Strongest Scammer: Scamming The World, One Death At A Time-Chapter 29: A Lost Bet And A New Chance
Chapter 29 - A Lost Bet And A New Chance
Han Yu stared at them, then at the charge of 'indecent exposure' on the register.
"So let me get this straight," Han Yu said slowly. "You lost all your money, bet your clothes, lost those too, and then got arrested for flashing the entire tavern?"
Dan Hu coughed awkwardly. "Uh... pretty much."
Han Yu exhaled sharply. "You two are unbelievable."
Fatty Kui wailed. "We were framed!"
"If it weren't for his threats! There's no way I'd play with that freak," Dan Hu denied. "But he demanded it and said that we could leave, but we'd be crawling back home."
"Shit... should've expected that," Han Yu muttered.
The man was hot-headed and well-known in town. He had been to jail many times but always managed to get bail. It couldn't be helped; he was a strong hunter and at the Early Stage of the Qi Refining realm.
A cultivator.
"Please, you have to get us out of here!" Fat Kui pleaded as he stood up, his rag almost falling off.
Han Yu turned his head, avoiding a sight that might traumatize him. "Shut up, Kui. I'll get you out of here before you traumatize the whole jail with your bare ass."
Dan Hu's eyes lit up. "You have a plan?"
Han Yu smirked. "No. But I'll think of something."
The two groaned in unison.
"Hey, at least you've got something to cover you this time," Han Yu teased.
Fatty Kui sighed. "As if."
Still, hearing what the two had done, Han Yu doubted whether Dan Hu had become as stupid as Fatty Kui.
"You two should've just crawled back. At least you'd have saved your dignity—along with my money that I'll probably have to pay," Han Yu said, not amused at all.
"It shouldn't be that much though, right? The punishment for it shouldn't be too severe. Besides, even the guards know what Ox Hand is like. They should consider it," Dan Hu reasoned.
"How did he cheat anyway? I thought you two would figure it out," Han Yu was a bit confused.
As far as he knew, Dan Hu was skilled in every trick in the book and had a decent sleight of hand. Fat Kui might not be as good, but his dumb face made it easy for people to fall for Dan Hu's schemes.
"That's the thing, I can't tell at all," Dan Hu replied. "I'm sure I sneakily switched the card so that he would fail right at the start, but somehow he gave up his good cards and got just the right ones to defeat me."
"Did he have help? Someone standing behind you telling him your cards?" Han Yu wondered.
"Nope, wouldn't be possible. We were sitting against the wall just like always," Fat Kui added.
"Hmm... what could it be?" Han Yu wondered before a realization struck him. "It couldn't be... Spirit Sense?"
"Spirit Sense? And that muscle-headed man?" Dan Hu was astounded. "Isn't that something only really smart people who have great control over Qi can do?"
"Yeah, like our Han Yu!" Fat Kui tried to butter him up, but the boy didn't fall for it.
"It is possible. Maybe he learned just enough to read the cards without seeing them?" Han Yu guessed.
"Shit, no wonder he was bragging so much," Dan Hu said, feeling pissed. "He probably used that method before too."

"Bragging? About what?" Han Yu asked.
"That guy was bragging to everyone that he won big earlier. Won a bet against some rich merchant in the city and got a pill," Fat Kui replied.
"A pill? What kind?" Han Yu asked curiously.
"Uhh... what was its name?" Fat Kui struggled to recall.
"It was the Vital Wave Charge Pill," Dan Hu remembered clearly.
"What does it do?" Han Yu asked. "Did he talk about it?"
"Of course! He was even showing it off," Dan Hu said. "It's some great pill that can help one break through two to three Body Tempering Stages in one go."
"If only we could have that pill. We'd be so strong," Fat Kui yearned.
"Wait, what!?" Han Yu's eyes lit up as soon as he heard about it. "That pill! Yes! That's it! That's what I need!" He was now excited.
"No way, you want to steal that pill from Ox Hand?" Dan Hu was astonished. "He'll break your neck before you get close."
"Not steal, win," Han Yu corrected. "I just have to make a bet and win it." He spoke with full confidence, as if it were a given.
"With his abilities? Hah! It would be easier to steal the underwear of the town head's wife," Dan Hu laughed.
"I got a plan," Han Yu replied.
"And you think he'll fall for it?" Dan Hu asked, taking the idea more seriously. His friend had fooled Qi Refining realm cultivators before, so he reckoned it might just be possible.
"Yeah. I got something that's worth more than that. He'll definitely fall for the temptation," Han Yu said, thinking of the pearl he had in his pocket.
"Damn! We'll be rich then, won't we?" Fat Kui said.
"It won't be for selling. I'll be eating it," Han Yu replied. "I need to reach the Eighth Stage of the Body Tempering realm this month."
"Why so fast? We can just sell it for now. You can reach that stage later on your own anyway," Dan Hu said, confused.
"No... the sect recruitment will be happening within a month now," Han Yu shook his head. "They just posted the notice today."
"Damn, so early?" Dan Hu hadn't expected that either.
"Yeah. So I need to hurry up, or I'll lose my chance," Han Yu said, urgency clear in his voice.
"Plus there's four sects doing their recruitment at once this time." Han Yu added.
"Four sects? Not just the copper cauldron sect?" Dan Hu asked.
"Yeah, the Solitary Edge Sword Sect and Soaring Tiger Saber sect are doing it too, along with some Twin Leaf Peak sect." Han Yu answered.
