Chapter 1770: Granny Tree

Granny Tree shook her body once, and her flesh fell to the ground earnestly. The next moment, a locust tree burst out into the open.

The locust tree grew with the wind and became gigantic in just the blink of an eye.

The locust tree was sky high and at least dozens of meters wide. Its roots were rooted in the air and winding like snakes or dragons. Its trunk was dark and lightless, and its bark was bumpy and covered in lines that formed some sort of unusual pattern. Its leaves were as big as millstones and covered in blurry human faces.

This was Granny Tree’s true body, the Thousand-Year Ghost Locust.

When the Ghost Locust swayed, an immense amount of ghastly qi surged into the sky and transformed into various ghosts. They clashed violently against the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder.

Of course, the ghosts were obliterated by the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder in an instant. However, more yin creatures and ghastly monsters grew out of the Ghost Locus to block the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder while Granny Tree seized the opportunity to charge toward the Southern Heaven Gate.

However, the closer she got to the gate, the stronger the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder became, and the weaker the ghastly qi of the Ghost Locus became.

Rumble... rumble...

It wasn’t long before the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder pierced through the wall of ghosts and struck the Ghost Locust directly. Countless leaves immediately withered, and the human faces on the leaves wailed horrifically. It was eerie and terrifying.

The Primal Chaos Divine Thunder cared not for their misery though. More lightning bolts descended and overwhelmed the ghastly screams. Countless leaves withered and crumbled into ash under its might. Many branches were snapped in half and burned into charcoal as well.

“Dammit!”

Granny Tree’s face appeared on the Ghost Locust’s trunk. Right now, her face was contorted in fury and exertion. Her earlier arrogance was nowhere to be found.

Granny Tree roared soundlessly but powerfully. As if her call was responded by countless ghosts, gods and demons, multiple layers of dark light rippled out of the profound patterns of her tree trunk and formed the image of hell and the Underworld, Fengdu and the Nether.

Unfortunately for her, the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder easily and instantly shattered the images into pieces.

Granny Tree screamed horrifically as the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder flowed down the tree trunk. Barks kept breaking and falling off the tree.

The Ghost Locust was clearly shrinking as more and more Primal Chaos Divine Thunder struck it.

“Save me, Taoist Gu! Dragon King! Save me!”

Unable to endure the thunder strikes any longer, Granny Tree looked to Taoist Gu and the Southern Sea Dragon King and cried for help.

Clearly, Granny Tree had overestimated herself and underestimated the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder. That was why she had put herself in an unenviable position.

“What do you say, Dragon King?”

Taoist Gu asked while glancing at the struggling Granny Tree. He did not try to save her.

The Southern Sea Dragon King said indifferently, “She and I are strangers.”

Taoist Gu teased him, “She is still a Dao Friend. Are you sure you don’t want to lend her a hand and make some good karma?”

The Southern Sea Dragon King retorted, “You’re the one who shares a good relationship with her. Why don’t you lend her a hand?”

“Rumors! Those are all rumors!” Taoist Gu hurriedly denied the accusation. “She’s a tree, and I’m a human. How could we possibly share any sort of relationship with each other?”

“Besides, I lack the strength to save her even if I want to. It’s not like you don’t know my strength. I am the weakest one out of everyone present!”

The Southern Sea Dragon King did not agree or disagree with that statement. “If she can’t even pass the gate, she would’ve died even if she made it inside. There’s no point in saving her.”

As soon as he finished, the Southern Sea Dragon King manifested his three-kilometer-long draconic body. While surrounded by wind and lightning, he charged headlong into the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder.

Thunder roared, but the Southern Sea Dragon King was the strongest existence in the Southern Sea for a reason. Wherever he went, the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder was scattered in the blink of an eye. Some lightning bolts managed to sneak past his defenses and strike his body, but they were all blocked by his scales. They failed to harm him one bit. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

In just the blink of an eye, the Southern Sea Dragon King had passed through the field of lightning and arrived at the Southern Heaven Gate. All he lost was a couple of scales. He barely broke a sweat compared to White Bodhisattva or Granny Tree.

After that, the Southern Sea Dragon King entered the Southern Heaven Gate and disappeared. He never even looked at Granny Tree throughout the process.

Since the Southern Sea Dragon King was gone, Granny Tree could only beg the one person left at the scene for help, “Taoist Gu! Save me! Save me, and I will repay you one day!”

“Oh, fine. Me and my bleeding heart!”

Taoist Gu hesitated for a moment before letting out a long sigh. The next moment, his body suddenly crumbled into a massive swarm of gu insects. They rushed into the field of Primal Chaos Divine Thunder like an endless, grayish yellow cloud.

The Primal Chaos Divine Thunder ripped apart the grayish yellow yin cloud and killed entire swathes of gu insects with impunity. However, the gu insects seemed as numerous as the stars in the sky. Any hole it created was quickly filled up by even more gu insects.

Not only that, there were a dozen or so oddly-shaped but unusually powerful gu insects entrenched at the center of the cloud.

There was a shiny Six-winged Golden Cicada, a snow white but unbelievably ferocious White Jade Demonic Silkworm, a rainbow-colored, fog-covered Rainbow Poisonous Toad, a pitch black, fire-covered Nether Toad...

They were all infamous gu insect-type Strangers. They were all beyond terrifying.

In fact, Ye Qing noticed that the gu insects were slowly but surely consuming the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder attacking the grayish yellow cloud.

At first, the gu insects turned pitch black and stopped moving as soon as they consumed a wisp of Primal Chaos divine Thunder. Crawling with lightning, it looked like they had died in an instant.

But a moment later, they slowly squirmed and ate another wisp of Primal Chaos Divine Thunder.

A few times later, the gu insects actually adapted to the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder and became immune to its all-destroying power. They began consuming the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder faster and growing stronger over time.

“What incredible gu insects.”

Outside, Ye Qing praised while looking at the gu insects.

Most people would avoid the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder like the plague, but Taoist Gu went against the norm and used it to train his gu insects instead. Even better, his gu insects actually lived up to his expectations and fed on the Primal Chaos Divine Thunder. It was impressive.

By the time Taoist Gu made his way to Granny Tree, the grayish yellow cloud was more or less destroyed. Only a handful of the swarm was still alive. However, the elite gu insects such as the Six-winged Golden Cicada, the White Jade Demonic Silkworm, the Rainbow Venomous Toad, the Nether Toad and more had already adapted to it and were able to roam the sea of thunder unhindered.

“Save me, Dao Friend! Save me!”

Granny Tree begged as the deadly insects approached.

By now, the gigantic tree Granny Tree was before had shrunk to just thirty meters or so. Her canopy was completely bald, her tree trunk was covered in scars, and her roots had burned into charcoal. From the outside, she looked like a tree stump. It was both pathetic and pitiful.

Worry not, granny! This poor Taoist is coming!”

Taoist Gu’s garbled voice appeared from the buzzing of the gu insects.
