Spoiled by the CEO after amnesia!-Chapter 584 - 582
Su Yan, having received his instructions just now, immediately understood. She slipped her arm out from the man’s embrace and clapped her hands, summoning a servant who had been prepared nearby.
From the servant’s tray, Su Yan took a cup filled with a reddish-yellow drink that looked like a mix of several kinds of alcohol. She politely offered it to Xue Jingchuan, "Mr. Xue."
Huo Zhenyang elegantly raised his glass of red wine, "As an old friend, it has been years since we’ve seen each other. Downing one glass shouldn’t be too hard for you."
Xue Jingchuan glanced at the drink in his hand and, even before it got close to his nose, smelled the pungent alcohol. He knew, of course, that this cocktail had a high alcohol content.
Having struggled in the entertainment industry for so many years, whether before he became famous, after he had gained popularity, or even now at his zenith, he had attended countless banquets and hardened his tolerance for alcohol. But even with a decent capacity for drink, he surmised this one would be quite challenging.
He was about to go on stage to answer the journalists’ questions.
Xue Jingchuan’s eyelids twitched but he did not take the strong liquor from Su Yan’s hand. He responded flawlessly polite, "Let’s find a place to have a good catch-up after the banquet ends. Then, I’ll have no problem toasting Mr. Huo with ten or eight cups."
Huo Zhenyang’s lips curled slightly, as if joking, yet there was a bone-chilling coolness in his tone, "Jingchuan, having become a superstar, you really have changed your style from a few years ago. I remember back in G City, you would follow me around like those young masters, and I couldn’t even shoo you away if I tried."
Xue Jingchuan understood that Huo Zhenyang was mocking his rise, reminding him not to forget his roots.
He had debuted from a civilian singing competition, without any significant background, and had to keep networking among the upper class in the circle to vie for more on-screen opportunities after entering the industry.
It is a path every artist must walk, and Xue Jingchuan was no exception.
The Huo Group was an empire in southern China’s business circle and had certainly been one of his targets.
The relationship between him and the young Huo was more like that of a sovereign and subject rather than friends.
His current achievements didn’t rely solely on the Huo Family, but it was undeniable that during his rise, he had benefited from the Huo Group, as endorsements and advertisements for several major brands under the Huo banner had steadily increased his domestic fame.
Jiayi couldn’t help but flicker her eyelashes, glancing at Xue Jingchuan.
With Xue Jingchuan’s status now adored by millions, if it wasn’t for herself, he would have had no need to tolerate this insult from Huo Zhenyang.
Even if Xue Jingchuan had starred in advertisements or in films invested by the Huo Family, that was the fruit of his labor.
Xue Jingchuan might have used the Huo Group to carve a path in the entertainment industry, but the Huo Group chose Xue Jingchuan because they valued his popularity, didn’t they?
It was a mutual agreement; why should Xue Jingchuan be looked down upon?
Jiayi couldn’t help but look towards Huo Zhenyang, her pretty eyes unable to hide her resentment.
Yet that man simply looked pleased as punch.
Xue Jingchuan had already slipped past Su Yan’s offered glass, making a smooth arc in the air as he prepared to cheerfully toast, "Then I’ll go ahead and drink this in respect." He was about to drink it when someone grabbed his wrist.
Jiayi caught hold of Xue Jingchuan and took the drink from his hand, "Jingchuan, you have to go on stage soon to face the journalists. Let me drink this one for you."
Then she calmly said to the man in front, "I think Mr. Huo would be understanding, wouldn’t he?"
This man, he was simply looking to give Xue Jingchuan a hard time.
Although her own alcohol tolerance was quite low, she was very familiar with drinks.
The moment Su Yan had handed her the glass, and the smell of the alcohol wafted around, she knew it was a cocktail mixed with several strong spirits. It had a powerful kick; one sip would go straight to the head within ten minutes, maybe half an hour at most.
Even with Xue Jingchuan’s high tolerance, he would surely make a fool of himself in front of the media when he got on stage later.
Before Xue Jingchuan could stop her, Jiayi had already raised her glass, held her breath, and drank it all in one gulp. Then she turned the glass upside down and placed it back on the servant’s tray, "There, is that satisfactory?"
Huo Zhenyang’s face fell, his thin lips growing increasingly cool.
He knew the little woman’s tolerance for alcohol. Usually, she would try to avoid drinking situations at all costs, but now she had taken the initiative to drink a whole cup of strong liquor for Xue Jingchuan.
Jiayi couldn’t afford to look at Huo Zhenyang’s expression any longer. The moment the alcohol went down her throat, she felt dizzy and quickly supported Xue Jingchuan again.
Xue Jingchuan’s face betrayed a hint of surprise as he said, "The drink’s been taken, so let’s leave." He didn’t wait for Huo Zhenyang to respond and left with Jiayi on his arm.
Jiayi felt her face heating up as if it was about to explode. Even though the alcohol hadn’t fully hit her yet, her legs were already trembling.
Xue Jingchuan also noticed that she was slightly tipsy and helped her to a sofa in the banquet hall. He snapped his fingers, signaling a servant to go buy some fast-acting sobering medicine.
While waiting for the sobering medicine, Jiayi was groggy. The bright lights from the crystal chandeliers on the ceiling of the banquet hall made it difficult to keep her eyes open.
In her semi-conscious state, half-drunk and half-awake, she murmured, "Jingchuan."
"Still not feeling well? The waiter will be back soon."
Jiayi shook her head, hesitated for a moment, and said, "I’ve been thinking, I’d rather explain it to the reporters. I’ll tell them we’re not a couple. If he hears it, he’ll feel better, and he won’t hold any grudge against you."
There was no need for her matter with him to involve a third person, especially one who had been kind to her.
Her view was simple and typical; she would treat well those who treated her well.
The recent event with the drink had made her realize how glorious Xue Jingchuan’s life was now, and how challenging the journey here had been.
If Xue Jingchuan really locked horns with Huo Zhenyang because of her, she couldn’t guarantee that Huo Zhenyang wouldn’t find a way to provoke or undermine Xue Jingchuan.
That man was to take the position of the mayor of Yunling City soon. With his conduct and actions setting an example for many, he was restricted in many ways and perhaps couldn’t be as unrestrained as he used to be.
But as long as he harbored the intention to hit out at Xue Jingchuan, there would still be many ways to obstruct his performing arts career.
As her voice trailed off, Xue Jingchuan leaned in and laughed softly, "You drank a cup of alcohol, and now you’re backing down again?"
The intimate moment between the two was caught by the reporters nearby who started to buzz among themselves:
"There’s no doubt, that Ms. Chu is definitely Xue Jingchuan’s secret girlfriend."
"Isn’t that obvious? Xue Jingchuan can have any top stylist by his side. Why would he specifically pick her, a newcomer to the Sea Island Storm Crew, to be his personal assistant? It’s as if he’s acknowledging it in front of the media. Forget the personal stylist, I think she’s the personal girlfriend."
"If these two aren’t together, I’ll chop off my head and give it to you as a chair!"
...
The rustling voices were neither too loud nor too soft, just enough to reach the ears of the nearby man.
Huo Zhenyang’s wine glass twitched slightly in his fingers. He turned his tall frame, his eyes as sharp as electricity through the darkness, occasionally sparking. He stepped onto the balcony next to the floor-to-ceiling window, away from the noisy crowd, stared into the deep night outside, his eyes showing neither anger nor joy.
Su Yan stood at the entrance of the balcony, fixating on his silhouette, glowing and radiant. Yet at this moment, she seemed lost in thought and despondent.
