Chapter 79: Royal Blood of Vampires?

The crimson runes glowing on the vampire king’s statue flared to life, pulsing like a heartbeat.

Ethan took a step back, eyes narrowing, hand dropping instinctively to the hilt of Warlord’s Fang.

"System," he growled. "What the hell’s happenin’?"

But there was no time for an answer.

With a thunderous BOOM, the statue exploded outward, shards of stone flying in all directions like

shrapnel. Reyna yanked Daniel down just as a chunk the size of a man’s skull whistled over their

heads and slammed into the corrupted iron fence.

Dust billowed into the sky, a choking, blinding cloud. When it cleared, the statue was gone.

In its place yawned a massive stone doorway, revealed beneath the wreckage. A staircase wound

down into blackness, lit by a sinister glow pulsing like blood.

Ethan stared into the depths, a slow smirk curling his lips.

At that moment, a cool blue window flickered to life beside his face.

Reyna leaned over his shoulder, eyes wide. "A bloody dungeon, don’t ya?"

Daniel looked as though he might faint. "A vampire... sanctuary... under the city...?"

Ethan grinned, black eyes glittering. "Ain’t life full of surprises?"

He turned toward the gaping stairway, voice sharp as a blade. "Both of you—stay sharp. We’re

going in."

Reyna flipped her sword onto her shoulder, a feral grin on her lips. "Aye. Let’s carve us some

myths, don’t ya?"

Daniel swallowed and tightened his grip on his axe. "Right behind you."

Together, they descended into the vampire dungeon.

The stairs spiraled down longer than any of them expected. The deeper they went, the cooler the

air grew, until it felt like they were breathing winter itself.

Their breath fogged around them, drifting between columns of ancient stone engraved with sigils of fangs and blood drops.

Finally, the steps opened into a colossal underground chamber.

It stretched so wide Ethan couldn’t see the far walls, only endless darkness punctuated by pillars

holding up a vaulted ceiling. Rivers of red luminescence slithered along engraved channels in the

stone floor, casting eerie, rippling shadows across everything they touched.

The silence was total.

No dripping water. No shifting rubble. Just an oppressive hush that made Ethan’s pulse thunder in

his ears.

Reyna gazed around, awe etched into her face. "Ain’t seen nothin’ like this, don’t ya?"

Daniel’s voice was tight. "This place... it feels alive."

Ethan’s eyes swept the vast space, sharp and calculating. "Fan out. Look for clues."

They moved cautiously, weapons raised, scanning the enormous chamber.

A hundred meters ahead, Ethan spotted a raised dais. Upon it stood a large glass-and-metal

cascade, sculpted like an ornate coffin.

Vines of tarnished silver curled around its edges, and red crystal inlays gleamed faintly in the glow from the floor.

Ethan jerked his chin at it. "There. Let’s check it."

They advanced, boots silent over the rune-etched stone.

The closer they got, the more Ethan could make out a pale shape inside the crystal coffin. He

halted before it, eyes narrowing as he studied the woman’s form.

Long black hair spilled like ink across a velvet pillow. Her skin was white as moonlight, lips a soft,

chilling crimson.

She looked serene—peaceful, almost sleeping—except for the faint suggestion

of fangs glinting between her parted lips.

Daniel gagged softly. "Gods... she’s beautiful and terrifying all at once."

Reyna rested her sword’s tip against the stone. "Want me ta smash it open, don’t ya?"

Ethan lifted a hand. "No. Not yet."

He shifted his focus inward.

System. Scan the body.

A subtle blue flicker danced over his vision.

Ethan’s jaw clenched. "So she’s a vampire... and she’s not entirely dead."

Reyna glanced at him sharply. "Then what the hell’s keepin’ her down, don’t ya?"

Before Ethan could answer, the ground beneath them began to tremble. A low, bass rumble built

in the walls, vibrating through the soles of their feet.

Daniel’s eyes went wide. "What’s happening—?!"

At once, red warning windows flooded Ethan’s vision.

Reyna barked out a startled laugh. "Calamity-tier?! Oh, fuck that noise, don’t ya!"

Ethan whirled on them. "Back. Now."

They sprinted back several meters just as the cascade’s crystal walls began to glow. Fine hairline

cracks spidered outward. The woman’s eyelids fluttered—and then snapped open.

Scarlet eyes flared like twin lanterns.

With a sound like tearing silk, she sat up inside the coffin, then stood as the glass exploded

outward into a cloud of diamond dust.

Shards flew past Ethan’s cheek, nicking his skin. He didn’t even flinch.

The woman stepped free of the ruins of her prison. Her hair fell around her shoulders like a liquid

curtain of black silk.

She wore nothing but an ornate corset of gold and blood-red lace. Her pale skin shone like porcelain under the red light.

She tilted her head, smiling faintly.

"Humans..." Her voice rolled through the chamber like velvet over steel. She licked a speck of

blood from her lip, eyes half-lidded. "It has been... so long. Come closer. I will feast upon you

tonight."

Daniel staggered back. "Gods above..."

Ethan raised his chin. "Why the hell would we tell you anything?"

The vampire’s eyes sparked. "So bold... I like that."

She stepped forward, her hips swaying, fangs glinting as she spoke. "No matter. I’ll learn all I

need... while I’m peeling secrets from your minds."

She licked her lips again, crimson eyes locked on Ethan like a predator’s.

"And I’ll start... with you."

Suddenly she blurred forward in a flash of supernatural speed, closing the distance in a heartbeat.

The force of her movement sent a shockwave through the chamber, rattling stone columns and

sending cracks racing up the walls.

Ethan dropped into a low stance, Warlord’s Fang sliding free of its sheath with a sharp metallic

hiss. Reyna snarled beside him, sword already swinging into a defensive arc.

Daniel raised his axe, face pale but determined.

"Eyes up!" Ethan roared. "We hold the line!"

The vampire’s laughter rang out like a chime of crystal bells as she lunged.

And the clash began.
