Chapter 93: Who scammed who?

"What more could you possibly want from this guy after looting everything the poor old man had?" Blood Reign curiously chimed in his mind.

Damon did not answer her and instead handed over a chunky pouch to the old man. "Thank you, great master. Please take these gold coins. I happened to come across this treasure by accident, but instead of staying with someone useless like me, these coins should be with someone great like you."

The old man accepted the 200 gold coins and looked at Damon with a weird expression. Wasn’t this just the payment for the stock purchase?

Then Damon came to the main agenda. "If I may please trouble the great master to make a few more potions for me..."

The old man arched a brow, his clouded eyes narrowing slightly as if peering through Damon’s courteous mask. "So that’s what this is about," he muttered, not unkindly. "You want me to make more of those failed potions, eh?"

Damon kept his expression respectful but firm. "They were not failures, Great Master. They were simply... misunderstood by the unworthy. But to me, they are invaluable."

There was a long pause. Then the old man let out a rasping chuckle, his shoulders shaking. "You’ve got a silver tongue, boy. Alright. This old man has nothing else to do anyway. If I don’t concoct potions every day, I will lose whatever sanity I have left. But I am going to need more herbs."

Damon smiled and nodded. "Of course. I will bring as many herbs as you need. Thank you, great master. Thank you."

The old man tossed Damon a battered leather satchel, reinforced with arcane stitching. "That’ll keep the good stuff from spoiling," he said. "Now get going. My hands are itching to brew again."

Damon caught the bag with a grin. "Thank you, great master," he said, slipping it into his ring.

As he stepped out into the dusk, Blood Reign gave a low hum. "You are amazing, my liege. I am proud to be your soulbound weapon spirit."

"Mmmhm." Damon hummed. Now he understood how that fucker Ouroboros had become so famous. He even ended up taking the same name as that old guy. Well, the task he had come here for was now completed splendidly, so he made his way to the teleportation portals.

Damon walked a few feet when he suddenly turned to look back at the small shop. "Hmmmm?"

"What is it?" Blood Reign asked, her curiosity piqued.

Damon shook his head. "Nothing." He then continued walking.

Meanwhile, back in the shop, the old man let out a soft, almost inaudible sigh. "What a tricky little blooddrinker." The fog in the old man’s eyes suddenly seemed to have cleared up, and instead, ancient wisdom shone within them.

"Tricky or not, your vessel... hmmmm... this time it is going to be a perfect vessel! Trying to scam me, you little weasel? You are walking right into my trap."

The air inside the old shack grew thick with latent mana as the old man slowly stood, the wheezing cough gone, the stoop in his back straightening with a series of faint bone-pops. His cracked fingernails curled slightly around a chipped glass vial, and the shadow of a grin played across his lips.

Damon took the teleportation portal and reached Niera City in a jiffy. He barely stepped out of the teleportation portal when, out of nowhere, a woman blocked his path. "Stop. I know you are Blood God and you are a vampire."

"Huh?" Damon raised a brow. "So?"

The woman bit her lips and continued. "Look. I just need to talk to you. Because of you, my friend is in a lot of danger at the moment. The least you can do is help us a little."

Damon grinned. "I don’t think so." If he stopped to help every Tom, Dick and Harry his rebirth would only go to shit, wasted on babysitting a bunch of useless noobs.

"You are a monster, you know that! Can’t you even be a little sympathetic? Do you know how much trouble she is in? It’s not just about the game. Her family is forcing her to marry that psychopath in real life. Just. I will explain everything. Can you give me just 5 mins? We really need your help."

Damon paused a little, but in the end, he still shook his head. "I am sorry. I have no idea what you are talking about or who you are talking about, but I am really in a rush." This woman had no idea that there was a death sentence waiting for him. Calling him a monster? Sure, he had been called a lot worse!

Damon did not wait any longer and started walking away. The woman finally couldn’t bear it and shouted after him. "We will pay you. We are ready to pay you. Please. No matter how much you want, we can pay you."

Damon paused again, but this time he did turn back. "Hmmm. Why don’t you send a friend request? Give me a couple of days to think about it. Don’t get your hopes up, but in case I need the money, I might take you up on that offer." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

The woman looked completely furious and shocked at the same time, not even knowing how to react to this. By now, a few nearby players noticed them.

"Hey, is that the Fire Goddess?"

"Yes, that is the red queen, Fire Goddess! Wow, she looks even more beautiful in person!"

"What is the Fire Goddess doing in Niera City? Is there some special event going to happen? Maybe she figured out where the vampires are?"

The mage woman was indeed very beautiful, and she was starting to draw a lot of attention to them. Damon quickly turned and continued to walk away. He did not want to fuck around inside the city limits too much.

If anything, he had learned that even Blood Reign’s camouflage has a limit to it. He quickly slipped into the shadows and disappeared.
