Chapter 31: Would You?

Benedict looked out the window. A growing crowd had gathered around Mike Hawk. He smiled at the sight.

The more that noble was humiliated, the more the Hawk family’s reputation would crumble.

But after a while, the crowd swelled so much that Benedict considered deactivating the Hypnosis.

Still, he pushed the thought aside.

Stick to the plan. Don’t let pity get in the way.

He tapped his fingers on the table. He had been waiting long enough.

Bored, Benedict finally opened his status window.

Benedict’s eyes widened slightly when he noticed the new "Legend Sigils" entry in the status window.

Then it clicked.

The Necro Healing... from Miyabi.

That must’ve been it. That strange healing magic must have granted him this power.

He tapped the "Detail" button next to the Sigil.

---

(C-Tier Legend Sigils – Necro Arm)

<Necro Arm is a power derived from A-tier Necro Healing—a rare loot skill obtained from a Skeleton-type monster.

This skill can reanimate the dead into skeletons.

However, when used on someone gravely injured, it transforms the wounded limb into a powerful skeletal structure>

---

Benedict’s mouth twitched.

He couldn’t believe it. Miyabi had said it so casually... but it turned out to be an A-tier skill.

A skill that could resurrect people... into skeletons!

If he had known this earlier, he might’ve revived someone like a hero of the Solas Kingdom, then asked them to train him.

He scratched his head.

Calm down, Benedict. What’s done is done. Focus on the present.

He kept reading.

---

(C-Tier Legend Sigils – Necro Arm)

<Once A-tier Necro Healing is used on a person, the affected limb will be converted into bone.

This skeletal limb possesses strength beyond the average Novus-tier Ascendant>

<Each attack made using the skeletal limb deals a fixed 10 damage to enemies>

(Downside)

<During daylight, the bonus damage is reduced by 50%, and the user feels discomfort when exposed to sunlight>

---

As he read the description, everything made sense now.

So it’s basically just a basic attack that deals 10 damage?

The average punch from a Novus-tier Ascendant—this world’s lowest tier—was around 3 damage.

Which meant... this skill tripled that amount.

Benedict exhaled slowly.

Not too overpowered... but definitely useful. It would help during grinding, no doubt.

He still had two years left. And in just three days, he had already acquired three new powers and leveled up once.

If he kept progressing at this rate, his power might just catch up to the final-year seniors at the Academy.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed behind him. Along with them came the warm, sweet scent of freshly baked cookies.

Benedict inhaled deeply.

He turned around and saw Rafaela walking toward him, holding a small basket. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Freshly baked, just for him.

She placed the basket gently on the table.

"Enjoy!" she said, flashing a warm smile.

Benedict returned the smile and opened the lid.

The cookies looked heavenly.

Without hesitation, he picked one up and popped it into his mouth. An explosion of flavors danced on his tongue.

He couldn’t even begin to describe the taste, it felt like if he tried, the entire room would be flooded with text boxes full of flavor notes.

"Delicious. Truly," he said simply, but with heartfelt sincerity.

Rafaela’s smile widened, her white teeth showing. She had been worried, what if the taste didn’t live up to his expectations?

She pulled up a chair and sat down across from him.

That startled Benedict a little.

He glanced at her in confusion.

Tiny cookie crumbs clung to the corner of his lips. Honestly... he looked a bit like a squirrel.

"Are you just going to sit there and stare at me like I’m your beloved pet?" he asked, shooting a look her way.

Rafaela giggled. "So what if I am? Watching you eat makes me feel better about baking cookies. You don’t want me to stop baking, do you?"

She gave him a mischievous grin.

"If you ever stop making cookies... I’ll just force you to make them for me," Benedict replied with a teasing smirk of his own.

"Oh? So you’re no different from that noble outside, huh?" Rafaela said, pointing toward the window with her thumb.

Benedict glanced out.

A glimpse of bare skin was still visible between the crowd, that idiot Mike Hawk was still naked.

He immediately turned away.

"Ahem." Benedict cleared his throat. "So... why was that noble trying to hit you earlier?"

Rafaela let out a long sigh. "It’s always the same. A customer walks in... but their eyes aren’t on the cookies. They’re on me."

Her voice hinted at frustration.

"The way they look at me... it’s not like they’re here to buy pastries. It’s like they’re here to buy me."

Benedict listened in silence, nibbling on another cookie.

He understood exactly what she meant.

She was talking about those sleazy customers who came just to leer at her.

And to be fair... Rafaela was incredibly beautiful. But still...

Are people in this world completely blind to the fact that she’s underage?!

It made Benedict feel both disturbed and disgusted. Grown men lusting after someone so young?

Gross.

But then again... this world was set in the 1300s. Marrying underage girls was common. Heck, even in*est wasn’t taboo here.

Hell, even the main protagonist, Enzo, had a sub-heroine who was literally his own sister.

Absolutely deranged.

"I get those kinds of stares every day," Rafaela continued. "And honestly... it disgusts me. Deeply."

Benedict gave a small nod. He noticed Rafaela’s shoulders tense slightly.

"Hmmm... I understand. People like that deserve to die."

"Right?!" Rafaela exclaimed.

Benedict raised his skeletal finger.

"But... why don’t you tell those creeps to stop staring?" he asked.

Rafaela paused to process his question.

He was right. Why didn’t she?

She lowered her head.

"...And how exactly am I supposed to stop them?" she murmured. "I’m just a normal girl... living in a world filled with superpowered people."

Her voice trembled slightly.

"Huh? Are you saying girls can’t be strong?" Benedict asked, genuinely confused.

Rafaela lifted her head, only to find Benedict stuffing another cookie into his mouth like a squirrel.

"You can be strong," he said through crumbs.

"H-how?" Rafaela asked softly, curiosity flickering in her eyes.

Benedict chewed, swallowed, and smiled.

Then he extended his skeletal left hand across the table, slowly opening his palm.

"Would you... like to become an Ascendant?"
