Chapter 69: 300 men awaits a clash.

Meanwhile, on the first floor of the Nameless Dungeon...

"Ah~~~, my lord~"

Lyra sat on the floor, right next to where Kai’s throne stood. Her head was resting on the seat while her hand traced the obsidian surface of the chair itself.

She was constantly trying to see if there was a way she could smell what was left of him on the throne, but unfortunately, all she got was the remnant of his mana still lingering there.

Which, of course, she didn’t mind.

Lyra was initially upset that Carlotta got to spend more time with Kai yet again, but as she held onto that chair, most of her worries and jealousy simply vanished. Then came a knock on the door.

Bang! Bang!

It was not particularly loud, but it was still enough to cause Lyra to frown, knowing someone had come to interrupt her moment. She looked toward the door at the far end of the room.

"Who is there? I am busy!"

As though the person completely ignored her statement, the door opened and a voice echoed back.

"It would seem my lord is no longer in the dungeon. What a shame; I was so eager to tell him about what I have discovered."

It was Sanovere.

With slow steps, he walked into the room, the usual cocky smile on his face while he held a long, folded parchment in his palm.

Seeing who it was, Lyra sighed and stood to her feet.

"If you wanted to speak with Lord Kai, then you could have used the communicator he handed us. It was given to us for the sole purpose of communicating with him when we need to."

Sanovere chuckled. "That must have slipped my mind."

"I can read the minds of all monsters under my lord. Please refrain from lying in front of me; it is really annoying," Lyra frowned.

Sanovere was a bit surprised by the ability, but he quickly brushed it off by asking a question of his own.

"How is your task going? I must confess, I am a bit jealous; you get to plan something so sinister. I’m curious how it went?"

Lyra brushed her hair to the side before she responded.

"It went exactly how it was supposed to. I have delivered skeleton knights to their front doors under the guise of them acting as extra security if anything were to happen. Of course, I was able to determine which of them still harbored ill intent toward my lord. They will serve as the sacrificial lambs."

She paused. "What about you? If you are looking for Lord Kai, it must mean you have completed yours as well."

"300 men. That is the total number of men under the Duke’s army currently wiping out the dungeons in the area. The majority of them seem to be less than level 100; however, there are three that stand out. It’s probably because of them that they are clearing dungeons this fast."

Lyra had a somewhat worried look on her face. "Should we be worried about them?"

"Frankly, no. Well, if they were to go into battle with any of our lower-ranked monsters, they would be sure to win. But against Hamr, or even Azeal, their chances drop by a large margin."

"Thank you for telling me this. I’ll be sure to convey it to Lord Kai as soon as possible."

Sanovere smiled. "You really are a hopeless woman when it comes to my lord."

Lyra sneered at him. "You are just as annoying as the rest of them."

....

{Rambosa City}

Kai had his back resting against a tree, his mask securely in place. With his arms crossed, he could hear Lyra’s voice in his head, reporting everything Sanovere had just told her moments ago.

’Three hundred. Are you certain?’

(Yes, my lord. According to what Sanovere said, that seems to be the case.)

’Three hundred men is a small number compared to the total number of men a dukedom can have. Still, it’s too much just for dungeon hunting. Which only proves the Duke is desperate in some way.’

(Their numbers are no match for our might. Even if there were a thousand of them.)

Kai smiled. ’Your confidence is admirable. But be sure to keep me up to date if anything new happens.’

(Yes, my lord. I’ll do so. Please be safe, and also do not interact with the women of that city. Humans are very dangerous and cunning. So please be careful, especially around those with pus—)

Kai instantly cut off the connection.

’I would much rather not hear anything else like that for my own sanity.’

With the connection hung up, Kai looked to the side, where he could see workers loading the wagon with the goods they were about to transport.

Leo was at the front speaking to the driver, while Carlotta was seated at the back of the carriage, wiggling her feet while playing with an insect.

’Hmm... there they are—’

Kai turned his gaze further away from the wagon and toward the opposite side, where he could see two people.

One was a male, a level 85 fighter class, while the other was a woman, a level 94 mage class.

From what he knew, they were going to be accompanying Kai and the rest on their journey to deliver the goods to a famous distributing company toward the east of the city, in a town called Goldmore.

Leo had mentioned how people doing their first distribution usually get ambushed by bandits; it was basically a tradition.

As such, the Merchant Guild would issue capable adventurers to follow the carriage and ensure it was safe. Not that Kai agreed with any of it, as he found it rather unnecessary.

Little did he know, he would be right.
