of a district, are you completely unaware of this?" Wang Zhanting cleverly shifted the focus to Yao Zheng; wasn't this meeting just a denunciation assembly? Stay wise and self-protective, stomp down when necessary.
"Well..." Yao Zheng immediately understood what this man was trying to do—a clever fox wanting to kick someone when they're down. "It's me as District Chief who didn't do my job properly, letting my subordinates run loose, not knowing they were engaging in these dealings. I had asked Han Fei about the underground factories issue earlier."
"So, District Chief Yao wasn't completely unaware; he already knew about the illegal drugs before Han Fei was executed by Dragon Soul?" Wu Mian interrupted, breaking Yao Zheng's words.
"Sort of knew, I also instructed Han Fei to handle this matter."
"Haha, what a joke." Wu Mian interrupted Yao Zheng just after he spoke a word, looking at him resentfully. "Trading illegal drugs is strictly prohibited across China. What authority does a small district chief like you have to let your police chief handle it? Knowing it's illegal, yet failing to arrest and report immediately, instead sheltering subordinates—does it mean District Chief Yao is involved in this matter, thus letting his subordinates act so recklessly?"
"Who are you to spew such nonsense and levy accusations lightly?" Yao Zheng stood up suddenly from his chair, addressing Hua Muyun. "Secretary Hua, I cannot let anyone insult my integrity. My conduct is upright; if I haven't done it, I haven't done it. Han Fei is my subordinate; I instructed him to completely end the illegal drug matter, arrest all involved, and turn himself in. However, I didn't expect that halfway through the task, he would be executed. What can I do about it? Dragon Soul always operates independently..."
"Yao Zheng, speak without personal feelings, and don't hastily judge any person or department. Dragon Soul indeed has that authority, but it's been genuinely used only a few times over the years. The issue with Han Fei ends here. What I now want to know is, do you have any relation to this matter?" Hua Muyun fixated on Yao Zheng, whose grayish hair looked extremely solemn and dignified at this moment.
"What is Secretary Hua asking about?"
"All the murder cases and terror incidents in the North District originated from illegal drugs, District Chief Yao. You are the district chief of the North District; does the underground pipeline trade have any connection to you?"
"I..."
Bang! The meeting room door was pushed open, and a man even more attractive than a woman walked in, followed by another man with a cold expression and silent demeanor.
"Sorry, the voice was a bit loud; I didn't control my strength well." Hua Qingyi apologized immediately upon hearing the door slam against the wall upon entering, and greeted those inside, while Xiao Lin carefully closed the door.
Hua Qingyi sat to Hua Muyun's left, while Xiao Lin naturally sat to his right. "Why are you only arriving now? Didn't you say it would be sorted out in an hour?" Hua Muyun smiled as he grasped Xiao Lin's hand, rubbing it in his palm, while Hua Qingyi shot a jealous look at Xiao Lin; his old man favored Xiao Lin far more than him—so infuriating.
"Handled a police chief down at the docks; quite a pity." Xiao Lin didn't shy away from revealing his whereabouts, shaking his head in regret. (To be continued.
