Chapter 1549: Entering Skyward Again (II)

The Dragon Observatory leader stowed the screen with a wave of his hand. He quickly activated a mirror.

It took a while before a figure appeared on it.

“World master, we’ve decided to leave in ten days,” the leader reported respectfully.

The world master didn’t really seem to care. “What’s critical on this trip is not killing people,” he said slowly. The Observatory leader indicated that he was all ears.

“What is of primary importance is to incite all-out war between Red Moon and New Martial, and as soon as possible!” laughed the shadow. “High ranks need to be involved in the conflict as well! What Red Moon offers in rewards is not the key.

“Hunting down New Martial powerhouses is just to throw New Martial into turmoil, so that they won’t randomly wander around and won’t gather together to strike back! New Martial citizens always take revenge for any slight, and they usually do so in very quick fashion. That is why I told you to go after them.”

“I understand!” nodded the Observatory leader. He hesitated, then asked, “World master, the Hao Moon that I suspected was the Silver Moon king did not utilize the strength of a dao universe when I tested him. Of course, he may have been hiding his strength, but the Silver Moon king can’t possibly outright emerge in the universe as a mid rank, can he?

“Also, I am unable to determine if he’s behind the death of Drouth from Utmost Dark at Demon Summit.”

“My opinion is still that a dao universe has been born in Silver Moon,” replied the world master after some thought. “Perhaps there’s something unusual about the Silver Moon king. Otherwise, it’s impossible for a pure wandering cultivator to cultivate so quickly.

“Just organizing the great dao is a tremendous undertaking, and only a dao universe can help one with the task. But each of his moves are accompanied by a chaos tribulation. Perhaps it has something to do with a unique dao that he cultivates.

“We’ll know the truth to all of this when we capture him. After you leave, I’ll send someone to oversee Dragon Observatory and Demon Summit. Skyward is a very important part of our plans. We can’t lose it just because we’re hunting down New Martial powerhouses!

“Have there been other changes in Skyward lately?” asked the world master.

The Dragon Observatory leader thought for a moment, then shook his head. Some changes had cropped up in Sky River last time and it’d seemed that Skyward’s dao universe was on the verge of appearing. However, that dwindled away and nothing resulted from it.

“Nothing at all?” The shadow murmured to itself, “Some abnormalities appeared when the Exalted Skyriver Emperor was killed. It’s said that there was a chaos tribulation then as well. Did it have something to do with the Silver Moon king? Can it be that he did something in Skyward and caused changes to percolate through the world?

“We need to take this person alive if we can!” the world master concluded slowly. “Compared to New Martial or even Red Moon, Skyward is the most important! It is the key to us attaining ninth rank and becoming a ninth rank world!

“Once Skycloud is a ninth rank world, a metamorphosis will take place. We should be able to produce more dao origin strength then and create a few seventh ranks! Dragon, you’ve done well and worked hard in Skyward these years. If the opportunity is at hand, it will be your opportunity to enter seventh rank!”

The Observatory leader hastily thanked his world master. Seventh rank was critical at his level, but it wasn’t so easy to attain. The world master had made him a concrete promise now; the august personage wasn’t in the habit of killing someone after extracting value from them. It wasn’t worth doing so. Possessing an additional seventh rank was good for Skycloud.

Seeing as the world master was about to terminate communication, the man quickly said, “World master, I have one more thing to report. It has to do with Light major world...”

“Do you mean the crown prince of Light?” laughed the shadow. “There’s no need to pay attention to him for the moment! Of course, you can take whatever action is appropriate if he insists on making trouble for you.

“Light and I are not ready to declare war on each other. That can wait until Red Moon and New Martial have finished their business!”

Since they weren’t ready for full-blown hostilities, they would not bestir themselves to great effort yet. Otherwise, it would only benefit others if they started fighting before Red Moon and New Martial did.

“I understand!” The Observatory leader nodded. So there was no need to be afraid of that guy. Granted, he wouldn’t purposefully seek out trouble either. That would also be a hassle.

The mirror returned to calm. Both sides had terminated the connection.

It was clear to see how much the world master valued Skyward—an eighth rank often expended energy and resources to converse with him, a sixth rank! Of course, this also had much to do with multiple exalted emperors potentially entering ninth rank.

Void would be the strongest left in Dragon Observatory with the leader’s departure. He was concerned that the guy might get up to no good as a result.

At the same time, Skycloud would send reinforcements. As for who that might be, the leader didn’t care. He needed Void to be calm and docile before his replacement came. Otherwise, life would be rather unpleasant.

His expression shifted as the leader’s thoughts traveled here. Someone appeared in front of him a heartbeat later.

“My apologies for disturbing you, Observatory leader!” Void said calmly.

“......” The Dragon Observatory leader squeezed out a small smile. “What is the matter, Void?”

“Observatory leader, when does the hunt for the Sword Sovereign begin?”

“Soon!” smiled the leader as he cursed inwardly. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

“You’ll take me with you, yes?” Void looked at him.

In your dreams!

The leader struggled with an incoming migraine. “I will...”

“Does the Observatory leader not wish to take me with you?”

“......”

Void stared him down. “Is the Observatory leader worried about something?”

“Not at all!”

Void looked meaningfully at the other. He hadn’t cared about his identity being exposed, but that development did come with certain inconveniences, such as the situation he faced right now.

The man thought for a while before saying, “Then I won’t make things difficult for the Observatory leader either, but I have a request.”

“What is it?” frowned the other.

“I want control over Demon Summit,” Void said calmly. “I will stand guard over Demon Summit in the Observatory leader’s absence and enter at will. No one else is to access it without my permission!”

Demon Summit!

The faction leader frowned. This was the basis of Dragon Observatory’s power. The dao foundation site had consumed a great deal of energy lately and could not be accessed in the short term. Even if it was accessible, one would have to feed it a large sum of resources first.

Why did Void want control over it? Had Hao Moon discovered something on his last visit and told him about it?

The faction leader fretted indecisively. On one hand, he was worried that Void really would be lucky enough to find something. On the other, he was concerned about additional trouble developing if he didn’t agree.

To be honest, he didn’t have much use for Demon Summit these days. It was fine if it was handed over to Void. But if he agreed as soon as Void asked for it, wouldn’t that be a loss of face?

“Observatory leader, either you take me to hunt the Sword Sovereign together or I sit in residence at Demon Summit!” Void emphasized at this time.

“Void, you...” frowned the faction leader.

“I know that the Observatory leader may not be afraid of me, since... Dragon Observatory has quite a patron as well.” Void was coolly composed. “But if I insist on making trouble and killing you, I don’t think the Exalted Skycloud Emperor will take me to task for it. I can just pay some resources in compensation!

“But if you kill me, my father will take your world to task for it! That is the difference between us! Neither of us wish to have a war in Skyward Region while one rages in Red Moon Region. A war is bound to break out if you kill me. But if I kill you, you’re just a chaos wanderer on the surface, aren’t you?”

That made sense!

The Dragon Observatory leader was well aware of this logic. Why would he be showing face to Void otherwise? Although he had Skycloud major world backing him, there was still a difference between the two of them.

If he died and Light major world was willing to compensate his world with sufficient treasures, Skycloud might not insist on addressing the offense. But if Void died, the Observatory leader was likely done for as well, unless the two sides went to war.

However, what was Void’s motivation in wanting control over Demon Summit?

Void looked at him and chuckled, “Is the Observatory leader worried that I’ll stumble upon some stroke of fortune?”

“That’s not it!” laughed the man. “If that truly does exist, it would be your fortuitous occurrence and I would be so happy for you!” The Observatory leader thought for a moment before saying, “This can be done if you must! But a friend of mine will arrive in a few days to help me oversee Dragon Observatory. I hope that you can aid him well and not clash against him...”

Void understood; Skycloud was sending someone to take over for the faction leader.

“I will not cause trouble if he does not cause it for me.” Void nodded after some thought.

“I trust Fellow Daoist Void!” chuckled the Observatory leader. This was his ultimate decision in order to avoid some trouble and prevent the man from joining their operation. It didn’t matter if there was anything to be gained in Demon Summit or not; he could have control over it for a while.

The leader took out an item that resembled a medallion. “This is the entry token to Demon Summit! You can access the door with it and enter at any time...”

“My thanks!” Void vanished after accepting the item. He’d known with the exposure of his identity that this guy would find it difficult to trust him again. The faction leader would absolutely not be bringing him along to hunt the Sword Sovereign.

It probably wasn’t convenient for him to leave Skyward anymore. In that case, he would sit tight with Demon Summit.

Li Hao would be returning to it sooner or later, if for no reason other than dao chess could help the young man return. Exercising control over the dao foundation site would be helping Li Hao. If he met with danger and chose to flee into the treasure for safety, then at the very least, whoever was in charge of Demon Summit might be able to sense it.

Certain troubles could be avoided if Void was in charge. He could also freely come and go to cultivate within. Due to the previous presence of the Observatory leader and Void’s concerns of missing the march on the Sword Sovereign if he was in seclusion for too long, the man was overdue for some cultivation.

Since these people didn’t want to take him with them, it would be just as nice to make use of the opportunity to study dao chess.

The two parties quickly reached an accord. The Observatory leader heaved a sigh of relief and cursed to himself when he saw Void leave, but soon smiled again.

This was just as good! He’d finally neutralized this latent source of trouble.

This was wonderful!
