The captain of the class was always going to have eyes on him no matter where in the school he was. Azrael never liked attention, and this was only going to make it harder for him to do anything without having eyes on him.

And since Azrael was not liked by many of the students, things would only become more tense in the classroom if he tried to give out orders as the leader.

What the hell was this?

Azrael put his hand to his face tiredly while thinking about how he could get out of this.

Azrael couldn't just say that he didn't want the position. Because even though it was going to be troublesome, it was still going to bring him a lot of benefits.

And once the school gave a captain position to anyone, they wouldn't retract it unless the situation was very dire.

Basically, the school's belief was that anyone could be a leader so long as they worked hard enough at it.

"I'm his assistant?"

Jane's voice came out in pure disbelief after hearing what Scar had to say, and Scar raised his novel and shook it at her like he was trying to explain something basic to a child.

"No, no, no. The word isn't 'assistant', it's 'vice'. You're going to be the person who steps in for Azrael here when he's packed with more important tasks. You hold the same authority over the students, but you will be expected to follow Azrael's orders in everything."

Scar then turned to the rest of the class.

"Well, since we're done with the training, you all are excused. Go get a meal, get some rest and try not to do anything stupid over the weekend. Remember that next week will be a lot harder than this one, so be ready for that too. Azrael, Jane, come to my office before you leave. I'll give you a rundown of what you'll be doing as the class captains. Till we meet again, killers."

Scar turned and started to walk out of the room while burying his nose in his novel.

The students began to murmur amongst themselves as they slowly left the room as well.

"We have to listen to Azrael? Is this for real?"

"A child of darkness isn't going to tell me what to do. I'm telling my parents about this."

"There's no way this school will agree to this. They'll definitely change it soon."

"Man, I feel kind of bad for Jane. You know how much she hates to lose. Imagine losing to someone without a God Aspect."

"Dude, you lost to him too."

"Well, yeah, sure... but hers is much worse. For me, it wasn't even close so I don't feel anything. I can't even imagine how bad it must hurt to come that close and not be good enough."

"Shut up, dude! She can hear you!"

"Shit!"

Jane was still sitting on the floor at the end of the obstacle track. Her head was bowed and the dangerous aura around her prevented anyone from getting close to her.

Jane could hear everything that her classmates were saying about her and their words threatened to fuel Jane's anger. Jane had to struggle to control herself.

She couldn't ruin her reputation any more than she already had.

Jane got up from the floor after a few seconds and dusted herself off. She spared a glance towards Azrael, who was still catching his breath, and Azrael raised a brow when she spoke to him.

"I'll see you in Mr. Scar's office."

And then she was gone.

Jane walked out with her head held high and no sign of defeat on her body. If anyone saw her then, they would never know what she had just been going through.

Azrael stood up and dusted himself off as well. A figure came up to him from the side and he turned to see Henry standing close to him. Azrael asked him what he wanted, and Henry just shook his head.

"It is nothing. Your strategy for the competition was a sound one. I'll look forward to your commands in the upcoming interclass contest."

Henry started to walk away and Azrael just clicked his tongue. Azrael now had to deal with a lot more trouble since he was the captain of the class.

Not only did he have to plan out strategies and teams with the teacher, but he also had to make sure that the students were all kept in line for the next year.

Azrael couldn't do all that while also handling his personal business. It was definitely going to tire him out after some time. And in situations like these where someone ends up with too many responsibilities, it usually results in the person being less efficient in one of them.

Azrael couldn't afford to be any less efficient in his life.

Stab!

A small stab made Azrael flinch slightly, and he looked down to see a very small discoloration spreading out from his glove and onto his wrist.

The Necrosis was still spreading and it was only going to get worse if he didn't get a kill soon.

'I have to hurry up.'

Azrael grit his teeth as he pulled his glove up higher so that it covered the rot spreading across his wrist. Thankfully, there were no other students in the gym, so no one noticed Azrael's discomfort.

Azrael clenched and unclenched his fist to make sure that the pain had subsided, and once he was sure that it no longer bothered him, he left for the bathroom.

That day, after he was done freshening up, Azrael went to see Scar along with Jane and he learned what he was going to be doing as the captain of the class.

The tasks weren't as numerous as Azrael thought they would be in the first place.

The most tiring part of being the captain was going to be the formation of teams for the monthly inter-class competition and leading the teams to carry out tasks.

Other than that, Azrael's tasks were going to center around making sure the students in class didn't step out of line and giving Scar a report of anything that went wrong. Azrael was basically a glorified servant for the teacher.

Jane stood rigid throughout the meeting and didn't speak a single word. She didn't look irritated or even angry, her facial expression was agreeable, and she had reverted back to her perfect persona from before. But Azrael knew Jane better than most and he could tell that she was still seriously affected by what happened.

Jane was a perfectionist whose life had been moving according to her wishes for a long time now. She hardly ever lost, and when she did, it would usually be against insurmountable odds.

Losing with such a small margin like this was definitely affecting her.

Once Scar was done giving them their orders and excusing them to go home, they walked out of his office. There was a woman coming towards them from the end of the hallway, and she waved at them both with a smile before heading into Scar's office.

"Scar-Scar, I'm back~! Did you miss me!?"

"Terra, you bitc-"

The door closed behind the both of them, preventing them from hearing the rest of the conversation, and Azrael put it out of his mind as he saw Jane looking at him with a serious expression.
