Chapter 52: Is She Getting Bigger?

"Silas. Ether can help you." Matilda spoke after noticing Silas’ situation. She turned to Sigmund, then glared at Silas out the corner of her eye. He’d definitely hear her over there.

Silas frowned hearing Matilda’s voice. He clenched his hands into fists, then turned to see her standing at the other end of the room, then asked, "How exactly can she help me?"

Matilda frowned, then pointed at the fissure then the side of her face. Silas paused for some time to muse, then he quickly leapt back and away from the fissure, "Can she do it?"

He’d thought of many scenarios. From running across the world and letting the crack chase him until Sigmund ran out of energy, to using ’disintegrate’ to deal with everything.

Ether, on the other hand, could do something with the excess energy— if it’s really the same as the one continuously reacting in her body —and he would not have to use all that.

’Why would Ether propose that to me though?’ Silas thought in his heart. He believed a catch was there, somewhere, or she’d be better off remaining silent, ’What is the big deal?’

He shifted his glance to Ether was massacring the guards, to the fissure which crept to him then Sigmund and Matilda. He frowned, pondering hard about all these contingencies.

After some seconds, he nodded his head. Silas turned to Matilda, then he dashed across the room towards Matilda. The woman blinked, then Silas smirked, "I can’t be too careful."

He grabbed Matilda before she ran away, spinning around and watching the crack bend in his direction. He smirked at this, then set his gaze on Sigmund, "Ether, deal with all this."

Ether frowned at his call, shifting her glance from the dwindled guards to Silas. She did not remain confused after sighting the flames rushing in Silas direction through that ’crack’.

She roared, dashing past the door in a blink and leaping over the melted stairs. Sigmund turned to stare at her back as she crashed on the ground, but he didn’t bother stopping her.

"I guessed it." Silas scoffed after noticing this. Of course, Matilda had the hidden reason why she wanted Ether to try consuming all that energy, and Sigmund’s confirmed with this.

If Ether absorbing the nuclear combustion reactions worked against his favour, then the guy would have stopped supplying energy. It’d either work in his favour or wouldn’t matter.

"Why are you making such a terrified face?" Silas turned to stare at Matilda’s face, then he smirked. That’s why he’d brought Matilda along, "Is it because you couldn’t break free?"

He’d held with his might, securing the grip with metal. The only way she could escape it was ripping her arm clean off the shoulders, but at that point, she would lose all credibility.

Not like she had a lot in the first place, but she doesn’t know that— yet.

Silas narrowed his eyes as Ether landed at fissure, watching in shock as she shoved her hand into it. The flames danced furiously but as the time passed, its ferocity was wavering.

Soon, the flames shrunk to a fraction of its original size. While Ether absorbed the fiery reaction, steam spewed out of her nostrils, ears and the cracks in her mouth, shrouding her.

Silas frowned the second he noticed her skin peeling off, but he was already prepared. A cold light flashed in Silas’ eyes as he dashed across the room and threw his fist at Sigmund.

With Ether absorbing the energy, the fissure wouldn’t have any power to harm him, but since it was too dangerous for her to handle alone, Silas took a chance to attack the source.

Sigmund’s pupils narrowed as he sighted Silas leaping over the ruined staircase to meet him, but he could either stop supplying the fissure with energy or handle the coming threat.

"Smart move!" Sigmund roared, lifting his his hand from the ground and swinging them to punch forward. He leaped across the ground during this motion, aiming his fists at Silas.

"Thanks!" Silas roared as his fist connected with one of Sigmund’s, leaving the second to continue further to slam into his guts. Silas grinned, vomiting blood all over the ground.

Matilda frowned, feeling the liquid splatter across her skin. Her heart raced as Matilda lifted her trembling gaze to glare into Silas’ face, "You didn’t use a skill to defend yourself?"

There could be only one reason for that— Matilda thought to herself as she shifted her gaze from Silas to Sigmund. He wore a horrified look on his face when he stared at his arm.

His skin was peeling off into the air, scattering into burning atomic particles. It spread a little too fast for him to react, and by the time he tore his hand from Silas’ grip, all was lost.

From his skin down to the marrow, everything up to the sockets of his shoulder, caught in Silas’ attack was disintegrated. Nothing, not even a drop of blood, remained of that arm.

"The fuck is this?" Sigmund staggered back, grabbing at his arm, but there was nothing there. He shifted his trembling glance to Silas, who had his hand stretched out, "Incredible."

"Isn’t it?" Silas scoffed, pointing his palm at Sigmund and watching him take trembling steps back, then he hunched over and wheezed, vomiting blood on the ground, "Oh, shucks."

He’d taken that hit and it damaged some internal organs. Although he managed to take one of Sigmund’s hand, he also took his own share of damage, ’It was too slow for comfort.’

If it’d just been a little faster, then he could have taken a lot more than Sigmund’s hand. Sadly, Sigmund was still a high-tier superhuman, and taking him out would not be so easy. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Just as Silas cracked his neck, preparing to have another go at Sigmund, a loud scream sounded throughout the room. He turned around to see Ether thrashing about on the floor.

"Is she... increasing in size?" Silas asked as he edged closer to Ether who was enveloped in a thin layer of steam, listening to the sharp a sizzling sound as he skin turned bright red.
