Chapter 118: Authorities

Elizabeth silently stared at the mail sent to her by Tailor. After a minute of thought, she turned to her sister for advice. "Does this mean anything?"

Since Asmadeas foresaw the mail being sent, Elizabeth assumed that like always, her sister had an accurate explanation for it.

She too took a while and arrived at an empty conclusion. "I’ll have to meet Tailor’s brother in order to get a good read..."

Elizabeth frowned. "So you don’t know?"

"My sis is so mean!" Asmadeas cried out as a joke. Though, there was a river of thoughts flowing through her head.

I almost forget his name, it’s that green-haired boy, was it? she thought as she teased Elizabeth’s head.

As far as she remembered, after the barrier was broken in the innermost area of City 23, the hero association took under 10 minutes to flood the inner city with its heroes and own private military.

After a few rounds of "cleaning", the city was quickly declared as recovered territory, all survivors of the incident were compensated, and all victims that were already inside the city were processed into reintegration back into society.

Though, she and her sister couldn’t care less about the work that needed to be done, their job was already finished.

The only people they’ve interacted with during their last day in that dreaded city was seeing Tailor off with his younger brother.

He wasn’t "bright" as far as I remember. Why would Tailor suddenly want to conscript his brother who has been lost for years into Sis’ personal bodyguard group?

After giving up on finding an answer, she could only wait for that moment to come.

Asmadeas turned to her sister, who was now strangely fixated on the email. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"It says they’ll come early tomorrow, let’s go out for dinner and head to sleep quickly," Elizabeth muttered out before closing her laptop.

Asmadeas perked up upon hearing Elizabeth, "My dear sister is asking me out on a date for once?!

This won’t do, I have to change!"

Before Elizabeth could discourage her from wasting time, Asmadeas already vacated herself from the room.

She sighed a tired breath before contacting Lionheart of her sudden trip outside the safety of her home, then made her way down the staircase and walked down a good chunk of the floors.

Since she had lived with her sister for so long, she knew that walking down half of the building worth of stairs was the ideal time for Asmadeas to get changed.

Stepping off the last step, she quickly made her way to the lobby, where Lionheart and her sister were already waiting in front of a car amongst a few others on standby.

But the next thing she saw was Asmadeas’ face filled with disapproval. "You hardly changed!"

Elizabeth scoffed a little. "I was supposed to?" she then shifted her gaze. "A white regal dress, didn’t Tailor create that for you?" she smiled.

Her sister sighed, disappointed of Elizabeth’s memory. "Tailor made this dress for you, but you forgot about it.

I’m just not letting it go to waste."

"It looks better on you anyways. Let’s head inside."

Asmadeas smiled, as her sister’s sudden compliment made her forget why she was mad in the first place. "Even though you’re wearing plain clothing, this dress can never beat your hair."

"Don’t we have the same hair?"

"We do~, but mine feels duller compared to yours~"

After stepping into the car, Lionheart checked the surroundings first before going into the driver’s seat. But instead of immediately setting off, he waited for the lead vehicle to start the journey before following it.

Even though it was nighttime, the streets of City Three were as lively as they were at noon.

This was thanks to its status as a high-tiered city, and despite its small land area, it made up for it with an absurd amount of conglomerates headquarters packed in the innermost city.

However, its most important asset is its above-average density of high-ranking heroes living within the innermost city.

Their sheer presence alone was enough to skyrocket the already high land value, which in turn only allowed the cream of the crop of society to live there, and as such the city was given the not so humble nickname of ’city of superstars’.

Asmadeas quietly watched her sister, who was seemingly out of phase with reality and was glued to the car’s window.

As Asmadeas did so, she started to believe that the nickname came from her sister’s presence in the city.

Elizabeth shifted her gaze into the window’s reflection. "I can see you ogling."

"My sincerest apologies." Asmadeas pleaded, though it was obvious that she had no sense of shame.

"We’re here." Lionheart interjected.

The convoy neatly parked close by each other at the side of the road, however the car with the most important occupants stayed inside, as only after the other guards could deem the area safe, Elizabeth and Asmadeas would come out.

"I guess some of them aren’t bad with their new jobs." Elizabeth commented on the newly hired guards.

"Aren’t they the ones you grouped up back in the city as temporary fighters?" her sister questioned, but she didn’t remember their individual faces, only their status as a group.

Elizabeth nodded, she spotted one of her bodyguards before asking Lionheart a question. "That one who tried sizing you up from before, he has a blessing that allows him to sense danger, yes?"

"You’re correct, he’s actually quite mellow, surprisingly." Lionheart added.

"Oh! Only my sister can remember the insignificant details of a stranger!"

After a few seconds, the mellow bodyguard gave a nod to Lionheart which signaled that it was safe to come out.

Elizabeth stepped out into the night and made her way in front of one of the many high-class restaurants that can be spotted at every corner of the streets of City 3.

But this one was Elizabeth’s favorite due to its larger servings of hearty meals, or just larger servings overall.

Because of the city’s high-class status, no one bothered the two sisters and their small gang of bodyguards that quietly followed them.

Once the two sat down, Lionheart found his place at a neighboring table while the rest sat down nearby but not as close as compared to Lionheart.

The guards immediately ordered water, some buying refreshing beverages to keep their senses sharp, but not a single one ordered alcoholic drinks.

Elizabeth had herself a portion of pasta that was deemed unfit for a late-night dinner, while Asmadeas received a plate that should’ve been eaten at breakfast.

"Now that you’re a registered hero, do you think father will give up pestering you?" Asmadeas questioned.

Elizabeth shook her head, "No, it’s more likely he’ll hire fake villains to scare me off the job."

Her sister laughed, "Then the Elizabeth Foundation might go bankrupt if you keep defeating all the assassins they’ll buy and throw at you."

For once, Elizabeth laughed but she quickly steadied her facial expressions.

Her strength as of now was completely inadequate for her wants and needs.

For example...

"!" Elizabeth almost lost her grip on her utensils.

As for Asmadeas, she was too shocked to even let go of her utensils as she gripped them tightly.

Lionheart was in the same situation, but he was mentally strong enough to look towards the two sisters who seemed only mentally hurt, but the other bodyguards seemed fine at first, and all of the people inside were happily eating and chatting as if nothing had happened. "Who..." he muttered under his breath.

Before long, a golden-haired lady walked by, followed by a blue-haired female assistant that looked almost pensive and worried at the same time.

That silhouette, there was no mistaking it.

Every eye in the room took a glance at the number 1 hero, who sat herself in the center along with her awkward assistant.

"One strawberry milkshake," she said loudly.

Asmadeas looked on with a stern expression before facing her sister, who had a relatively dark expression. "...Sis, I think we should leave—

Shatter!

A glass fell not too far from them, but not a single person focused on the little incident as they were too distracted.

Elizabeth saw the source of the incident, it was the mellow bodyguard who was suddenly experiencing a strange seizure. He could only blurt out half coughs, and shook his head with unnatural force and a sense of panic.

Only then, did Elizabeth gradually loosen her darkened expression. "You’re right, I’ve ordered too much pasta."

The two stood up and left, followed by Lionheart, then followed by the rest of the bodyguards who were busy taking care of their brethren.

As they neared the exit, Asmadeas suddenly experienced a cold sweat and a revelation. "Elizabeth, whatever you do...

Do not look behind us, not even a glance!" she warned.

But of course, Asmadeas wasn’t fast enough to beat the outcome of fate with the use of her blessing.

By the time she ended her sentence, Elizabeth was already half on her way to turn around.

Elizabeth stared at a pair of stars that looked directly at her being.

To Asmadeas’ horror, her sister’s shining fate waned ever so slightly.

Asmadeas quickly grabbed her sister’s attention before leaving with her and the rest.
