Standing Next To You-Chapter 281: Reconciliation to Grudge
Chapter 281: Reconciliation to Grudge
Grandma Bei was angry towards the other villagers, but regarding Fei Chuan, she had mixed emotions. However, since this was a child her granddaughter hated, Grandma Bei was also cold to Fei Chuan.
"What did you come here for? You should return before the weather gets cold. You might get sick, and other people might think our family mistreated you again."
Fei Chuan was unfazed by Grandma Bei’s cold attitude. He stepped forward, "Where is Bei Sangyun?"
"My granddaughter went to where her parents are. She will never return here."
"...Did she leave because of me?" Fei Chuan asked, his stiff expression finally showing some vulnerability of a child.
Grandma Bei glanced at him and sighed, "...Not because of you. It is my decision to send her over. Life there offers more for her than here. My little Sangyun deserves better." Her granddaughter deserves so much more than to be persecuted by this damn place that failed to understand her true worth.
Fei Chuan lowered his head.
Bei Sangyun had truly left.
He turned silent for a long time.
Grandma Bei did not want to mind the children’s matters anymore and was about to return to her hut when Fei Chuan asked again,
"Grandma Bei, can you tell me where she lives now? I have a lot of misunderstandings with her. I’d like to apologize."
Grandma Bei paused. "...It’s far. It’s in the capital, little boy. Grow up well and healthy, perhaps you might have a chance to meet her there and tell her you’re sorry."
Grandma Bei did not wait for Fei Chuan’s reaction and entered her hut, leaving the little boy outside alone.
Fei Chuan remained silent outside the Bei’s residence for a while.
The capital.
He knows where that place is. That’s where he came from, where he grew up, and was finally kicked out when he became useless.
Fei Chuan looked at his pale little hands and muttered sadly.
"...I might not meet her, Grandma. Because I am going to die in this place."
He was going to die young, and might not ever step foot in the capital again.
But fate was tricky and often unpredictable.
Who could have thought Fei Chuan would not succumb to death at a young age or grow chronically ill? Instead, his illness dissipated little by little.
Although he appeared somewhat sickly with his slender body and pale fair skin, he was healthy inside. Even the doctors who had assisted him since youth called it a miracle.
The Fei family in the Capital must have been watching him closely. Because when the doctor finally confirmed that his old sickness was gone from his system, he was suddenly summoned back to the Capital and instructed to reside in the Fei mansion.
The headmaster of the Fei family, his grandfather, wanted to reinstate his rights as a main member of the Fei family.
It was ironic that the person they had expelled several years ago was now summoned back.
Fei Chuan had no intention of returning to the people who had abandoned him. However, thinking of the Capital and the unfinished business he had with a certain someone, he chose to return.
Now, with a glimmer of hope for his future, his ambitions ignited.
Perhaps, he could now dare to dream and transform those dreams into reality.
However, upon his return, reality shattered his expectations. His position within the Fei family deteriorated significantly. Many harbored discontent simply because he existed. While he had indeed regained his health, his safety now hung in the balance.
The person he longed to see had transformed so drastically that he struggled to recognize her. She now stood at the pinnacle, radiating confidence and nobility befitting those in high ranks.
They were different worlds apart. She basked in glory and fame, while he became a mere bearer of the Fei family name, shrouded in nothing but gloominess.
There seemed to be no way for the present him to approach her for reconciliation or friendship.
To her, he was but an obstacle obstructing her path to greatness. Their reunion bred not joy, but estrangement and animosity.
As she played tricks against him, Fei Chuan accepted it silently. He had no intention of stealing her top rank, the people’s admiration, or anything else from her, as he had done in the past.
So, he chose not to fight back, remaining at the bottom. He watched her dominate from the top, while he remained nameless without achievements. This was his way of apologizing to her for the transgressions of their shared history.
But... Fei Chuan had overestimated himself and forgotten that he too was only human.
The bullying, the mockery, and the ridicule became unbearable, even for him.
He endured for two years, but the bullying spiraled out of control. The remorse he felt toward Bei Sangyun faded over time, replaced by disdain and hatred.
Quietly, he watched her graduate at the top of her class while enduring the humiliation she had caused him. Over those two years, he suffered in silence, etching the faces of those who ridiculed him into his memory.
He vowed to himself that he would repay this humiliation in the future.
And as for Bei Sangyun... now that he had settled his debts with her, he could be unrestrained in the future and reveal his true character to her.
He was neither a coward nor someone who would lie down in the face of bullying. He was determined to ensure she understood and remembered that.
After solidifying his position within the Fei family and returning to the country, Fei Chuan ensured that his name resounded with reverence and admiration.
Crossing paths with Bei Sangyun several years later, the grudge that Fei Chuan carried for the past years finally found an outlet.
The moment he had been waiting for had now arrived. He could finally confront her to his heart’s content.
Since Bei Sangyun felt threatened because of him, then he would rub his face on her and experience the terror he had suffered through his high school years.
Thus, the clash between two industry titans capable of summoning heavy rain and storms in the business world had begun.
