Struggling as a Villain-Chapter 295 294- Hero vs Villain(2)
The battlefield was once again swallowed by chaos. Screams tore through the air, clashing with the deafening roar of steel against steel. Everywhere, blood stained the ground, soaking into the dirt as warriors fell one after another.
Blades clashed, shields shattered, and arrows rained like deadly hail. Smoke and dust choked the sky, turning day into an eerie twilight. Soldiers charged, some with fearless cries, others with desperation carved into their faces.
A swordsman swung his blade, cutting down an enemy, only to be struck down himself a moment later. A mage hurled fire into the fray, his spell lighting up the battlefield like a second sun—before a spear found his chest, snuffing out his magic in an instant.
The ground trembled with the force of the battle. Warhorses reared and trampled the fallen, banners were torn from their poles, and the scent of blood, sweat, and fire thickened the air.
This was no fight. This was a slaughter. And in the heart of it, destiny was waiting to be forged.
In the middle of everything, two individuals stood. They have been silent ever since they appeared on the battlefield.
Atheris was showing no sign of getting involved with the battle, nor was she letting her presence become a hindrance to the people around her. James has already recovered from the damage Richard dealt with and is now peacefully sleeping in his mother's embrace.
Zulcriz, as well, was not interfering with the war, since he trusted his successor. He knew that until Richard was standing he could just lean back and relax.
Back between the two Apostles,
"You look tired," Richard taunted. "That sword slowing you down?"
Ethan growled and swung, aiming for Richard's side. But Richard was faster. He stepped back, the blade missing by inches. Before Ethan could recover, Richard struck—his staff cracked against Ethan's wrist. Pain shot up his arm, his grip faltering.
Richard didn't stop. He spun the staff low, sweeping Ethan's legs. The ground vanished from under him, and he hit the dirt hard, the air forced from his lungs.
"Too slow," Richard said, slamming the butt of his staff into Ethan's ribs. Ethan gasped, rolling to his side, his sword slipping from his fingers.
Richard didn't miss the chance and shot a barrage of spells in his direction.
In an attempt to catch his sword, Ethan failed to block all the attacks.
"GAAAH!" A cry resonated as the flames Richard unleashed were laced with the Darkness he received from Zulcriz—a congregation of Aembr making Ethan's divine essence flicker.
The nearby apostle who heard the cry tried helping Ethan by attacking Richard.
However, "Fool." Richard simply extended his staff, the sudden increment of its size taking the ambusher by surprise.
And before the apostle could have moved away,
*CRACKLE*
The lightning danced through the staff before completely consuming the man—turning his body into ashes within seconds.
Richard pulled away his weapon and side-stepped—making Ethan completely miss his mark, as his sword landed on the spot where Richard stood a moment ago.
Richard was constantly using Perceptive Burst; that's why missing such a heavy sword down slash was nearly impossible for him.
In retaliation, he rotated the staff on his palm and struck it on top of Ethan's shoulder.
The emissary of light groaned before he released the sword, and lunged at Richard with his fist cocked.
Richard also removed his hold from Ruyi Bang and launched his fist toward Ethan.
*THUNG*
The shockwave upon collision was tremendous as the nearby soldiers fell to their butts. Dust and debris went flying away, as the ground trembled under the strength of the two entities.
The two individuals were then involved in a first fight. The combat they showed was nothing one could learn through indoor training. Each move they showcased, their battle instincts and the response to every attack, every single trait they have earned through their experiences.
The sun was nearing the horizon, both sides had received significant damage, and looking at the two Apostles battling, one could tell who had the upper hand.
The Light was getting consumed by the Darkness.
"Gaaaah!" Ethan roared as he forced a frontal kick towards Richard.
However, the redhead easily predicted the move, and after sidestepping, he kicked Ethan's other foot with enough force to make him stumble.

The boy fell to his knees, his condition worse than before. His breathing was unsteady and despite the overflowing ether, he looked exhausted.
"Your conflicted thoughts have caused you this defeat," Richard spoke as he stood with his staff raised and ready to launch another attack which most probably would take Ethan down.
For the first time, after she descended to the mortal realm, Atheris frowned as she turned towards Ethan.
She could tell that her will and Ethan's reluctance had caused the boy to fight two battles at the same time…and he was losing both of them.
Zulcriz remained standing, his expression unchanged as he prepared for any movement from the Goddess.
Richard didn't receive any response from his nemesis, so he was about to end the battle. When suddenly,
"No!" Eleanor jumped towards him, holding daggers and attempting to murder him.
Richard easily dodged the dagger and drove his fist into her abdomen.
"Kuh!" The girl gasped, air was knocked out of her lungs as she limped back.
Eleanor might be mentally strong, but physically, she couldn't even win against the weakest apostle.
Richard coldly looked at the girl, "How can I forget about you. The one who has targeted me and my loved ones so many times."
The flames around Richard made the ground melt, and the sudden outburst made the nearby apostles back off.
Eleanor was clutching her stomach, as she muttered, "I did…what was needed to be done. The Death God needs to disappear. Otherwise, we all will die."
Richard snarled before he raised his hand—the crimson flames ready to consume anything it touched.
However, before he could have attacked her,
"Huh?"
Ethan suddenly appeared before Eleanor and took the burn.
Richard and Eleanor were both surprised by his sudden intervention.
Eleanor's eyes turned moist, as she slowly called out, "E-Ethan…"
The silver head glared at her before voicing, "I didn't save you because I pitied you…I just wanted to remove the massive misunderstanding you have about the Death God."
Eleanor was baffled, but before she could say anything, Ethan shouted, "Tell me, oh the Supreme One…just why exactly are we supposed to kill the Death God? And until you don't tell us, I won't move an inch from here, even if it takes my life!"
