Chapter 21 - New Class
"Do you want anything else, Shinji-kun?"
Tsukasa asked, to which Shinji shook his head.
"I can't think of anything else."
"I understand that you live in an old residence that belonged to your grandfather. If you want, I can have it checked and repaired. I can also give you a maid."
"That's not necessary. Although, I would really appreciate help with the house repairs. Due to its age, there are some damages I'd like to fix. Of course! If it's not too much trouble."
Shinji added nervously, not wanting to seem too greedy about it.
"Consider it done. If that's all you want, then you may leave. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to come to me."
Shinji nodded. Watching the teacher, named Rie, leave the room, he was about to follow her when he heard Tsukasa's voice again.
"By the way, Shinji-kun, you have one week to prepare."
Shinji looked at him, puzzled.
"Prepare? For what?"
"The Imperial Academic Exams. I will give you the opportunity to participate in them."
Tsukasa replied with a kind smile.
Shinji still looked at him, confused. Kaori let out a small laugh before explaining.
"Imperial Academic is a title given to the elite of the elite in the academic world. Every school has its own Imperial Academics. Those who hold this title are almost guaranteed a future once they graduate."
Seeing Shinji's surprised look, Kaori continued.
"There is only one way to become an Imperial Academic. You must accumulate a certain amount of merits, which allow you to take the admission exam."
This time, it was Rie who spoke.
"Being an Imperial Academic gives you benefits such as skipping classes, access to restricted areas for other students, among other things. However, you are required to answer to the school board's summons, and you are prohibited from leaving the school until you complete your studies."
Shinji looked at Tsukasa, still confused. He didn't understand why he would offer him the chance to become an Imperial Academic. My God! It was the first time he'd ever heard the term!
He couldn't help but wonder how many changes this world had compared to what he remembered.
"Why me?"
He asked sincerely. He didn't think he deserved so much.
"Why not you?"
Tsukasa returned the question with a smile.
"As you might have noticed, the term 'Imperial Academic' is not well known among the other students. This is because Imperial Academics are chosen by the school board members."
Tsukasa sat in the seat behind the desk. Intertwining his fingers, he gave Shinji a meaningful look.
"I'm not saying you'll become an Imperial Academic. I'm giving you the opportunity to become one. I firmly believe that people deserve a chance to change their lives. Maybe this is the change you need in yours."
Sitting upright and leaning back in the chair, Tsukasa smiled slightly.
"I expect good results. Now, you may leave."
Rie nodded and left the room while pulling a very confused Shinji behind her, followed by a smiling Kaori.
Once they were alone, Tsukasa intertwined his fingers again and rested his chin on them.
"Motohama... Another peculiar character has emerged from that family. I wonder, will he be able to match his predecessor?"
Tsukasa couldn't help but start to have expectations.
...
"Alright, take a seat. We just finished the classroom a little while ago, but I have one more message to add."
One of the students asks about the teacher's words.
"Yes, yes, yes! What message is that?"
"I was about to say it now."
"Ah, you're right. Please continue!"
"Such a quick change."
The class was wrapped in soft laughter after hearing the teacher's comment. Then, the teacher flashed a meaningful smile.
"Listen carefully. Today, I am in charge of someone who will try to gain personal experience in this classroom."
As soon as the teacher said this, the class began to get excited.
As expected, transfer students and special admission students are unusual at any school. Then, the student who had asked a question before asks again.
"Yes, yes, yes! Is it a man or a woman?!"
"It's a man."
The reaction was clearly divided upon hearing the teacher's words.
The boys looked blatantly disappointed, while the girls were quite the opposite, looking very excited, and the students began talking among themselves about the type of student who was coming. However, since the boys weren't that discouraged, they too started getting excited about the same topic as the girls.
"It's good to get excited, but I don't have much time. You'll have a normal class after this. Well, then, you can come in now."
After saying this, the teacher looked at the students with a smile.
"Don't be surprised, okay?"
The students were bewildered by the teacher's words, as if a question mark was floating over their heads. Once they understood the meaning of the teacher's words, Shinji finally entered the classroom while the students tilted their heads.
...
Shinji was really nervous about the speed at which things were happening, but thanks to that teacher, he was more relaxed than at the beginning. He was surprised by how relaxed the teacher had turned out to be. On the other hand, he was now thinking about the type of presentation he should give.
"Hey, you can come in."
The teacher called him to enter as he desperately tried to think about what to do.
"Huh?"
The first thing he felt upon entering was the gaze of the students. In fact, he didn't know most of the students here, which made him feel quite anxious.
On one hand, it was a good start since he should almost know about his previous fame. On the other hand, it was quite problematic to interact with new people at this point.
"Well, then, introduce yourself briefly."
"Y-yes. My name is Motohama Shinji. From today, I will be studying with you all. Nice to meet you."
Shinji bowed his head and then raised it, noticing that the students still didn't seem to react, which made him frown. The teacher laughed at this scene before continuing to speak.
"Kukuku... hey, do you want to stay like this forever? Motohama is worried... It's alright, Motohama. Sit in the back by that window."
"Y-yes."
Under the teacher's direction, he sat in the assigned seat and greeted the student next to him.
"Um... nice to meet you."
"Huh? Oh, yes... nice to meet you too."
The student next to his seat was someone who somehow left a good impression, with short hair and white hair. She wore a choker around her neck.
Many students in this class had dyed their hair and also wore trendy accessories.
As he was thinking about this, the teacher clapped.
"Hello everyone, return to your seats now. The class is about to start."
She said this, but only a minute later, everyone began to move seriously.
...
After that, he blended in with the other students to experience the class. He thought he wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace of the class, but it was nothing like that; the speed of the class was no different from his previous class.
However, the content was quite surprising. He was supposed to take classes with the same content he had learned in his previous class, but the clarity was different. He thought it would be boring, but he actually enjoyed it. They came up with several ideas for teaching, such as using manga and games as rhetorical figures.
And what he felt after taking the class was the sense of distance between the teacher and the students. The sense of distance was exquisite in this classroom. So much so that he felt like he was in a different school. Even though they were on good terms, there was a clear line between the teacher and the students, and he was surprised that they managed it so well.
After that morning lesson, they were now in the middle of the lunch break. His situation had already been explained, so everyone understood that it was just a class transfer.
"Oh, Tobiichi-san. Thank you for the textbook."
"... Hmm, don't worry about it."
Even though he was going to take classes, he didn't have the textbooks for the subject, and the cool-impression girl, Origami Tobiichi, sitting next to him, helped by showing him her textbook.
Tobiichi Origami had short hair, her white hair gave her a cool impression, and her long eyes always seemed half-closed and sleepy. She wore her school uniform in a fashionable way, combined with a casual style and a choker.
At first glance, Origami has a difficult atmosphere to talk to, but she was very kind when she tried to speak with courage. When he thanked Origami, the other students called out to him.
"Hey, hey, there's something I want to ask!"
"What high school did you attend?"

"Have we met before?"
"Are you learning something?"
"Ah, what about club activities?"
"Hey, hey! Do you have a girlfriend?"
"Could it be that you're a model?"
"Uh, eh, um..."
The questions, out of pure curiosity, were something he had never experienced before, and he didn't know how to answer.
After all, transferred students and special admission students are the hottest topics. Although, in reality, Shinji is a student from another class, which made him feel confused because he didn't know what to do, and then a boy student calmed everyone down.
"Hey, hey, you're bothering Motohama, you know? It's still lunch hour, so let's calm down for now, okay?"
The student was a handsome guy with short, dyed brown hair and a friendly smile. He was much better looking than his younger brother or the male model who attended the photo session the other day. Although still below Kiba.
Even though his hair was dyed, he didn't give the impression of being a delinquent. On the contrary, he gave off the impression of being a refreshing athlete.
As he spoke, everyone who had asked him a question apologized.
"Ah, sorry!"
"I didn't mean to do anything bad."
"I'll ask you again after school!"
"Ah, yes."
Everyone apologized, and each one began to move to have lunch. While Shinji was watching them, the student called out to him.
"Sorry. They're just interested in you, including me."
"Eh? Oh, yes. Thanks! Uh..."
"I'm Ryo Igarashi. Ryo is fine. Is it okay if I call you Shinji too? Pleased to meet you."
The boy student, Ryo, said with a refreshing smile. Shinji squinted his eyes unintentionally, feeling dazzled, and Ryo tilted his head with curiosity.
"Hmm. What's wrong?"
"No... it's just dazzling..."
"Eh? What's that, saying something strange?"
Ryo smiled even more dazzlingly. Shinji felt like his eyes were burning.
"Ah, yes. You don't know where the cafeteria is in this school, right? Want to go with me?"
"Oh, actually, I do know where it is, but I wouldn't mind going with you."
"Let's go then!"
What's up with this ikemen? Shinji felt like if he weren't straight, he'd probably fall in love.
"Yes, can I call another friend?"
"Sure."
Shinji replied, and Ryo called his friend.
"I'm Shingo Kurata. N-nice to meet you, Shi-Shinji-kun."
He was a student wearing glasses and seemed somewhat shy in a way. An interesting combination. Shinji couldn't help but feel a bit identified.
He thought Ryo's friend would be an athlete, but Shingo-kun gave off an introverted impression. He had that question in mind, but the mystery was immediately resolved.
"Hey, Shingo! Did you watch 'Super Heavy Machinery God Robo' yesterday?"
"I-I watched it."
"Really!? It was the hottest thing right now! Hey, let me know if there's any other interesting anime or tokusatsu!"
"Y-yeah. Of course...!"
Apparently, Ryo had been taught about anime by Shingo-kun. An ikemen who enjoys subculture. Shinji wondered if he was still at the same school.
When Shinji was looking away, Ryo spoke to him.
"Oh, do you watch anime, Shinji? I started watching it recently, and it's really interesting!"
Ryo is a good guy. Shinji realized that in no time. He thought that if Matsuda stopped being a pervert, he'd get along well with him. He couldn't help but wonder what his friend was doing now.
