Stranger Danger-Chapter 1702: Killing The Profound Tortoise
Suddenly, the powerful air currents ceased, and the screaming people in the air fell back to the ground.
“What’s happening?”
The people looked terribly confused despite having escaped the jaws of certain death.
“Why did Lord Profound Tortoise suddenly stop?”
“I don’t know either. It’s so strange!”
It wasn’t just them who were confused. The citizens of the Profound Tortoise City were confused as well.
They had seen the Cyan Martial Profound Tortoise eating humans as a matter of course. They had seen it eating an entire city of people in one powerful inhalation. Not a single human or even animal was left alive in its wake.
Frankly, it was quite the grand and majestic sight. It was easily their favorite spectacle.
They had never seen it stopping halfway though. What was going on here?
The next moment, they saw something that caused their jaws to hit the floor with a resounding thud.
The Cyan Martial Profound Tortoise’s head had fallen off its neck.
The wound was perfectly flat and smooth. It was as if someone had cut off its head with a sword.
That wasn’t all. Menghu’s head had rolled off his shoulders as well.
Even as he died, the man’s face was etched with delight and excitement, cruelty and indifference.
Clearly, he never realized what had happened to him until the last moment.
BOOOOOMMMMM!!!
The next moment, the Cyan Martial Profound Tortoise’s massive head hit the ground and kicked up a massive cloud of sand.
At the same time, an unimaginable amount of blood gushed out of the Cyan Martial Profound Tortoise’s severed neck and head and dyed both the sky and the ground in red.
“Is Lord Profound Tortoise... dead? How... how is this possible?”
“No... no... This is impossible!”
“The city lord is dead... as well...”
“If Lord Profound Tortoise is dead... and the city lord is also dead, then... what should we do?”
......
The citizens of Profound Tortoise City were stunned. The citizens of Sand City were stunned. Everyone was stunned.
No one noticed two people walking out of the city shoulder-to-shoulder.
They were Ye Qing and Feng Qingyou, of course.
In fact, the one who slew the Cyan Martial Profound Tortoise and Menghu was none other than Ye Qing.
Originally, he wasn’t planning to interfere.
The Western Regions were a place where the law of the jungle reigned above all. When in Rome, act as Romans do. That was why Ye Qing wasn’t going to question what he saw or meddle in another region’s affairs.
However, Menghu was going to let the Cyan Martial Profound Tortoise eat everyone in Sand City. That was way out of the line and something he could not ignore.
It was one thing to kill one person, and another to massacre an entire city.
Besides, there were plenty of innocent people in Sand City. How could he ignore their plight and let them all be consumed by a gluttonous, bloodthirsty Stranger?
Ye Qing never hesitated once he had made up his mind. So, he slew the masterminds behind this evil act: the city lord Menghu and the Cyan Martial Profound Tortoise.
Of course, he was aware that his act of killing Menghu and the Cyan Martial Profound Tortoise would probably result in the destruction of the Profound Tortoise City.
However, there was no such thing as a perfect solution in this world, not to mention that these people did not deserve his sympathy. They had enjoyed Sand City’s plight like it was an entertaining show and felt not the slightest bit of pity or sadness whatsoever. They viewed their fellow humans like dogs or ants.
In that case, why not give them a taste of their own medicine? Why not drag them down from the heavens and have them enjoy the life of an ant or a dog?
He did not take a single coin from the Profound Tortoise City though. They were ill-gotten gains, so they should be returned to those they had robbed.
Neither Ye Qing nor Feng Qingyou kept the fate of Profound Tortoise City in their minds after dealing with them. They continued west after leaving Sand City.
Having gotten used to the green and vibrance; innumerable towns and bustling cities of the Central Plains, the endless yellow sand, the lonely columns of smoke, the blazing sun and the scorching environment of the Western Regions offered a unique charm of its own.
The duo traveled westward without a specific route or destination in mind. Every thought and action that passed through their mind, it was spontaneous and came directly from their heart and soul.
If they encountered a city, they would pay it a visit. They would observe their foreign customs, enjoy their delicious food and drinks, and live in their unique facade of red dust for a time.
If they were in the wilderness, then they would sleep with the earth as their bed and the sky as their blanket, admire the moon in the sky, enjoy the cool breeze brushing against their skin, feast on the red hues of sunset, and sate their thirst on morning dews.
Should the humor arise, they would converse with a Stranger until midnight or ride a gust of wind to the nine heavens.
Should the curiosity pique, they would explore an ancient secret or search for a lost miracle.
If there was injustice, then they would slay the demons and play the role of a hero.
If there was cruelty, then they would bring peace with their fists and punish the unkind and unjust.
......
“Is this Calabash City? How did it turn out like this?”
Calabash City was one of the Thirty Six Countries of the Western Regions, and it was very famous even among the named countries.
It was because they owned a well called the Calabash Well.
Legend had it that a celestial who was passing through the area felt unbearably hot. So, he removed his calabash and drank all of the water in the calabash in one go.
After he was done, the celestial casually dropped the calabash on the ground and took his leave.
After the celestial left, water suddenly poured out of the calabash and formed a well. As the well was shaped like a calabash, people called it the Calabash Well.
Clear water kept pouring out of the calabash endlessly. It did not dry no matter how hot the sun was, how dry the sand was, or how many people or animals drank from it.
Not only that, the water of the Calabash Well was sweet and beneficial. One gulp was enough to eliminate one’s fatigue completely. Drinking from it over a long period of time would give one a healthy body that was immune to most illnesses. It was magical.
Although Calabash City wasn’t big, it was extremely prosperous thanks to the existence of the Calabash Well. The city interior was full of greenery as well.
However, Ye Qing and Feng Qingyou frowned the moment they set foot inside Calabash City.
It was because every plant inside Calabash City was wilting. The streets were empty and covered in weeds, dust and sand. The few people who appeared on the street looked sick, thin, and listless. Frankly, they looked like walking corpses.
“Hello, elder. Do you mind if I ask what happened to Calabash City?”
After Ye Qing and Feng Qingyou walked up to an old man, Ye Qing gave him a pat on the shoulder.
The old man was thin as bones and murky-eyed. He had almost lost all of his life force as well. It would not be surprising if he passed away the next moment.
However, Ye Qing’s pat instantly dispelled the deathly aura surrounding him. His complexion slowly grew healthier, and his murky eyes regained their clarity.
“Who... Who are you people?” The old man asked slowly after regaining his consciousness.
“We came from outside. We were going to pay the legendary Calabash Well a visit,” Ye Qing replied. “What happened to the city?”
The old man was a little slow probably because he just regained his mind. It took him a while to understand Ye Qing’s question and grew sorrowful and despairing. “The Calabash Well is gone... gone...”
Ye Qing eliminated the old man’s sorrow, fear and despair with his demonic thought and asked, “What happened to the Calabash Well, elder? Did it dry up?”
