SSS-Knight in a Hero World-Chapter 100: A Great Day
To make a blade strong enough to cut down monstrous beings, one must either have mastered the basics of sword essence, or possess a ridiculously well-crafted weapon to do all the work.
Judas’ manifestation had neither of those qualities. Judas didn’t know how to wield sword essence, and his manifestation wasn’t crafted to be strong.
The golden aura covering the blade was merely excess essence being emitted. Of course, it would be deadly to anyone who dared touch it due to its unique properties. But to Ferris, a master swordsman by this point, he had to be critical of what kind of weapon he was holding.
Ferris held the sword’s essence by the reins and began resonating with it.
Just like how he normally handled sword essence, he first shaped it to fit the sword’s proportions, then sharpened it, then tempered the already sharp essence swirling around it, then shaped it further toward perfection, then sharpened it again.
Shaping, tempering, sharpening.
He drilled years of sword instinct into the manifestation. Only then, once the sword could match itself with Ferris, could the two bring out their full potential.
...He’s ready.
Ferris prepared himself, and so did the manifestation. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Judas said only my soul could handle the true nature of his soul. Let’s see if he’s right.
Sword essence.
"!!!"
Strings of fire ruptured over his hands, as if the sword was chaining itself together with its wielder as a tremendous amount of fiery essence coursed through his body, so much that it disrupted his own essence flow and almost destabilized his entire 9th layer.
Ferris expected to encounter difficulties when using sword essence on a foreign manifestation, but he didn’t expect it to be the other way around.
The resonance was too strong. The manifestation was overpowering his soul!
So this is what he meant. Forget about using this in the first place, could I even swing it once before burning to death?!
His insides felt like they were being burned alive. If it weren’t for his essence layer, he would’ve ended up like that villain seconds ago.
Yet Ferris smiled.
No. It has to be this much at least. With this much...
It ought to only take one essence blade.
Ferris readied his stance so he could use the sword properly, because the essence of the blade alone was heavier than the weapon itself.
It felt more like swinging an iron rod his size than an actual sword.
To think that just using sword essence alone could make a sword so different.
What would happen if I used essence blade?
Ferris removed the restrictions on his essence and refocused its flow and efficiency, forcing it to give him the strength needed to unleash the manifestation’s raw power.
Before he could even take a closer look at the strange forest before him, a horizontal line of light blocked his view.
It was just like Tianqin’s crescent essence blades, a massive AOE attack meant to cleave everything in its path and leave nothing behind. But instead of carving the earth open, the manifestation left its mark by blanketing the entire area in flaming essence.
The putrid fauna began to dry out instead of turning to ash, and once there was no longer any fuel to burn, the golden flames slowly dissipated into nothingness.
What remained was a dead zone, completely devoid of essence.
Ferris blinked.
This level of destruction was unexpected for a 9th layer knight.
Only after his shock faded did he notice the emptiness in his arms, and the disappearance of Judas’ soul essence manifestation.
I guess that drained everything I had...
Plop.
Ferris landed on his back, but at least he felt better than the last time he collapsed. He wasn’t in a hurry, and he didn’t have the burden of trying to save someone.
Sleepiness crept in, yet he couldn’t stop staring at the dragon egg floating above him, wondering what would happen next.
And this time, he was adamant about not doing any more work. Charity had its limits.
I’m sure the others are in a much better state than I am, Ferris imagined.
Elizabeth must’ve done a great job defending the people from minor threats.
And Zaku must’ve done the same for his siblings. With the sword Ferris gave him, Ferris had no worries about them, other than whatever thugs were foolish enough to try.
. . .
Unable to do anything else, he continued staring at the egg and the dimming clouds around it, wondering what the sky beyond even looked like.
However, to his horror, one important thought surfaced.
The bonus cash he would receive after passing the hero examination.
I forgot I was taking an exam before this all happened!
Ferris began to dread and shook his head in agony.
Now that the examination was ruined, would he have to wait another year?
No, no, no, no!
I’ll get evicted. I don’t want to be homeless!
After countless battles, after overcoming impossible obstacles, after experiencing the close embrace of death, he finally wanted something he hadn’t sought before.
Someone help me! Ferris screamed inside.
Unfortunately, a hero who handed out free money was too good to be true, and Ferris knew that.
However, someone did answer his call for help, as the sound of evenly paced, silent footsteps approached him.
If it weren’t for his heightened senses still running hot, he wouldn’t have noticed them.
The orange-haired elf blocked his view of the dragon egg and stared into his dulling eyes before breaking into a wide grin.
Ferris sighed. "Surely after that, I’m definitely a knight."
Evening nodded, easing his worries.
He continued, his voice uncertain. "So you won’t shoot me?"
Evening nodded again, still smiling.
she hasn’t said a word yet...
A certain face went through his mind after staring at her from his angle, and he couldn’t wait to bring it up now that it was appropriate. "...Do you know someone named Felix?"
Evening closed her eyes, still smiling.
she neither nodded her head nor shook it, which urged him to continue his questions.
"Eos..?"
Instantly after saying that, she huffed and smiled even more.
For Ferris, it was as if his old world was still alive and well, but reality slowly began to creep in. He remembered what she said about people like him.
Evening knew that too. She relaxed her expression and knelt down to check his face.
then her voice changed suddenly, a voice that he was familiar with.
There was also a certain change in her eyes that he couldn’t help but pay attention to.
"I know who Eos is, I know her shop, I know what words she said to her parents and how she died right after.
I also know a child named Felix, an outstanding knight and an odd fellow that Eos was lucky enough to have met."
She closed her eyes for a moment, then went back to her usual demeanor. "Name’s Evening though, dont forget that, partner."
After staring at Ferris’ face for a bit more, she stood up and drew her gun out. "Obviously you need a reward for this, so..."
click.
Just like before, she drew her gun out and charged it with that ominous black energy, and since there was nothing to interrupt her, Ferris could feel the amount of essence being built up.
Thats enough to—
"Cover your ears!" she gleefully shouted.
Midnight blast.
The entire valley groaned in a low-pitched rumble as a pillar of void went straight up to the sky, with black thunder swirling around it like vines.
It continued to echo the deafening sound until it was reduced to a mere rumble in the background.
Because of his state, Ferris was unable to cover his ears, so he closed his eyes during the entire scene. He only opened them after the ringing in his ears calmed down enough that it wouldn’t disorient him.
Before anything else, the first thing Ferris looked for was Evening, but the elf was nowhere to be seen.
Is she trying to act cool? Ferris suddenly became a little agitated.
When he couldn’t find something to vent his anger at, he finally noticed the firework show above him.
There was a large hole on the egg, exactly on the spot where he attacked it, exposing its soft membrane.
Evening utilized that weakness to finally bring down the egg, causing it to shoot out fire as it slowly descended down to the earth.
As it did so, the barrier finally began to lose its color and clear out.
The real sky.
Real stars.
It was such an amazing sight to see.
It was too bad that his mind also began to use up its fuel. His senses slowly began to weaken until they disappeared. First his body’s sense of touch, then his smell, then his taste, then his hearing, and lastly his sight began to blur out.
But before he could finally sleep, there was a figure appearing in front of his lying body.
It was hard to make out, but the figure was staring at him with a peaceful smile and looked at him with deep-set blue eyes that made Ferris feel exposed, as if the figure knew everything about him.
But when the figure spoke, his ears were able to perceive it as a voice inside his mind, a voice that he wouldn’t forget.
Sir... Yaromech? Ferris regained a bit of his sight.
"Felix... our duty is done, its time to go."
his teacher offered him their hand.
Ferris reached out to it with every bit of strength he could still produce.
But that strength wasn’t meant to make him give up easily.
He slapped it away without hesitation, before losing his strength again.
"Not yet, old man."
Ferris smiled at Yaromech’s dumbfounded mouth and shocked eyes, but he was sure his former teacher could understand him.
Yaromech paused before blushing slightly from embarrassment. "I remember the last time you called me like that, I said that you were talentless.
but I guess I was wrong that day."
The figure began to fizzle away in his last moments, but he wanted to make it count. "Felix... or should it be Ferris now?"
Yaromech blinked before focusing on his final words.
"Sir Ferris, you are one fine knight."
