SSS Awakening: All My Clones Have Divine Bloodlines!-Chapter 39: Unbending
Luna found herself rooted to the spot, as if an enormous weight had fallen onto her, so heavy she couldn’t move a single muscle in her body.
’Pathetic... I’m still this weak.’
That was the only thought in her mind as a rage different from the vengeance she had felt before began rising in her chest, and with it, her blood.
Even at her current level, she could still be crushed like a mere insect? She refused to accept it.
She wouldn’t allow it. If she had to die, she would do so on her own terms.
She forced the mana in her body to circulate violently, trying to push back against the pressure crushing her. She failed, but she didn’t stop. She tried again, and again, forcing her mana core beyond the limits of her current level, to the point where it began to crack under the strain.
What she was doing wasn’t much different from trying to compress something that had already been compressed to its absolute limit. At that point, something had to give, either the pressure itself, or the container holding it. And if the latter broke, it would explode just to escape the force crushing it.
She was failing to push back, which meant she was sliding toward the second outcome, not painless by any measure, and potentially lethal for an awakened.
But that principle didn’t fully apply to someone like Luna. Not because of her strange nature, but because of her bloodline, which was now beginning to awaken, albeit forcibly.
The blood in her body began to overheat, sending every pain receptor into overdrive. Yet she endured, teeth clenched, her mind fixated on the same thing she hated above all else,
Helplessness.
Evan had already warned her that something like this might happen, and that if it did, the two of them needed to run. She had agreed to it in the moment, but now that she was actually here, in exactly that situation, the idea of running was sitting far worse with her than she had expected.
That, combined with the helplessness she was feeling, triggered something within her.
A strange aura began to emanate from her body.
At first it was a faint, pale yellow, subtle, yet carrying immense power. But soon, it began to shift, darkening into a deeper, violet hue.
At the same time, thin cracks appeared near the edges of her eyes, while her irises began to glow with an intense violet light. Her pupils burned crimson, narrowing and elongating once more, giving her gaze something no longer human, something closer to a cold-blooded predator.
And the moment that happened...
And the moment that happened, the pressure being imposed on her began to be pushed back. She could finally move her body, if only slightly.
Straining again and again, she forced herself to turn, her gaze locking onto an elderly figure standing behind her.
He stood straight-backed, dressed in black robes trimmed with silver, watching her with an expression of amused surprise.
"Oh? Interesting. I never expected to encounter such a rare talent in a place like this," he said, his voice strangely clear for someone of his apparent age.
Luna didn’t reply. Instead, her gaze shifted, scanning the surroundings as if searching for someone.
Seeing that, the old man chuckled.
"I assume you’re looking for your companion, aren’t you? Don’t bother. I’ve already taken care of him."
He spoke as if he were talking about something insignificant.
Those words seemed to ignite something in her. Her eyes burned brighter.
Taken care of him? Of that person? That shouldn’t be possible. It couldn’t be.
That was her first thought, but for some reason, even though Evan had told her not to worry about him if something happened, she couldn’t bring herself to ignore it.
Even moving slightly was already difficult, and at the rate her mana was burning, she wouldn’t last much longer.
In other words, escape was impossible.
There was no way out.
So she decided to do the only thing she wanted in that moment.
Take the head of the man in front of her.
Selric, the envoy from the capital, didn’t seem worried as he watched Luna prepare to attack. If anything, he looked curious, eager to see what else this young talent could show him.
He had been assigned to keep the barony safe while Baron Langton was away in the capital on urgent matters.
He wasn’t the first envoy sent here. They were rotated periodically, allowing each to focus on their own affairs while ensuring fortified cities like Lirath were never left undefended.
After the incident a week ago, he had already expected the peace here to be broken, and he had been right.
But even so, he had never expected to encounter a talent like this in such a remote place.
’That aura... it’s definitely a high-level bloodline. Possibly epic... or maybe even beyond...’
The very thought made him feel a surge of excitement. He was already thinking about how best to make use of her.
A bloodline of that level meant enormous future potential, high status, great power.
Someone like him, with an epic-grade bloodline, had only risen to the position of royal envoy. Not low, but far from his ambitions.
Alone, he couldn’t go much further.
But with her... maybe he could.
Luna, unaware of his thoughts, wasted no time. She poured her energy into the blade of her sword and charged forward.
She knew it was useless.
She knew she couldn’t harm him.
But she also knew she had no other options.
So she attacked anyway.
Despite her condition, the strike wasn’t weak. Trees behind him were cut apart instantly, dozens of them, perhaps more.
But it didn’t matter.
Her target was still there.
Unharmed.
A single finger raised, stopping her blade mid-swing. Cracks spread across the weapon under the strain.
She didn’t stop. She attacked again and again, each attempt futile.
In the end, Selric grew tired of it.
With a light tap of his finger, he shattered the incoming blade completely.
But even that didn’t stop her. She moved in with a punch.
"Haa. Being fearless is admirable, but you need to know when to stop," he said, his voice no longer as light as before, a touch of irritation creeping in now.
In the next moment, he moved his hand.
A simple gesture,
Yet it unleashed a powerful burst of mana that struck Luna head-on, sending her flying dozens of meters away, crashing through several trees before finally stopping, half-embedded in one of them.
Unconscious.
Seeing this, Selric shook his head slightly.
"Well, this works too. At least she won’t resist," he muttered, stepping toward her, ready to take her away.
He had already dealt with the other one, and now with her, his task here was complete.
Or so he thought.
Because in the next moment, a violent chill ran down his spine as a deafening scream tore through the entire area.
SCREEEECH.
