Strongest Demigod System-Chapter 111: Mark of The Fallen
"Wait! You're taking too much Essence! I can't maintain this for long!"
~Quiet, mortal! I am fulfilling the duty that had been granted to me millennia ago by my lord. I am the Radiant Sun on the Mountain's Edge! The protector of the Immortal Veil! And I shall not let this poison remain within the veins of the world!~
The runes carved into the air began to spin with intensity, and the air pressure in the room grew into gale winds that threw everything back!
Azrael slammed the massive shield into the ground in front of him and stabbed his Oathkeeper behind it to make sure that the wind didn't carry him away!
The runes on Jahosabeth's lance finally slowed their movement as they aligned with one another, and once they stopped, Jahosabeth stabbed his lance forward into the center of the runes!
Thre was a beat of silence as everything seemed to pause, and then the world turned white as the runes unleashed pure, unstoppable power!
SHWOOOOMM!!!
It was like the cry of a Divine Phoenix tearing across a mountain range.
Like the power of a Forgotten god being unleashed upon his transgressors!
A beam of light, scorching hot and unbelievably powerful, erupted from the runes like the wrath of heaven itself.
It flew straight for Azrael, and Azrael felt it long before it reached him.
The radiant sun.
SLAM!
The light slammed into the oval shield, and Azrael pressed his shoulder against the shield and pushed hard!
The heat surrounded him, scarring his body and forcing his blood to begin boiling under the surface of his skin!
Blisters grew on his arm and his mouth ran dry as the intense heat threatened to kill him!
But at the same time, the [Shard of Aridite] worked hard to make sure that he didn't die!
The artifact reversed the damage in real-time as Azrael pushed with all his might against the rage of the light! frёewebnoѵēl.com
The light and heat flew past the wall behind Azrael and into the mansion proper, leaving a large gaping hole in the foundation and making all the demigods evacuating outside the mansion stop in shock as they wondered what was going on.
The roof was coming down and the house's foundation was failing!
But still, Azrael held on!
His hands were burnt!
His legs were burnt!
His hair was burnt!
And on his face, there was a large scar that had formed from his boiling blood!
His teeth were grit so hard, he could hear them cracking under the pressure!
But still, Azrael held on!
"RRAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!"
Azrael released a deep guttural cry; an animalistic sound of desperation that could only be unleashed by the most anguished creatures!
The pain blinded him, and he saw nothing but the white-hot, all-encompassing fire surging past him and burning around him! It was torture unlike anything Azrael had ever experienced before!
His mask had broken in half at some point during the fight and the other half was slowly starting to melt off his face due to the heat.
But then, just as quickly as it came, it went.
The heat died out and the intense flames fizzled out from existence.
The storage facility was on fire, and the flames blocked the large wall behind Azrael, preventing anyone from entering the room!
Azrael listened as the fallen Angel began to talk.
~Alas, I suppose this is as much as the mortal is capable of providing. It's a shame that I could not destroy you once and for all.~
It was out of Essence.
This one thought was like a spark that lit a massive fire within Azrael's heart, and he felt adrenaline fill his body in waves!
His hand tightened around the Oathkeeper as he tossed the large shield to the side!
It was only going to weigh him down!
Azrael surged to his feet quickly and bolted forward like a madman!
The Fallen Angel was shocked by Azrael's sudden charge.
It was already beginning to vanish from the mortal plane with its feet turning incorporeal and transparent, but its hands were still capable of interacting with his world, so it brought its large lance forward in an attack that would have skewered Azrael!
But with how pumped full of adrenaline he was, Azrael reacted even faster than that, barely moving out of the way of the thrust!
The lance stabbed through Azrael's side, leaving a large gash that would have taken him down if not for the [Shard of Aridite] beginning to heal it!
Azrael leaped off the ground with his katana held above his head and he released a cry so animalistic that it made even the Angel flinch in shock!
"DIE!!!!"
The angel had no shield and its lance was still outstretched, preventing it from using it to block Azrael, so the only thing it could do was to bring its severed arm up in a sloppy defense.
But it was too slow.
Azrael slammed into the Angel's chest and his sword dug deep into its heart with the force of his anger!
Azrael's teeth were bared, and there was blood and soot on them, making him look like a feral monster rather than a human.
The half-melted black mask and the sheer aura of terror present in Azrael's body at that moment gave the Angel the impression that this was no mortal.
It was a demon right from the bowels of hell.
A creature that was not born to be in this world.
The Angel let go of its lance, allowing it to fall to the ground before it brought its hand forward and grabbed Azrael by the shoulder!
Sizzle~!
Azrael screamed as a searing heat spread across his entire body from where the Angel touched him, but the Angel refused to let go as the heat grew into something unbearable!
Azrael twisted his sword into the angel's chest in an attempt to make it let go, but the angel didn't even seem like it registered the attack as it spoke.
~I have marked you as my enemy, young devil. An enemy to all beings of Extinguished Light. You have fought well, and you may have won this day. But I shall wait for you in the place beyond this one. In the first circle of the Celestial Zone. At the veil of the Immortal Celestials, we shall do battle once more. And this time, I shall face you with the full might of my power. You would do well to grow stronger before that day, so our battle may be spoken of even in the highest of heavens. ~
The Angel allowed its hand to fall away from Azrael's shoulder, and Azrael pulled his sword out and fell back to the ground!
Azrael was breathing heavily, and the pain in his shoulder seemed to be getting worse.
He looked at it and he saw an intricate pattern burning on his skin like something hot had been used to carve it into him!
The [Shard of Aridite] didn't seem like it could help with the burns, so Azrael just had to bear it until it went away on its own.
Azrael turned back to the Angel and he saw it looking back at him with the same blank expression as before. In the center of its chest, where Azrael had stabbed it, there was a large hollow hole; like its heart had been taken from it.
Jahosabeth said nothing more as its Essence finally ran out, and with that, it vanished from the mortal plane in a spray of blue light, taking its shield and lance along with it.
Azrael's harsh breathing finally began to slow, and he swallowed heavily before he fell back to the ground and succumbed to all the pain.
