Chapter 210: How It All Began (2)

Ryan began to search old records about the hit and run and then he saw the name of Nancy’s friend, Karen, whose testimony in court had tipped the scale on Kimberly’s favor.

That was when he begun to suspect that she was the one behind the letters, he hired a private investigator to find her.

Letter four: You seem to be living so well after abandoning Nancy despite all the promises you made to her.

That night while he sat in his study, thinking about Nancy, the maid, Karen, came in. She brought him a drink.

After he drank it, he felt hot. Strange. He could not think clearly. He didn’t remember anything. The next morning, she told him he had forced himself on her.

"You raped me," she whispered. "If you don’t pay me, I will go to the police."

Ryan knew what it was. He knew she had set him up but also knew it’d be his word against hers if it ever got out, so he paid her to go away.

After she left, no more letters came.

But he still watched the Moores. Waiting. When he heard Kimberly was engaged, he kidnapped her fiance on their wedding day to make it look like he stood her up at the altar.

He told the man that Kimberly was a killer and he threatened to kill the him as pay back for what Kimberly did to the woman he loved if he married Kimberly.

Kimberly killed the only woman he ever loved. So, she deserved to be as lonely as he was since he knew that because of how powerful her family was, she’d never pay for her crime.

Six years later, another letter came with the same handwriting and in the same type of paper but the content was different.

Letter Five: I have your daughter. You need to pay me again. Or I will tell everyone. Karen.

That was when it hit him that she had been the one sending all those letters years ago. It dawned on him that the name was no coincidence.

He had tried to find her to no avail and that was because she had been hiding right under his roof like a rat.

She had betrayed Nancy and tricked him. She had sent all the letters and was now blackmailing him over a child he knew very well wasn’t his own.

He sent his men to find her, but somehow she knew he was after her, so she reached out to his parents instead and told them he was trying to kill her because she had a child for him after he raped her.

Convinced, his mother had taken Genevieve from her and paid her some money, asking her to disappear and never show her face around their family. And with his mother’s help she fled the country.

When Ryan saw his mother with Genevieve in his doorway, he felt cold inside. "That is not my child," he said flatly.

His mother’s eyes blazed. "You are a disappointment, Ryan!" she yelled. "Do you have any idea the stress we went through to clean up your mess ten years ago when you got that other tramp pregnant? We don’t even know what happened to that child and now you do this again?"

"Nancy aborted the pregnancy..."

"No, she didn’t! I was keeping track of her and her pregnancy until her accident and death. She was almost due before she died."

Ryan’s heart skipped a beat and he shook his head, not wanting to believe that she had lied to him just so he wouldn’t worry about her. "You must be mistaken. You don’t even know her. She sent me a text and told me..."

"She didn’t! That was me! I sent the text myself so you would forget all about her. That was the reason we took your phone and we took hers as well so that you wouldn’t be able to reach her even if you get a new phone. She didn’t abort it. And now you’ve made the same..." before his mother could finish he grabbed her neck.

"What are you saying? You deceived me? All these years you made me believe she dumped me?" He asked, eyes red with anger and unimaginable pain.

She couldn’t speak. She was choking and struggling against his hand on her neck.

It wasn’t until the little girl beside her began to cry that he remembered a kid was present and he let go of her.

Ryan could not look at her. He turned away. His heart felt heavy and shattered beyond repair.

For weeks he stayed locked up in his room, wanting to drink himself to death. He wanted to die. He hated himself. He hated his parents and he wanted nothing more than to burn up everything, both himself and his parents. Neither of them deserved to live for destroying Nancy’s life.

And then one day his assistant brought him the news about the scandal over the paternity of Kimberly’s daughter, and what it was doing to the company’s stocks.

The mere sight of Kimberly’s picture and the thought that she had been responsible for Nancy’s death had resurrected every feeling of anger and hatred inside him.

He had decided then that he wouldn’t kill himself until he killed the people responsible for Nancy’s death, and that included his parents with himself being the last.

When he stepped out of his room finally, he had seen little Genevieve at the dining eating with his mother.

"Are you okay now? Everyone has been worried about you," she said, but he said nothing as he headed for the door.

"While you were in there, I’ve been making enquiries. I was told she had the baby before she died. But I don’t know who took the baby or where the baby is. I was told a friend of hers was there," his mother had said making him stop.

Their child was alive? He turned to look at her, and when he saw Genevieve sitting there and staring at him, he thought about Kimberly’s daughter who was around the same age, and that was when he got the idea for the ultimate revenge.

He’d find his child no matter how much or how long it’d take, and he’d take everything from both the Moores and his parents and give it all to his child.

Genevieve wasn’t his child, but she’d stand in place until he found his child. He knew that only her mother could tell him where his child was, so he’d keep her until then.

Ryan’s thoughts were cut into when the driver announced that they were at the hotel.

He intended to remain where he was until he got news of where Callan Quinn was. He wanted to be sure of his next course of action by the time he returned to Westend.

He took a deep breath as he got out of the car and walked into the hotel.

He had nothing against Abigail. She was just unfortunate to have been born by Kimberly Moore.

Asking her to alter her looks had been more because he couldn’t stand the sight of her. She had reminded him of Kimberly each time he looked at her and he had hated her for it.

For her sake he wished she’d stay still and not cause any trouble else he’d have to get rid of her.

She had gotten pregnant just when he had begun to give up hopes of ever finding Karen or his biological child because it had been over fifteen years and there was no trace of Karen.

He had decided to adopt Josh as his own in replacement of the child he had lost, and watching Josh grow had unexpectedly brought him so much joy.

He had been planning to give back everything to Josh and Abigail before Pete told him about Genevieve being blackmailed, and that had been the sign he needed to know that he should put a halt to his plans since he might find his biological child after all.

Now he had an alternative plan in place for Abigail. One that would ensure that everyone was happy at the end of the day. But that was only as long as she stayed put and didn’t put a wrench in his plans as he knew she was trying to.

Now that he knew his son was alive, he needed to act fast. He needed to find him, and bring him home.
