Starforce Warriors-Chapter 675: Last Words
Chapter 675: Last Words
Li Xiaofei walked through the crowd toward Si Kongxue.
"What do you think you’re doing?" asked Si Xingyun. He looked cautious as he immediately stepped in front of Li Xiaofei. "Stay away from my daughter. Know your place; this is not the time or place for nonsense."
Li Xiaofei didn’t try to force his way forward. Instead, he blew a playful kiss toward Si Kongxue.
The crowd fell into stunned silence. Rumors had long circulated that Li Qingchen and the eldest daughter of the Fengyu Merchant Guild had an improper relationship. Most had dismissed it as baseless gossip, but now... Tsk, tsk, tsk. Something was definitely going on.
Countless pairs of eyes turned toward Si Kongxue, waiting for her reaction. But to their disappointment, she showed no visible response to Li Qingchen's bold public display of affection.
She simply stood there. She neither recoiled in disgust nor blushed with joy. Her brilliant eyes, striking and mesmerizing as always, remained as calm as a still lake. They were utterly devoid of emotion.
But Li Xiaofei could see through her. He could feel the burning intensity hidden deep within those eyes and beneath that serene facade.
He said nothing more as he turned and walked toward the dueling stage. As Si Kongxue watched his retreating figure, her delicate fingers tightened around a small, razor-sharp dagger hidden in her palm.
If you die on the dueling stage, I will follow you in death, she whispered the vow silently in her heart.
It was truly strange. There were people one might meet countless times, brush past in hallways, share rooms with, engage in conversation with, and become deeply familiar with. Yet one would never feel even the slightest spark of emotion.
Then, there were others. People one might meet only once, spend barely a few hours with, share a simple breakfast, exchange a few words. Suddenly, one would be willing to live and die for them.
Perhaps this was love? Something that had nothing to do with time. Something mysterious and inexplicable. Something that always began suddenly and without reason. Something that made one throw caution to the wind without hesitation.
Just as the saying went, ‘Love knows no beginning, yet once it starts, it runs deep’. No one else knew what was going through Si Kongxue’s mind. They only saw that she showed no visible reaction to Li Qingchen.
Immediately, the crowd dismissed him as nothing more than a fat toad dreaming of eating swan meat. A fool who did not know his place.
Even Si Xingyun let out a breath of relief.
Thank goodness. At least there was no public embarrassment.
Only one person, Madam Kong Xue, dressed in her finest attire, frowned slightly. A touch of resignation flickered in her beautiful eyes, but she, too, said nothing.
Both fighters had to sign a life-and-death agreement before the duel could begin. It then had to be reviewed and stamped by the Internal Affairs Bureau. This process was far more tedious than the last major duel.
Then, one of the Inner Division’s directors gave a speech. The whole thing felt more like a New Year's ceremony than a deadly battle. Finally, after nearly half an hour of delays, the arena battle officially commenced.
However, to Li Xiaofei’s surprise, his match against Nangong Longjian wasn’t the first on the itinerary. There were three preliminary life-or-death matches before their main event. A warm-up before the grand showdown.
“What the fuck,” cursed a dumbfounded Li Xiaofei. freeweɓnøvel~com
This is just a life-or-death duel. Why the hell is it so needlessly complicated? There’s too much filler.
At this rate, the audience outside was probably cursing up a storm. Fortunately, the three warm-up battles didn’t drag on for too long. Each match ended quickly. The winners lived and the losers died, staining the dueling platform in blood. The air grew thick with tension, sending a shiver through every spectator.
The time for the final battle had arrived. Li Xiaofei shed his outer robe, revealing a tight-fitting warrior’s combat suit underneath.
He held the Flying Snow spear and landed on the stage with a single leap. Without hesitation, he kicked aside a corpse still lying on the arena floor, sending it tumbling off the stage. Then, he leveled his spear at Nangong Longjian.
"Come and fight."
His voice boomed across the arena. This scene earned silent cheers from many in the audience. No matter how ridiculous or perverse the rumors about Li Qingchen had been, at this moment, facing the legendary King of the Arena, he displayed unshakable courage and unmatched boldness.
At the very least, he was far stronger than those so-called experts who had died from fright before even stepping onto the stage.
Meanwhile, Nangong Longjian was still seated at his table and eating. He had a habit. Before every life-or-death duel, he would feast until the very last moment before stepping onto the arena. He had to eat well and he had to eat his fill.
Nangong Longjian finally rose to his feet, wiping his hands slowly with a white silk handkerchief. Then, he tossed the handkerchief aside. Clad in his flowing cyan robe, he took one step, then another as he ascended toward the arena under the watchful eyes of countless spectators.
Zzzzzzt.
The energy barriers activated with a crackling hum. Electric-like energy beams surged, sealing the entire arena inside a colossal cage.
"Any last words?" asked Nangong Longjian in an unhurried tone as he slowly lit a cigarette and exhaled a plume of smoke.
"I'll give you time to say your final words," replied Li Xiaofei, shaking his head.
"Then how about listening to my last words instead?" asked Nangong Longjian, taking a final drag from his cigarette.
Dressed in ancient robes, he looked as though he had stepped out of a painting, yet the modern cigarette in his hand somehow blended seamlessly into the image. It created an atmosphere of lonely detachment.
Li Xiaofei replied calmly, "Go ahead."
Nangong Longjian exhaled a slow plume of smoke and spoke in an unhurried tone, "If I die by your spear today, bury me on Planet M73. Would you?"
M73. A desolate, abandoned world not far from Chongque City. A garbage planet.
"Why there?" Li Xiaofei asked, curious.
Nangong Longjian flicked the cigarette butt away and answered lightly, "Because from there... you can see Earth."
Li Xiaofei froze. The entire audience fell into stunned silence. His words carried a shocking implication. Nangong Longjian was preparing for death.
Does this mean... he actually believes there is a chance he could lose?
Impossible.
He is the King of the Arena.
Why will he entertain the idea of losing to someone who is barely at the Planet level?
In all two thousand four hundred and sixty-five duels before this, Nangong Longjian had never once spoken such words. Not even when facing stronger, more famous opponents.
From a distance, Nan Wushuang lost control. He shouted, "What are you doing?!"
He roared like a madman, his voice filled with rage and hysteria. "Stop wasting time! Kill Li Qingchen now! I want you to cut him apart, piece by piece. Let him bleed dry before he dies! Let him scream in agony! I paid for this!"
In the arena, Nangong Longjian flicked away his cigarette. He grasped the air with a single hand, and a dark-gold saber instantly materialized in his palm. A sharp, unseen force erupted around him. The sheer sword intent was so powerful it felt tangible, slicing through the air.
The moment he held the blade, the King of the Arena transformed. A chilling, overwhelming killing aura radiated from his body. It was so thick and suffocating that it could be seen with the naked eye.
For a brief second, the entire arena darkened. The killing intent Nangong Longjian radiated had devoured the very light itself.
He spoke with a steady voice, "I admire you. But I will not hold back. Since I took the Nan family's money, it’s a matter of principle. If you want to live—defeat me. Do not disappoint my admiration. And most of all... I hope this fight isn’t boring."
The moment his words fell, Nangong Longjian attacked.
Sword light flashed. In an instant, Nangong Longjian became one with the light. His speed was beyond human perception, a blur too fast for the naked eye to track.
Li Xiaofei’s heart pounded.
So fast!
Instinct took over as he raised his spear in a desperate attempt to block.
Clang!
He had blocked it! But the sheer force of the strike sent him hurtling backward. His body was blasted fifty meters away and crashed heavily into the ground.
A single exchange had made the difference in power crystal clear. A wave of gasping exclamations erupted from the crowd.
