The Grim Reaper’s scythe cut across Gillian’s neck, and Gillian’s entire body suddenly went limp as she began falling to the ground. Jason caught her body and held her up, and he watched as a smoky substance began to flow out from Gillian. The smoke formed into a translucent version of Gillian’s body, and the Grim Reaper reached out and carried the soul before he cradled her in one hand like a father holding his child. The Grim Reaper stared down at Gillian with an unreadable expression on its face, but when it turned to look at Jason, Jason could immediately see the anger returning to its expression!

"You and I have a score to settle, boy. You have made a fool of me for the final time, and on the day you finally come into my domain –"

"Yeah, yeah, you’ll torment me and torture me, and cast my soul into the depths of hell to burn for eternity. You already told me all this before, old man. Just get the hell out of here."

The Grim Reaper’s entire body began to vibrate with anger when he heard Jason speaking to it so disrespectfully, and it suddenly lashed out with its scythe!

The scythe cut through the air like a guillotine, but it suddenly stopped less than an inch away from Jason’s neck, and Jason smiled! Jason wasn’t afraid of this bastard because he knew the Grim Reaper only had power over the dead! That was the reason why the Grim Reaper was always saying, ’when you come into my domain’ or ’on the day I gain your soul’ to Jason! Because as long as Jason was alive and he still had his soul, then the Grim Reaper didn’t have any power over him, and he couldn’t even touch him! Jason glanced at the vibrating scythe with a raised brow before he turned back to the Grim Reaper and spoke nonchalantly.

"Save your energy for all the other souls you have to take care of. There are a ton of Machina coming your way, so you’ll be really busy for the foreseeable future."

Jason looked down at Gillian’s prone body, and his eyes softened as he spoke to the Grim Reaper.

"And make sure you take good care of her, you old bastard. If I hear her soul crying out to me for help, then I’ll come down there and beat the shit out of you."

The Grim Reaper loomed over Jason with impossible, unstoppable power, and Jason stared right back at it with the impassive face of someone with nothing to fear. Eventually, the Grim Reaper looked away before turning around to leave, and as the darkness began to melt away, the Grim Reaper gave some final words.

"Ensure you do everything in your power to remain alive, Jason Marc. Preserve this finite existence of yours with all your might. Because on the day you die..."

The Grim Reaper never bothered to finish its sentence, and it just allowed the tense silence to persist for a few seconds. Its body was literally vibrating from the anger it could feel, and Jason clicked his tongue in annoyance as the Grim Reaper finally left and the darkness vanished from around him. That bastard just liked acting tough.

Jason was finally transported back to the large field of flowers where he had been standing, and he looked down at the dead body of Gillian that was still in his hands. Normally, Jason would have been thinking about reviving Gillian using his Necromancer ability, but he knew that it wasn’t possible since the Grim Reaper had claimed possession of her soul. And even if it was, Jason didn’t think he would be able to do it. It just wouldn’t feel right.

Jason blinked in surprise as he looked up to see multiple tabs opening in his system, and when he scanned over all of them, he noticed that some of the tabs were from as far back as when he had first been bitten by Gillian.
