Chapter 7 - Invitation from the Devils - (I)

The shock was immediate after Issei's declaration. No one could believe that a pervert like him had managed to get a date. In response to their disbelief, Issei showed them a picture of the girl on his phone. Once again, everyone was stunned.

Normal people would think that Issei had just downloaded a picture of some random girl from the internet, but apparently, the people here were a bit brainless because they believed him and quickly started feeling envious.

Issei was so immersed in his moment of glory that he hadn't noticed the change in Motohama.

Soon, the teacher entered the classroom, putting an end to the commotion and starting the lesson.

Issei sat in his seat and began bragging about the girl to Matsuda. When he tried to do the same with Motohama, his eyes trembled.

"Impossible! Who the hell are you, and what did you do with my friend?!"

Issei stood up and shouted, pointing at Motohama. The whole class stared at him silently, sharing the same feeling.

Motohama, who was diligently taking notes, turned to look at him.

"I ask that you save your questions for a more appropriate time. We are in class."

At Motohama's mature and cold demeanor, the girls melted.

The teacher, having witnessed the exchange, kicked Issei out of class. Issei left, but not before giving one last look at Motohama, who smiled at him with indifference.

In his past life, he wasn't someone who particularly enjoyed Issei's attitude toward his friends or the girls around him. The fact that more and more girls chased after him while all he thought about was boobs was absurd. But, considering the dragon aura he passively emitted, there wasn't much to be done.

When the lunch break arrived, Motohama found himself surrounded by people asking all sorts of questions about his drastic change.

At that moment, a girl with long black hair and glasses stopped at the classroom door.

"Excuse me, is student Motohama Shinji here?"

Recognizing the girl's identity, Shinji was a bit surprised—he hadn't expected them to make the first move. Standing up, he faced the girl.

"Can I help you with something, Shinra-senpai?"

The few students left in the classroom had a shift in their expressions. They felt bitter that a cute girl was after Motohama. But, remembering who the girl was, they were confused.

Why was the vice president of the student council looking for Motohama?!

That was the question on everyone's mind.

Then, they realized something. Despite his change in appearance, Motohama's essence was still that of a pervert.

No matter how much someone changes physically, habits are hard to break, right? Everyone assumed he must have done something perverted again.

Adjusting her glasses, Tsubaki responded.

"I have come to you because the student council president has summoned you. You don't have to worry—you haven't done anything wrong, so this isn't a reprimand or anything of the sort. The president simply has some matters to discuss with you."

"Really? That's good to hear."

Many students were shocked by Tsubaki's words.

What is going on?

Ignoring the confused students, Motohama walked up to Tsubaki.

"Then, lead the way, senpai."

Tsubaki seemed a little stunned as she looked at him, but she soon returned to her stoic demeanor and nodded.

"Then, let's go."

The two of them left the classroom.

Motohama walked side by side with Tsubaki, letting her lead the way, even though he already knew the path from his memories. They walked in silence. Though he wanted to say something, he didn't want to end up angering the other party. He wasn't sure what impression she had of him.

As someone who knew the original work, he had some guesses about why he had been called.

He just hoped the other party wouldn't provoke him.

Motohama was seated in a chair. In front of him, behind a desk, sat a short girl with black hair. Her name: Souna Shitori—although that was a false identity, as her real name was Sona Sitri.

Beside her, Tsubaki stood like a secretary.

It was just the three of them in the quiet room, with two cups of steaming tea.

"Good tea, Shinra-senpai."

Motohama complimented after taking a small sip.

"Thank you. If you'd like more, just let me know."

Tsubaki replied with a polite smile. She was proud of her tea-making skills, though that wasn't something she would openly show to the boy in front of her.

"Student Motohama Shinji. I need your full attention."

Motohama looked at Sona.

In his opinion, she was a girl who could rival most of the other girls in the franchise in terms of beauty. However, unlike the others, she had clearly been nerfed in the chest department.

Sona frowned when she noticed Motohama's gaze. She had a feeling he was thinking something rude about her.

"Alright, Motohama-kun. The reason I called you here is that I want to give you a new opportunity."

Motohama smirked internally. He could already see where this was going.

"Looking at your academic achievements, I can say that you're a good student. And I heard that you've decided to walk the path of righteousness, so as a member of the student council, I have decided to support you..."

Sona glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. She noticed he was paying serious attention, which made her feel satisfied.

Motohama watched her, waiting for her next words.

"What I'm getting at is that I want you to join the student council."

Sona looked at Motohama with expectation. She also knew that no one changes overnight. Motohama might still be a pervert, but as long as he didn't show it openly, she wouldn't have a problem with it. At the end of the day, her goal was to have his power under her control.

She knew it. The moment Motohama set foot in the school, every supernatural being inside detected it. Somehow, that boy had stepped into the supernatural world. But that wasn't the only problem.

The magical signature he was emitting.

His power was at the level of a high-ranking low-class demon, which in itself wouldn't be a problem—except for the fact that two days ago, he didn't even have magic power.

But that wasn't all. For some strange reason, the magic power around him fluctuated. Sometimes, it spiked almost to the level of a newly ascended mid-class demon, only to return to normal. This was something that confused Sona.

For now, Sona could only think of two possible reasons for Motohama's current state:

1. He had somehow stepped into the supernatural world with the help of someone powerful.

2. He possessed a Sacred Gear or some kind of magical artifact.

If it was the first case, that meant he had the potential to become a rising force, backed by someone strong.

If it was the second, that wasn't bad either. No matter how much they analyzed it, they couldn't identify what kind of magical artifact or Sacred Gear it was, which meant it couldn't be something simple, right?

Regardless of the reason, as long as she had him on her side, she was certain she would gain something beneficial.

"I'm sorry, Shitori-senpai, but I'm not interested in joining any club at the moment."

Sona, though irritated, sighed in relief. That meant her rival wouldn't have it easy either.

"I see... Even so!"

Sona suddenly stood up, her purple eyes shining enigmatically. The room had abruptly darkened.

Looking to the side, Motohama noticed that Tsubaki had closed the window and turned on the lights. Her heterochromatic eyes also glowed alluringly. At the same time, he wondered how their glasses managed to shine so brightly even when the light wasn't hitting them directly.

Faced with the girls' sudden actions, Motohama simply adjusted his position in his seat to make it easier to react. Whether it was escaping or fighting, using his power wouldn't be difficult.

Noticing his caution, Sona smiled internally before speaking.

"Don't worry. We don't want to hurt you. We just want to show you our true identity."

"Oh..."

Motohama was surprised. He hadn't expected them to go this far. He would have expected it from Rias, but not from Sona, who was known for being meticulous.

From the backs of both girls, wings similar to those of a bat emerged.

"Do you see the wings on our backs? These wings prove that we are demons. In reality, all the members of the student council are demons. But not like the demons from horror stories. We live just like humans. This is our original appearance. Tell us, what do you think of it?"

"Well, I'll just say that you both look really sexy in that form."

At Motohama's sudden compliment, the girls didn't know how to react. They could tell he was being sincere, which surprised them. A faint blush appeared on both of their faces.

"Well, I appreciate the show. Now, what's next? I need to get back to class soon."

Motohama's indifference to the matter only reinforced Sona's suspicion—Shinji Motohama was already aware of the supernatural world.

"Actually, the reason I invited you here is to propose that you join my peerage."

She then explained to Motohama the concept of a demon's peerage, as well as reincarnation and Evil Pieces, before continuing.

"Just like Tsubaki was human before I reincarnated her using my Queen piece."

Motohama nodded in understanding.

"Motohama-kun, I'm sure you're aware that you possess some kind of special power. With my help, you'd be able to study it in depth."

Motohama looked at her in fascination. Was this what they called listening to the whispers of the devil? He wondered.

Even so, one thing was clear—he could not belong to any peerage or faction. The Gate was something he would make sure to keep secret.

What would happen if he revealed the power of the Gate to any of them? Wouldn't he end up being visited by a curious Demon King?

And if that Demon King discovered they could grow stronger by crossing the Gate, wouldn't a war break out for that power?

Even if no one could cross the Gate without his consent, what if they started hunting him, believing that killing him would give them access to it?

He would have no choice but to escape to another world until he became strong enough to face them.

That sounded like a shitty life.

He did want to become stronger, but he also wanted to live a normal life. There were so many characters he wanted to interact with.

He wanted to save Asia.

Meet Gabriel.

Conquer Serafall.

See Venelana Gremory and Grayfia.

Get a girlfriend.

Give Issei advice to help him grow as a person.

So many things.

He wasn't going to put them at risk just for the minimal benefits of belonging to a peerage.

Motohama stood up, quickly finishing his tea.

"It's a tempting offer. Unfortunately, I'll have to decline again. Now, if you'll excuse me."

"Wait."

Motohama was about to leave, but Sona grabbed his hand.

"I can offer you anything you want. Money, women, power..."

Sona didn't know why, but she felt like she couldn't let Motohama go.

Shinji sighed.

Why was she so persistent?

How many times would he have to reject her?

An idea flashed in his mind. It was time to shake up the plot a little.

"Even if I leave now, you'll just come looking for me again, right?"

Sona nodded with a serious expression.

"Then let's do this. Let's have a chess match. If you win, I'll join your peerage. If I win, you won't bother me anymore."

Both girls looked at Motohama as if he had gone insane.
