Chapter 581: Chapter 581: Rescue Plan

After a simple wash, Jane headed downstairs, grabbed some milk and sheep milk, and spent a few minutes preparing breakfast for Mia, at which point the groggy little Mia began to wake up.

Seeing Shard ready to leave the house, she curiously stood up from the bed, but Shard didn’t plan to take her with him:

“Mia, watch the house for me. Your breakfast is in the dining room, wait for me at home like a good girl.”

“Mew!”

The cat shook its head and trotted down the stairs, following Shard to the first floor. From the top of the stairs, the cat watched as Shard quickly put on his shoes and hurried out of the warm, cozy house into the early morning light that had just begun to break in the east.

Shard first went to the nearby Feather Quill Street and found Dorothy, who hadn’t even gotten out of bed yet.

The landlady, wearing a coat over her nightgown, was determined not to let Shard upstairs. He had no choice but to wait for her to bring down a sleepy-eyed Dorothy. The blonde girl, very conscious of her appearance, wore a cloak to ward off the chill of the early autumn morning. Although her hair was not combed, her beauty couldn’t be hidden.

Dorothy joked with Shard who was standing outside:

“When the landlady called me just now, I thought it was the editors from ‘Steam Bird Daily’ rushing me for my manuscript. What’s the matter so early in the morning? Or, do you want to see my new nightgown?”

Despite being woken up, she was in a rather good mood at the prospect of seeing Shard so early:

“How did the Big City Player go? I haven’t had a chance to check the papers yet.”

“I won, but it’s not important. Get ready quickly, and meet up at Dr. Schneider’s.”

Shard said with a serious expression.

“What happened?”

Dorothy frowned, realizing that Shard must be in big trouble.

“Priest Augustus is dead.”

“What?”

She widened her eyes, now fully awake.

Then, Shard took a carriage to the east side of town, where Luviya rented an apartment. It was six thirty-three, and the girl with purple eyes had only just gotten up.

Since there was no landlady watching the door at Luviya’s rented apartment, she could let Shard into her second-floor room directly.

After opening the door, Luviya, wearing a nightgown not fully buttoned, went to the lavatory to wash up, and told Shard to wait in the living room, thinking that Shard had come to invite her to breakfast:

“Actually, you could have come later, it’s too early now. Lack of sleep is one of every girl’s greatest enemies.”

The girl with purple eyes spoke from the lavatory.

“Something has happened to Priest Augustus, hurry up and get ready, we’re meeting up at Dr. Schneider’s.”

Shard spoke through the door of the lavatory, not intending to linger, and as it turned out, this was his first time entering Luviya’s home:

“I’ll go wake up Dr. Schneider first, be quick.”

“What has happened to Priest Augustus?”

Luviya pushed open the door of the lavatory, no longer in the mood for jokes with Shard:

“Considering the time, wasn’t the Priest just in Midshire Fort City?”

“Priest Augustus is dead.”

Shard said, frowning:

“But not quite dead, there’s still a chance to save him, I need your help.”

“What?”

She too could not comprehend his words.

“What? Priest Augustus is dead?”

Dr. Schneider could not grasp this fact either.

When Shard arrived at Dr. Schneider’s psychotherapy clinic at seven in the morning, the doctor, who was having breakfast, initially wanted to tease him about last night’s “Big City Player” finale, which the tabloid in his hand scandalously dubbed a duel between “the Grand Duke’s lover and the Grand Duke’s own mistress.”

But upon hearing Shard’s words, he lost his appetite for jokes and set aside the newspaper next to his breakfast:

“Detective, so early, you can’t just be here to joke, can you?”

Seeing his expression, the doctor urgently hoped that Shard would say it was all a joke.

“I haven’t even had breakfast myself, do you think I’m joking, Doctor?”

Seeing that Shard had even buttoned his shirt incorrectly and looked all in a hurry, the middle-aged man sitting at the breakfast table covered his mouth in disbelief:

“Is Priest Augustus really…”

“Wait until Dorothy and Luviya get here, we’ll talk about it together.”

He sat down beside the table, glanced at the breakfast of the well-off middle-class doctor, but had no appetite whatsoever.

The doctor, covering his mouth, still found the fact hard to believe. The morning light shining through the window lit up half of the breakfast table, highlighting the newspaper.

Shard’s photo on the drooping page of the table, shaking hands with Mr. Cameron, showed a smug smile on his blurred face. But at the moment, he couldn’t feel the joy of winning the Big City Player just hours before.

Soon, Dorothy and Luviya arrived. In the doctor’s parlor, Shard recounted his dream from the night before in full and swore it was true, not a hallucination.

Because of Shard’s proven reliability in the past, the other three members of the group did not doubt him.

“So you mean to say, Priest Augustus, who had just arrived in Midshire Fort City, is locked up somewhere, in a state between life and death, on the verge of truly dying.”

The doctor summarized, and Shard nodded:

“That’s about the size of it. Midshire Fort is too far from Tobesk, and the danger he’s in is too great, there’s no chance of helping him now. That’s why the first thing he said was that he was already dead.”

“But we can’t just ignore Priest Augustus, no matter what.”

Dorothy said with a look of urgent concern.

Aside from the doctor, she had been with the group the longest, and she had deep feelings for each person here.

“Yes.”

Luviya acted less calmly, pondering for a moment:

“Doctor, notify the Academy immediately and tell them that Circle Sorcerer Luviya Annette, while performing her daily divination, suddenly shattered a crystal ball, and then saw some terrible illusions concerning Lat August the Cleric. I hope the Academy can inform the local Circle Sorcerers in Midshire Fort to ensure the priest’s safety.”

Although they were unable to traverse half the continent to the distant border mountain city, the Academy could. Moreover, the Academy already knew that Luviya’s divinations were sometimes very accurate, so they would take this matter seriously.

“All right, no problem.”

The doctor nodded, standing up to walk towards his desk.

“Besides that, as for the True God Church…”

Shard narrowed his eyes:

“Let’s not alarm the Church for now. The priest is with the Church after all, and the local chapel must have already noticed the disappearance of the cleric. It’s better to let the Academy deal with the Church. Besides, we have no reason to inform the Church that something has befallen Priest Augustus… These issues are not the main reason I sought you out. Actually, I want to personally make a trip to Midshire Fort.”

“What?”

The doctor, who was writing a letter, looked at Shard in surprise, while Luviya frowned slightly and Dorothy asked uncertainly:

“Didn’t you say that you could only go to Coldwater Port?”

Shard had shown her the hidden space beneath the basement.

“Yes, but I can try to go to more places. I need your help, I need luck, to make it to my destination in one try.”

“Wait, I’m still confused!”

Dr. Schneider beside the desk interjected.

“Specifically, using the rare mineral ‘White Stone Crystal,’ I can randomly establish a space transfer passageway from Saint Delan Square to someplace in the world, but it can only be used by the bearer of the ‘Space’ Spirit Rune.”

In fact, The Chosen One, Iluna, could also use it, but she needed to establish her own landmarks.

“So, the cargo of wine from Coldwater Port you gave me recently, and the materials you procured from there… isn’t space transfer extremely dangerous? Did you find some method?”

The doctor suddenly realized what Shard meant and didn’t delve further into Shard’s methods:

“So you need luck, to change this random transfer into a fixed transfer.”

“Yes, is there a way?”

Shard looked at the three of them. If there really wasn’t a way, he would have to try using ‘The Twenty-Sided Die of Destiny’ against the rules again, risking severe backlash from fate.

The space left by the Ancient God was immune to most transcendent effects. Therefore, even using ‘Puppeteer’s Script’ couldn’t affect the destination of the journey; only effects that influenced oneself would work.

Luviya shook her head:

“My divination is ineffective there.”

Divination of the Cost was ineffective not only against gods but also against spaces left by the Ancient God.

“I need to contact my friend at Zaras Literary Academy, I don’t have a way on hand right now.”

Dorothy shook her head.

“There’s no need for trouble. If it’s just luck, I might actually have a way.”

Dr. Schneider, as he passed the letter through the poetry paper to the Academy, casually stated.

“Doctor, I knew that when you met Shard, it was because you used a relic to change luck!”

“No, absolutely not. My friend, whom you also know, Mr. Alan Madison from the Xerxes Higher Medical Academy, has a relic that can affect luck. But any relic that affects luck will certainly demand a price,” he said seriously, looking at Shard.

Shard considered for a moment before nodding:

“If it’s to save Priest Augustus, I’m willing to take some risks.”

“Alright then, I’ll go find Madison and meet up at your house later.”

Dr. Schneider said.

“I’ll go check with my friend in Zaras to see if she can offer any help. Let’s meet up at your house at twelve noon,” Dorothy also stated.

“Then I’ll go home and prepare for the divination. At the very least, we need to know exactly what has happened,” Luviya said with great concern.

Thus, the four of them departed separately. Before heading home, Shard sent a letter to Miss Galina, curious if she had time to meet. Although Miss Galina’s domain was in the County of Saradiel, in the southwestern region of Draleon, perhaps the powerful Witch Council had influence in Midshire Fort as well.

When Shard got home at nine in the morning, he packed some things and was ready to head out to the Tobesk Mining Association to purchase the White Stone Crystal.

But as soon as he opened the door, he saw a carriage stop at his doorstep, and Luviya, carrying a small hand-carry case, had already arrived.

“I’m going to buy the White Stone Crystal.”

“Let’s go together.”

She placed her small box containing the divination tools in the hall of Shard’s home and then joined Shard back on the carriage, which had not yet departed.

As the carriage slowly moved off, Luviya reached out her hand to Shard, who looked at her.

“You know what I want to do.”

The girl with purple eyes said.

Shard smiled and took out a coin from his pocket:

“But this time it’s not a Blood Coin, it’s a new coin that I got last night. Luviya, please help me divine where within Tobesk City I can find the blood of Priest Augustus.”
