Summoned to a Fantasy World With a Modern Military System-Chapter 71: An Unseen Solider
"To be completely honest with you, I am a lot astonished to see that you found out that the tent was a trap," Randolf said.
"I'm truly impressed, Lady Revoltstar," the sarcasm in his voice was clearly visible.
"Well, that just goes to show how terrible you are at making traps. A red tent, really? You can do a lot better than that," Luna replied.
"Having your soldiers do dark patrol was a creative idea I'll admit, but it doesn't really work out how you want when they are already tired to death after coming from a battle."
"And that is not even considering the fact that they just saw their brethren turn into monsters and then die by the hands of the monster their own commander summoned," she added, scoffing Randolf as she glared at him.
"Oh my, you sure speak some sharp words. Leave this old man some slack," Randolf replied, laughing. He seemed unusually relaxed for the situation he was in, as if he wasn't even taking Luna and the threat she presented seriously.
"The rumours about you aren't too far off from how you actually are, I see now," he said. "Come to think of it, this is the first time we're meeting face to face, isn't it?"
"Yes, yes it is. And I hope it is the last as well," Luna replied, her eyes narrowing.
"Scary scary," Randolf said, pretending to be scared by her words and backing off a step.
Seeing his behaviour she sighed. She knew through Lishia that Randolf was a scummy person, but she never expected for it to be this to this extent.
This was utterly disappointed in him and felt ashamed at the fact of having him as an enemy.
"Well, well, it's fine. It doesn't really matter if you found out it was a trap or not. It's not going to change the end outcome anyway," Randolf said, this time his voice was more serious, and he had straightened his posture.
As he spoke those words the shadows all around them began to move.
Dark shapes detached themselves from the sides of tents as some came from behind the little tents while some came from behind the supply wagons.
Armored soldiers, and dozens of them at that emerged from the darkness. They formed a tight circle around her with their swords drawn as the flickering firelight glinted off their helmets.
Luna was completely surrounded. Seeing that Randolf's smile widened.
Luna glanced at the ring of soldiers before she let out a small, and almost bored sigh. "This isn't enough to stop me, Randolf. You and I both know that quite well."
Randolf just laughed. It was a short, sharp sound. "On your own? After the day you've had? I think it's more than enough. Kill her."
He commanded, with his instructions being short and decisive. There was no room left for speculation.
The soldiers yelled at the same time with now what was practically a wall of steel and anger rushing in at her. The sound of heavy armored boots thundered toward her.
However, Luna didn't panic. Instead, she just let out a soft sigh as she held her golden sword Lament in front of her and closed her eyes.
Her body seemed to relax completely while she stood perfectly still.
The first soldier was almost on her. He was screaming with his sword that was raised high for the killing blow. He swung down.
But before the sword could even touch her Luna vanished.
She was just gone leaving behind only a flash of silver light.
The soldier's sword hit empty air as he stumbled with his momentum carrying him forward. He stared as his eyes were wide with confusion.
"Where did she—"
SHIING. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
A blur of motion appeared behind him and Luna was right there with her sword held comfortably in her hands.
Her sword flashed in a single and golden arc and a second later four soldiers fell at once. Their throats were cut open before they even knew what happened.
Before the bodies hit the ground she was gone again, leaving behind the same blur of silver.
The other soldiers stopped as they skidded to a halt. They looked around wildly in the flickering firelight as it barely took them seconds for their formation to break.
"She's over there!" one man shouted.
Another flash of light.
She appeared on the other side of the circle and was already in the middle of an attack with her sword raised high. Three more soldiers fell. They didn't even have time to scream.
She was like a ghost. Like a silver-haired phantom. She was jumping all over the camp within seconds.
A flash here. A flash there.
Each flash left a pile of bodies behind.
Randolf however just watched with his hands behind his back and a neutral expression covering up his face. He wasn't panicking or fearing for his life like the soldiers in front of him, despite the fact that he was the person she was here to assassinate.
The soldiers tried to regroup and then formed a tight circle with their shields up, thinking that it might stop Luna from appearing out of nowhere behind their back.
However, it didn't seem to work for some reason.
Luna appeared right in the middle of their circle. They stared in shock.
How did she get in?
But she didn't give them time to even think as she spun in a low circle with her golden blade cutting through the air.
SHIIING.
She cut the legs out from under five men at once and they all collapsed, screaming in pain as their bodies hit the ground with blood spurting out of whatever was remaining of their legs.
She vanished again.
And this time she reappeared on the edge of the fight and was right next to a soldier who was trying to run.
It was a single and clean thrust. He fell without any trouble at all.
"You don't get to run," she mumbled to herself. "None of them got to run."
At some point, she had started to kill them not because she wanted to defend herself but rather because she wanted to make them pay for what they did to her soldiers. To the soldiers of the battalion they lost.
It was an immature thing to do. If either Lishia or Eunice would've been here they would be so disappointed in her.
She was aware of it as well. She was aware that the people she was killing didn't make the decision which ended up killing her soldiers.
Yet for this moment she wanted to forget that. And because its because this thinking of hers was clearly visible in her behaviour, that someone probably thought it was better to stop here.
Or perhaps it was because right now was the most efficient time to execute his plan.
