Chapter 43: Happy Thanksgiving

As expected, a blowhard like Engston, swollen with arrogance, couldn’t keep his mouth shut. His lustful demeanor confirmed he’d slept with the secretary.

Beyond trade secrets, Jake also uncovered some scandalous private details that made him blush. He couldn’t help muttering, "They really know how to have fun."

The secretary’s rich inner monologue could’ve starred in a Japanese adult film.

Time flew by, and soon it was noon. Engston eagerly invited Manager Mina to lunch, but she declined.

On the way back to the hotel, Mina remained silent until they reached her room. Only then did she ask Jake for his thoughts. He revealed the secrets he’d overheard.

In truth, Aven’s contract terms were the same as previous years. Engston had secretly altered them—on the surface, it was a 60-40 split, but in reality, it matched the 70-30 arrangement. He’d even prepared a shadow contract.

Rather than being surprised, Mina looked at Jake with newfound respect. "You knew about this too?"

Hearing this, Jake was utterly impressed. He’d relied on his supernatural ability to uncover the secrets, yet Manager Mina had deduced the trickery just by analyzing Engston’s behavior during their half-morning negotiation.

"Just a bold guess," Jake said. He couldn’t very well tell her, "I can hear women’s inner voices."

Mia also secretly admired Jake’s abilities.

Such bold speculation, if not based on a deep understanding of the market and a thorough familiarity with the company’s contracts, would not even be ventured by some superiors.

At Jake’s age, apart from being a bit impulsive at first, she had carefully analyzed and deconstructed the situation, only to realize that Jake had seen through it at a glance. His future achievements would be immeasurable.

However, Engston, a mere deputy general manager, dared to do such things. It was downright audacious.

"What should we do?"

"Stay the course and adapt to the changes. Shella, you saved the recording and documents, right?"

"Don’t worry, Sister Min. Everything is ready."

"Evil people will be dealt with by worse evil people. Let’s go back."

"Huh?" Jake was completely confused. They had only been there for one night. A typical business trip would last at least four or five days. Such decisiveness was probably something only Manager Mina was capable of.

"This time, it really was beyond my expectations. But someone like Engston, with his huge ambitions and no sense of restraint, will either be finished or lose half his life after this." Mina wasn’t without sympathy.

But the business world was like a battlefield. If this wasn’t handled properly, she might not even keep her current position.

Jake marveled silently. Manager Mina’s actions, like an ancient general’s—swift, decisive, and bold—were truly captivating.

So the three of them didn’t even stop for lunch. They bought plane tickets on the spot and flew back to Savannah.

Aven Building, seventh floor.

Engston repeated his old tricks, playing OLplay with his secretary in the office before arriving late. But the empty meeting room filled him with unease.

"What’s going on? Where are they?" Engston flew into a rage, summoning the receptionist and berating her harshly.

The receptionist was miserable but didn’t dare vent her anger at Engston. She could only swallow her grievances, seething silently.

"They didn’t come."

"They didn’t come? Why the fuck didn’t you notify me?" Engston was livid.

"Damn it, you idiot. You said yourself you were in the office and didn’t want to be disturbed," the receptionist cursed inwardly but replied meekly, "You told me at noon not to disturb you!"

"Fuck, are you blaming me? Do you want to lose your job?" Engston was about to explode.

"Director Engston, the vice chairman is calling!" The secretary hurriedly stopped him.

Engston, his mood shifting unpredictably, suppressed his anger and returned to his office to answer the phone.

On the call, Engston’s uncle tore into him, saying the other party had already sent evidence to the chairman’s email. The contract and recording were irrefutable proof. This time, even if he wanted to protect Engston, he might not be able to.

After hanging up, the usually arrogant and domineering Engston lost his temper. His flabby body collapsed, and his shiny bald head was drenched in cold sweat.

The flirtatious secretary, seeing Director Engston’s panicked expression, asked cautiously, "What’s wrong, Brother Eng? Are you okay?"

Engston looked up. The lustful gaze he usually directed at his secretary was now dull. Remembering how he had harassed Manager Mina that morning, it seemed he had kicked an iron plate.

She hadn’t even given him a chance, directly throwing him into the abyss with no hope of redemption.

"You fucking bitch, just wait. if yo

"You fucking bitch, just wait. If I get out of this safely, I’ll make sure you pay."

On this end, the three of them returned to Savannah early in the afternoon. Mina organized the evidence and first showed it to Sister Yana for review. Then she had Shigella’s legal department verify each piece, finally confirming the irrefutable proof of Engston’s crimes.

However, the two companies were not mortal enemies. Yana instructed Mina to handle the matter appropriately, aiming to secure an additional percentage point in profits during their next collaboration.

As expected, Aven reluctantly conceded a 10% profit margin. As for how they dealt with Engston, that was their own company’s internal affair.

Jake was also promised by Manager Mina that he would be the first choice for future business trips, though she teasingly remarked that his abilities were so impressive, he might soon surpass her. Jake could only respond with a smile.

Compared to the negotiation, his accidental discovery of his abilities was the most valuable gain.

...

After returning to Savannah, Jake only worked a few days before the Thanksgiving holiday arrived. The day before, Mia even took a taxi alone to Jake’s rented apartment to share some joyful news.

Her parents had agreed to let Jake come over for a family gathering the next day. That night, Jake also shared the news with Taylor, who said she would come as well. Life seemed to be getting better day by day. This harmonious scene was the kind of life Jake had longed for many years.

Having a family meant having hope. It showed that his efforts during this period had been quietly noticed by his mother-in-law. Allowing Jake to celebrate the holiday with them was undoubtedly a tacit approval.

Jake was so excited he couldn’t sleep all night.

The next day, Jake woke up early and chose a relatively low-key outfit. He didn’t dare wear the suit Mia had bought him, afraid it might cause unnecessary misunderstandings and ruin the hard-earned improvement in their relationship.

On Thanksgiving Day, the streets were filled with festive joy, and the crisp autumn breeze made the atmosphere even more delightful. The weather was neither too hot nor too cold, perfect for the holiday.

Jake drove his freshly cleaned Volkswagen, the trunk filled with gifts. Having no parents of his own, this was his first time spending the holiday with "family." Mia had told him her parents didn’t need gifts—they had more than enough and couldn’t possibly use them all. But Jake wasn’t someone who ignored etiquette.

You could refuse, but he couldn’t not prepare.

The road to Mia’s home was already familiar to him. The past few months felt like a rebirth, and Jake knew this was largely due to the mind-reading ability he had accidentally gained.

Once again arriving at the standalone villa he had once envied, he no longer felt the nervousness he had before.

Mia was considerately waiting at the entrance to greet him. To Jake’s surprise, Taylor was there too.

Mia wore a yellow maxi dress, white ankle socks, and brown leather boots. Her voluptuous figure swayed gently in the wind as she waved to signal Jake’s arrival, her cuteness unchanged.

Meanwhile, Taylor, who usually dressed conservatively, had switched to a sexy black lace midi dress.

Her curvaceous body was faintly visible beneath the fabric, and she wore nude peep-toe high heels that revealed two pink toes, giving her a delicate yet disheveled beauty in the wind.

Standing side by side, their equally tall figures created a unique charm. For a moment, Jake felt as if he were seeing two wives—one older, one younger—waiting at the door to welcome him home.

But the illusion was quickly shattered by Mia’s cheerful, loud voice.

Parking the car in a spot in the garden, Jake inadvertently noticed the fiery red Maserati in the garage, likely his mother-in-law’s car. It matched Yana’s cold, noble temperament perfectly.

"Mia, Taylor, why are you both at the door?" Jake pretended to be oblivious despite knowing the answer.

"Mia said someone like you would definitely bring a lot of gifts, so I came to help," Taylor said, as gentle and considerate as ever.

"Do I really have that much face?" Jake teased.

Mia rolled her eyes at him. "Don’t flatter yourself. The only one who can get Taylor to come out is me."

The three of them chatted and laughed as they carried Jake’s gifts into the house, though Jake had deliberately set aside a few items—these were specially for Taylor.

Entering the villa, the spacious first floor was decorated with a strong Thanksgiving atmosphere. Mia had once told him that while her mother usually didn’t fuss over decorations, traditional festivals were different. Every festive occasion, the house was completely transformed.

What’s more, the decorations were handmade by her parents.

Yakov rose from the sofa, and Jake stepped forward respectfully to greet him. "Uncle, happy Thanksgiving. It’s been a while. Sorry for the intrusion."
