Stranger Danger-Chapter 1688: Blood Sun Yin Riders
“Heavens above...”
Everyone gasped involuntarily when they heard Old Guan’s words. “Is it that scary? How did the Valley of Sorrow come to be?”
“That, I do not know.” Old Guan shook his head. “All I know is that you must not shed a tear once you’ve reached the Valley of Sorrow. Otherwise, no one in the world can save you.”
“Got it.” Everyone nodded their head. “So, what about this Blood Sun Yin Riders?”
“The Blood Sun Yin Riders are the scariest and most anomalous Anomaly of them all, though the silver lining is that it only happens once per several years or even a decade—”
Old Guan was just about to explain when suddenly, someone cried out in shock, “Look! The sun’s changing color!”
Everyone subconsciously looked up and saw that the sun was slowly turning red as if encased in a layer of fresh blood.
“Oh no... it’s a blood sun!”
Someone cried out immediately, “Everyone, get off the road, look straight down and shut your eyes. No matter what you hear later, do not lift your heads, do not open your eyes, do not use your spirit, and do not move...”
Whoever the speaker was, he must be pretty powerful as his voice clearly reached everyone’s ears.
“Did you hear that?”
“Yeah...”
Although some people didn’t know what was going on, they did not hesitate to follow the sudden command.
No caravan that dared to travel between the Central Plain and the Western Regions was ordinary. The guards guarding the caravans were battle-hardened and mentally tough, and there were powerful elites capable of turning the tides of battle all by themselves. So, no one was panicking despite their surprise.
“Dammit all! I thought the Blood Sun Yin Riders only happen once per several years or even a decade! How the fuck did I run into it again? Fucking...”
Old Guan cursed under his breath and leaped off the carriage. After blocking his ears, he told the young guards around him, “This is the Blood Sun Yin Riders. First, a bloody sun will appear in the sky. Then, yin riders will pass through the area... The fuck are you guys blanking out for? Do as keeper Zhou says and do not open your eyes no matter what happens. Don’t even try to scan your surroundings with your spirit. Otherwise, the yin soldiers will take your soul in an instant. Understand?”
“Wait, now that I think about it, there are two youngsters at the back, aren’t there?”
It was at this moment Old Guan suddenly recalled something and broke into a run.
“What are you doing, Old Guan?” An acquaintance of Old Guan called out to him.
“There are two kids at the back of the line! I need to warn them!” Old Guan yelled back.
“Are you serious? This isn’t the time to be caring about others!” Someone couldn’t help but speak up.
“It will be fine! The yin riders haven’t shown up yet! It won’t take more than a few moments!”
Old Guan was already gone by the time his words reached the speaker.
“This is a matter of life or death, and he’s playing the good guy? Seriously?” The speaker cursed under his breath but could not be bothered to persuade Old Guan. He had his own things to attend to.
It wasn’t long before Old Guan reached the end of the caravan line. When he saw the young man sitting calmly on the shaft of his carriage and seemingly not aware of the crisis that was about to befall them, he asked, “Young man, did you not hear what keeper Zhou said just now? You need to park your carriage beside the road now!”
“What’s going on, Uncle Guan?” The young man asked politely.
“The Blood Sun Yin Riders are coming! They’re the scariest Anomaly on the Golden Road bar none!”
Old Guan helped the young man guide his horses off the road while explaining in a rush, “I know you and your companion are not ordinary people, but the Blood Sun Yin Riders is not an ordinary Anomaly either. Even Truemen and Grandmasters would die if they’re not careful. You must take this seriously!”
“Anyway, keep your head down and close your eyes. No matter what you hear, don’t open your eyes, move, or scan the yin riders with your spirit, understand? You too, lass Feng!”
“We understand, Uncle Guan.”
Both the young man and the young woman sitting inside the carriage responded in unison.
“Neigh!”
It was at this moment brays erupted from the front.
It sounded ephemeral and illusory like it came from the void.
Whoosh... whoosh...
The next second, cold, bone chilling yin wind blew over the caravans. Everyone shivered despite themselves.
At the same time, the sun in the sky had turned completely red. Even the sunrays were crimson in color. What was once warm sunlight now only elicited chills and feelings of eeriness.
“Here they come. The yin riders are about to appear. Bow your heads and close your eyes... heavens, please let them pass through the area peacefully. Please let there not be a flood dragon’s roar. Please!”
After shouting once at the young man, Old Guan bowed is head, closed his eyes, and muttered to himself.
At the same time, a troop of riders suddenly appeared from the road ahead of the caravan.
The riders were wearing black armor and metallic helmets with red feathers on it. They were also wearing flood dragon masks. Dark green flames burned where the eyes should be. Their faces were hidden from view.
Their mounts were handsome yet strange-looking horses. For one, they were hairless. Instead, they were covered in scales. Their hooves were wreathed in fire, and a pair of horns were growing out of their heads. They looked both mighty and handsome.
The riders moved in an organized and disciplined manner. The rider at the forefront was carrying a banner with no words on it. There was only a gnarly, lifelike flood dragon that looked like it would soar into the heavens even though there was no wind in the sky.
There was no doubt about it. This was the yin riders Old Guan was talking about.
The next moment, the yin riders galloped down the road and toward the group.
As they came closer, the yin wind howled loudly. There were strange noises in the wind. Howls of rage, screams of battle, clashes of metal and flesh.
For a time, everyone in the caravans felt like they were in the middle of a battlefield. Clashes of metal and bloodcurdling screams tortured their ears. The smell of smoke, stench of blood and smell of rot ravaged their noses. Even their flesh was stabbed by a terrible cold that felt like actual blades.
Strangely, the horses of the caravans weren’t affected in the slightest.
Everyone listened to keeper Zhou’s order. They did not look up or open their eyes, much less make any noise. They gritted their teeth and affirmed their minds, refusing to move even a muscle.
However, as the yin riders came closer, the sensations grew increasingly terrifying and realistic. All sorts of terrible illusions began playing inside their heads.
The road was only so big, and the troop of yin riders almost occupied the entire road. It was inevitable that some of them were blocking their path.
As the yin riders approached, a terrified guard subconsciously took a step backward. As if on cue, the yin riders who had been charging straight ahead without paying attention to anything all looked at him at the same time.
“No! No!”
Seemingly sensing his doom, the guard let out a bloodcurdling scream.
Then, something horrifying happened. The guard began shriveling away at a visible rate. In the end, he turned into a dry, withered corpse.
