Special Forces Medic-Chapter 849 - 822: Execution on the Spot
Guang Lingyi sat in the main judge's seat, even though the person sitting next to him was the current Party Secretary of Yanjing, Hua Muyun, he still sat there with unwavering authority.
The interrogation process was no longer important. After filtering the questions in a formal manner, the answers still did not conform to justice. Yao Zheng was adamantly demanding evidence, his denial of the charges seemed very childish and hypocritical in Guang Lingyi's eyes. The law emphasizes eyewitness and physical evidence, yet coincidentally the person who could testify had turned into a silent corpse overnight, this coincidence inevitably made him think of the term "murder to silence".
"Yao Zheng! Ji Weihua, Xie Tianfang, Yu Shuang, your three subordinates were assassinated at the Sharp Sword Team yesterday, weren't they by your orders?" Guang Lingyi avoided those questions and instead inquired about this matter.
"Prosecutor, one needs to have evidence when speaking, which eye of yours saw me commit murder? If you have evidence proving it was me, I absolutely will not deny it." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"You want evidence, right?" Guang Lingyi ordered someone to play a video. "Yao Zheng, please explain why your car and your men appeared at the gates of the Li Jian Team late at night?"
Yao Zheng glanced at the people on the screen, it was indeed his car, and even his side profile was captured so clearly, there was no way to deny it. In a courtroom, the mere mention of Guang Lingyi would make it known that he was a notoriously difficult prosecutor, a tough character with integrity. "The person in the footage is you, right?"
"That's right, it's me." Yao Zheng nodded, then shook his head. "What does this prove? That I have been to the Sharp Sword Team?"
"How do you explain appearing there in the middle of the night, coinciding with the death of three key witnesses inside? I want to hear what you have to say, Yao Zheng."
"I indeed wanted to meet my three subordinates, to understand why they would take the nation's salary and do such heinous things, it pains me." Yao Zheng covered his face with his hand, his grief did not seem fake. "However, when I drove there, I realized it was already late at night, I thought it inappropriate to disturb them at that hour, so I didn't linger and left. I was completely unaware they'd be killed, I only found out from my secretary in the morning about a fast courier delivery that they had been murdered, I deeply regret, if I went inside back then maybe I could have saved their lives."
"Why would your entry ensure their survival, rather than you meeting the same fate?"
Guang Lingyi's retort left Yao Zheng momentarily stunned, he hadn't expected the prosecutor to think so differently, but one couldn't say his logic was faulty.
"I've always heard there's a famous talkative prosecutor in Yanjing, today it truly broadens my perspective." Yao Zheng laughed loudly twice. "If you want to interrogate me, then I can tell you, there's no way you'll get a word out of me, unless Hua Muyun himself comes to question me." After speaking, Yao Zheng glanced at the person beside Guang Lingyi, he really just closed his mouth and said nothing more.
Guang Lingyi wanted to lose his temper but restrained himself, as long as Hua Muyun hadn't spoken to make a decision, he remained the chief examiner of this interrogation. "District Chief Yao, I hope you understand one thing, whether you admit it or not, it doesn't affect the factual basis of the crimes you've committed. You say I lack evidence to accuse you, I think you've misunderstood something, your subordinates, and your women are not as loyal as you think, including your legitimate wife."
"Guang Lingyi, do you think saying this will make me believe you? As a policeman, I know the tricks, do you think I would believe you?" Yao Zheng's rebuttal was met with Guang Lingyi's derisive laugh.
"Secretary Hua, I think that's enough for today, District Chief Yao's current state of mind isn't suitable for me to continue the interrogation." Guang Lingyi collected the items on the desk, apologized to Secretary Hua twice, and then walked out, followed by two interns who had just graduated from school and were about the same age as Guang Lingyi.
"Secretary Hua!" Yao Zheng noticed Hua Muyun hadn't moved, so he tentatively called out.
"Yao Zheng, what exactly do you want to say by seeing me alone?"
"If I said this wasn't my intention, would you believe me?" Yao Zheng continued tentatively.
"Whether it was your intention or not, it makes little difference if you were the one who did it." Hua Muyun sounded a bit sympathetic towards the man before him. Sometimes being too smart can lead to trouble. "Yao Zheng, when you first arrived in the North District, I was very optimistic about you, you're a politician with brains, but unfortunately, your ambition is too big, the bigger the tree, the more it catches the wind. You set up such a big dragon in the district government building, what were you trying to achieve? It's not me who wants to deal with you, but those above are unhappy with you, with a good attitude, you might get a reprieved death sentence, but if you keep hanging on like this, they can easily come up with a charge to sentence you to death."
"Secretary Hua, I too have been framed." As Yao Zheng spoke, his eyes suddenly turned red, he no longer had the usual bravado. "I was blinded by a woman, that's why I listened to her and did these things, I couldn't stop even when I realized."
"Yao Zheng, give you a dignified death. Just confess who that woman is."
"Secretary Hua, I don't want to die!"
"I'm afraid you have no choice but to die, otherwise it would be hard to appease everyone."
Yao Zheng licked his lips dryly, not wanting to die, he really didn't want to die. "Secretary Hua, I would surrender all my assets to the state, just spare my life."
"Heh!" Seemingly expecting Yao Zheng to say these words, Hua Muyun stood up from his chair, without saying anything, just as he reached the door, he turned back to glance at Yao Zheng and nodded towards Guang Lingyi who had been waiting outside the door. "No need to save, announce the final verdict, death, execution immediately, no need to report."
"Yes!" When Hua Muyun passed him, Guang Lingyi heard a faint sigh, this old secretary still held a little bit of sentiment for Yao Zheng, regardless of the things he said, at least during his term, things were calm.
Fortune always runs out, and Yao Zheng's luck had always been good, but unfortunately, the feng shui turned against him, encountering two difficult people.
Hua Muyun exhaled a breath into the air; if in the end, he hadn't continued to use benefits as temptation, he would have been willing to send him for reform labor in the frontier, sadly the result of obstinate ignorance just forced himself to the brink of death.
"Where have those two troublemakers gone?" Hua Muyun dialed Secretary Luo from Director Wu's office at the City Police Department. The two people who were supposed to be there still hadn't shown up, today was supposed to be the final report summary, and several city leaders were still waiting. "What? They've been missing since last night?" Whatever Secretary Luo said on the other end, Hua Muyun jumped to his feet in a rage, and the others followed suit. "Go investigate, immediately send people to investigate, even if you have to turn the entire North District upside down, find those two troublemakers and bring them to me at my seat."
The phone was tossed aside, Hua Muyun propped himself on the table with one hand, feeling like he was about to explode in anger. Wu Mian waved his hand to the leaders of the surrounding departments, indicating they should leave for now, it seemed today's meeting couldn't be held.
"Secretary Hua, what happened to you?" After everyone had left, Wu Mian poured him a cup of tea and placed it in front of him. "Though my skills are no match for Secretary Luo, just make do with this bagged tea here!"
"Lao Wu, spare me this pretense, who doesn't know your bagged tea is homemade." Realizing his loss of composure, as everyone had left, Hua Muyun did not prepare to say any polite words to Wu Mian; he carried the teacup and sat down on the couch, crossing his legs, and closed his eyes to rest.
Wu Mian, seeing him like this, did not disturb him either, and returned to his desk to summarize the case in the North District on the computer. Hua Muyun always handled matters straightforwardly; Yao Zheng was just secretly executed like this. Ah, his basement had yet another corpse, his jail was almost being dyed red with blood, haha!
"Lao Wu, did you notify Yao Zheng's family?" After calming his tumultuous mood, Hua Muyun sipped the strong tea.
"I handled the formalities early in the morning and brought an organ donation consent form, requesting we take all usable organs from Yao Zheng." Thinking of this, Wu Mian couldn't help but chuckle. "Would you call it doing a good deed?"
"I believe his wife deeply resented him. There's an old Chinese saying about leaving the body intact for a good rebirth, this woman didn't even think about letting Yao Zheng reincarnate, not sending him to the eighteenth level of hell could be considered a mercy."
"Secretary Hua, feeling better now? Then, let's talk about what happened."
"I'm worried those two guys might cause trouble again, Yao Zheng's just been dealt with, and now they're gone, I hoped they would quiet down for a couple of days, but they haven't left me even a moment to catch my breath, damn it!" Mentioning those two individuals made Hua Muyun's previously suppressed anger flare up again.
Wu Mian, upon hearing the last two words, finally couldn't help but laugh out loud, even under Hua Muyun's warning glare, it was hard to contain. "S-sorry, Secretary Hua, it's just been so long since I heard you curse."
"Director Wu, I see you've been quite idle recently, how about taking a trip to Xinjiang? Someone reported that the security there hasn't been great lately!" Hua Muyun snorted coldly, which was enough to snuff out Wu Mian's indulgent laughter.
"Why do I feel like this is using public office to avenge private wrongs, that doesn't seem like your style, old secretary!" The joke was almost over, Wu Mian contained himself as he typed the last segment onto the keyboard, then moved from behind his desk. (To be continued.
