Story Breaker-Chapter 5: First Wave

With no other choice, Yoon Harin began walking across the endless stretch of dunes and sand.

The heat pressed down on her, but before she could handle the discomfort, as she walked a screen materialized before her.

[The first wave has begun:]

[Time limit: 4 hours]

[Enemies Remaining: 30,000]

[Cadets Remaining: 15,000]

Yoon Harin quickened her pace and ran across the desert until she saw an abandoned village in the distance.

When she entered the village, she looked around for anything that could help her. In a nearby building, on the wall, she found an old sword and quickly took it and continued to look for anything else that could help, but she couldn't find anything else, so she rested against the wall, trying to recollect herself.

For some reason, she felt oddly calm about this entire situation so far. Maybe it was because of the information she had gained that made her so calm, maybe it was her simply being serious and trying to survive for Jiho, Yoon Harin really didn't know.

Yoon Harin sighed to herself before getting up once again and began looking around in the other buildings for any useful items but didn't find any, so she headed north to a jungle she saw close by.

When she got close, she was ambushed by three masked creatures; their bodies were a translucent green with dark green splotches within them.

They wore various leaves, vines, and bark on their slime-like humanoid bodies for armor. On their faces, they wore wooden white masks, in different shapes and sizes, but all of them had antlers protruding from the top of their masks. At the center of the masks was a small, dark crimson crystal similar to a ruby.

The creatures charged at Yoon Harin while making a bubbling sound; Yoon Harin used the 'story of the world' to see if she could gain any information as she readied her sword.

[Calamity Analysis: These calamities lean to the side the moment they attack; when they do, they are briefly open for attacks. They are able to regenerate their bodies as long as they have the crystal embedded in their masks. The leaves, vines, and bark they wear can suddenly become as strong as steel when attacked. To defeat these calamities, someone must destroy the mask they wear.]

The three Slime Guardians lunged at Yoon Harin, their translucent bodies rippling as they attacked. Seeing them lean to the side, she braced herself.

*Clang!*

Her sword clashed against two of their strikes while she twisted her body just in time to evade the third. Taking advantage of their opening, she slashed at one of their masks.

*Thud!*

Another Slime Guardian suddenly intercepted her blade, its hardened bark-like armor absorbing the impact.

Yoon Harin quickly recovered and blocked the third Slime Guardian as it attacked. She pivoted and slashed downward, severing one of the creatures at the legs.

The gelatinous limbs wriggled, already regenerating. But before it could fully restore itself...

*CRACK!*

She quickly slammed her blade down its mask, destroying it. The Slime Guardian let out a guttural bubbling noise before collapsing into a formless heap.

The other two Slime Guardians enraged quickly attacked her. At the same time, she jumped back and evaded their attack.

[You have killed the calamity, Slime Guardian]

Yoon Harin prepared herself for another attack, the Slime Guardians would charge once again.

One of them leaned to the side as it attacked, while the other one charged at her.

She quickly swung her blade and managed to hit both slimes, she had chopped off one of the slime's upper torsos and the other one's legs.

*CRACK!*

She quickly attacked and destroyed their masks as they were regenerating.

Yoon Harin was exhausted and confused.

She didn't know how to use a sword but her body moved with the blade as if she were experienced.

She blamed the information she had gained from her skill for her sudden swordsmanship.

She leaned against a nearby tree, resting for a moment, when suddenly she felt a strong headache, and her vision became blurred. Instead of the Command System V2's usual blue color, its current color was red, and she could barely read the words on the screen.

In the distance, she saw smoke rising beyond the treetops and heard sounds of roaring and banging.

Yoon Harin waited until her vision cleared and the headache was gone, then headed towards where the smoke rose from and deeper into the jungle
