Starforce Warriors-Chapter 1008: Who Are You?
Yes. Chongque City was in chaos. The source of the unrest stemmed from a sudden offensive launched by several returning bigwigs from the Star Battlefield, who directed their ire toward the City Lord’s Office led by Li Junjie.
Small-scale clashes had already broken out within the city. Tensions flared between the Six Imperial Guards and military factions, resulting in a few casualties. The city had been placed under martial law.
With control of the situation in their hands, military officials began broadcasting across the city, denouncing the City Lord’s Office and its leadership. Panic spread among the citizens.
Troops gathered en masse outside the City Lord’s Office. A dense swarm of heavily armed warriors surrounded the compound from all directions like a rising tide.
Four Sky Class Haotian strategic warships loomed above, their presence casting long shadows. Hundreds of military officers hovered in midair, emanating an oppressive aura. Li Junjie and the elite members of the City Lord’s Office stood in front of them, locked in a tense standoff.
“False city lord, lacking legitimacy, and now daring to resist the Xiao Kuang Legion. Surrender at once, or be slain without mercy!” A young black-haired officer surrounded by soldiers shouted loudly.
His cultivation had likely reached the Five Dragons Realm. But those accompanying him included experts of the Six Gods Realm, the Seven Transformations Realm, and beyond. The overwhelming pressure of dozens of absolute powerhouses made the City Lord’s Office faction seem fragile. It was on the brink of collapse.
Li Junjie stood at the very front. Once a lowly youth from the slums, he now possessed a tall and commanding figure, a square jaw, and features that radiated masculine authority. Clad in ancient bronze-colored armor, and with a trace of black beard beneath his chin, he looked mature and steady—every bit a man forged through hardship and leadership.
At Li Junjie’s side stood many of Chongque City’s strongest cultivators. Among them were the six Lords of the Imperial Guard selected from within the city, as well as newly promoted elites drawn from various Earth-based realms.
However, most of them were only around the Three Origin Realm. Under normal circumstances, such a level of cultivation was more than enough to maintain control over Chongque City. But that level of power was no longer sufficient with the intervention of military forces from the Star Battlefield.
“I have served lawfully and diligently, supporting the Star Battlefield with everything at my disposal. Since assuming the post of City Lord, I have never abused my authority. I’ve governed Chongque City, overseen the hundred thousand Earths, bolstered troop supply, and never once relaxed in my duty.” Li Junjie’s face was tight with anger as he questioned, “If you truly are the elite human forces from the frontlines of the Star Battlefield, then why have you turned your blades and guns against your own logistics brothers?”
“Brothers?” The black-haired officer at the front of the military sneered contemptuously. “What are you even worth? Just a dog barely clinging to life in the rear. You’ve twisted justice in the inner city, slaughtered human martial artists, ruled through tyranny, and cast this city into a dark age... And you, a dog raised by that traitor Li Xiaofei, think you’re worthy of calling battlefield heroes like us your brothers?”
“What did you say?” Li Junjie’s expression changed drastically. “What did you say about my master?”
“Heh... Pitiful fool. Looks like you really don’t know. Li Xiaofei has joined Eden, betrayed the human race, and fled into the territory occupied by the Reapers...”
“Bullshit!” Li Junjie’s rage exploded as he shouted, “Shut your damn mouth!”
In that instant, the political composure he had cultivated over the years shattered completely. The one thing he could never tolerate was slander against his teacher. He could endure blades and swords piercing into his body, but not a single word defaming his master.
“What now? The dog’s getting desperate?” The black-haired youth said coldly.
Li Junjie took a deep breath. Then, without a word, he removed his helmet and handed it to the man beside him.
"From this moment on, I am no longer the City Lord of Chongque City," Li Junjie declared. "I have only one identity now, the disciple of Li Xiaofei. Everything I do from here on has nothing to do with Chongque City."
"City Lord!"
"You mustn’t!"
The surrounding elites of the Six Imperial Guards were shocked.
Over the years, Li Junjie had poured heart and soul into governing Chongque City and had earned immense prestige. None of them could bear to see him walk alone into what looked like certain death.
Li Junjie raised his hand to stop them and said, "My master has been insulted. I cannot sit idly by. I must seek justice."
With that, he turned to the black-haired officer across from him and said, "You have slandered my master. Between us now stands a blood feud. I, as the disciple of Li Xiaofei, challenge you to a duel to the death. This matter concerns no one else. Do you dare face me?"
The black-haired youth burst into loud laughter. His voice was filled with mockery and disdain. After a long moment, his laughter faded.
"You? You're nothing but a speck of dust, an insect. You think you’re worthy of facing me? But... it has been a while since I’ve exercised. Playing with a little bug like you might be amusing after all."
He rolled his wrists and stepped forward.
"Young Master, there's no need to use a bull blade to slaughter a chicken. Allow me to handle this," one officer urged.
"Young Master, this man is beneath you. He’s not worthy of your hands," said another.
The officers and generals around him were startled, rushing to dissuade him for fear he might be injured. But the black-haired youth seemed intrigued.
He said, "A little warm-up wouldn’t hurt. Enough—don’t try to stop me. A worm like this can’t harm me."
He dismissed them with a wave. The officers around him could only offer bitter smiles. Their young master always acted on a whim. Now, of all times, he had decided to entertain himself with a duel.
Still, Chongque City had no true powerhouses. Letting the young master amuse himself wasn’t entirely unreasonable. They just needed to keep a close eye on the battlefield. If anything went wrong, they could intervene in time.
"Name yourself," Li Junjie demanded, stepping into the air with blade in hand.
The black-haired youth responded with arrogant clarity, "Yue Wusuan."
He was from the Yue Family of the Xiao Kuang Star Region, a famously powerful military family. How could these country folk possibly grasp the weight carried by that name?
A crimson long spear appeared in his grasp. Instantly, searing heat spread through the air. It was an Immortal Artifact-level weapon.
He thrust the spear forward and a blazing meteor tore through the sky. Across from him, Li Junjie gripped his blade with both hands, flames igniting in his eyes. His fighting spirit surged to its peak. In an instant, he transformed into a raging beast and entered a state of total battle frenzy.
Everyone could see clearly that this strike was not something Yue Wusuan, who was only at the Five Dragons Realm, could possibly withstand. It was a blow that could instantly kill any cultivator below the Six Gods Realm. Li Junjie, the City Lord of Chongque City, had been hiding his true strength all along.
Boom!
BOOM—BOOM!
Streams of radiant energy collided in the sky. It was as if a massive star had been shattered in the heavens, scattering its blazing fragments in every direction. The terrifying force rippled outward with overwhelming intensity.
The Six Imperial Guards of Chongque City were like chaff in a hurricane, completely unable to resist as they were flung backward. Several of them bled from their mouths and noses, their faces pale and drained.
This level of battle didn’t just exceed their cultivation, it surpassed the very limits of their imagination. The City Lord’s sudden eruption of strength was shocking enough, but even so, it would only allow him to contend with Yue Wusuan. If he had to face the full might of the military’s elite... It would be certain death. There would be no escape.
Though their hearts ached, they were powerless to help. As the radiant explosion finally faded, visibility slowly returned to the sky. But just then—
“Who... are you?!” A voice rang out from one of the military powerhouses, filled with shock and disbelief. It was an uncontrollable cry that echoed across the battlefield.
