Super Soldier in Campus-Chapter 742 - 747: Shamed into Anger _1
It’s a common phenomenon in China for foreigners to receive preferential treatment. Even in identical situations, the treatment afforded to Chinese nationals and foreigners often differs significantly, leading to feelings of helplessness and, at times, intense anger.
Recently, a Japanese man’s bicycle was stolen in a Chinese city. After he reported it, the local police launched a city-wide search with remarkable urgency. In less than a day, they recovered the bicycle for the man—an individual generally disliked by the local populace. This incident was then touted as a political achievement, a display of preferential treatment towards foreigners that bordered on the pathological.
Conversely, when a Chinese citizen reports a stolen bicycle, the police typically don’t even open an investigation.
This discriminatory treatment had long infuriated Lin Feng, a Chinese national. He never imagined, however, that he would encounter someone as preposterous as Zou Chuan in Jiangzhou. Upon hearing Lin Feng claim to be a foreigner, Zou Chuan immediately ordered ten firefighters to rush into the inferno to retrieve Lin Feng’s supposed documents.
Zou Chuan not only commanded the firefighters to risk their lives but also instructed them that finding the documents was paramount. Even if they encountered trapped individuals, rescuing them was to be a secondary priority!
While it’s widely believed that human life is paramount, to Zou Chuan, it appeared that a foreigner’s documents, his own reputation, and preserving his official position were far more critical.
Lin Feng didn’t want these ten elite firefighters to come to harm. So, he blocked their path and demanded that Zou Chuan personally enter the fire to retrieve the documents.
The ten firefighters were acutely aware of the danger inside the burning building. The task Zou Chuan had assigned them wasn’t a rescue mission; it was to retrieve documents. More disturbingly, he had issued the sickening order to prioritize documents over saving lives. Considering this, they willingly stopped when Lin Feng obstructed them.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Zou Chuan demanded, visibly angered by Lin Feng’s actions. "I’ve ordered my men to retrieve your documents, and you’re still not satisfied?"
"Of course, I’m not satisfied," Lin Feng replied, deliberately adopting a stern expression and a cold tone. "Either you allow me to go in and find my documents, or you go in and retrieve them for me. Ordering others to do it is an insult to my status!"
Insulting my ass! Zou Chuan was nearly driven mad by Lin Feng’s audacity. He still hadn’t doubted Lin Feng’s foreign identity, simply because he found Lin Feng’s reasoning utterly bizarre.
Operating under the assumption that Lin Feng was indeed a foreigner, Zou Chuan knew that if either Lin Feng entered the building or if he himself went in, any accident would result in severe consequences that he couldn’t possibly bear.
Yet, Lin Feng adamantly refused to let Zou Chuan send anyone else. For a moment, Zou Chuan was so incensed he was at a complete loss!
Seeing Zou Chuan looking anxious and utterly flustered, Ye Lin knew Lin Feng was deliberately provoking him. She found the situation immensely amusing, but with Zou Chuan right there, she couldn’t laugh out loud and had to forcefully suppress her mirth.
"Uncle...what’s happening?" Yang Cheng suddenly walked over, appearing behind Zou Chuan and asking nonchalantly.
"Little Cheng, what do you think about this?" Zou Chuan gestured towards Lin Feng, briefly explained the situation in a low voice, and then asked with a frown.
After hearing Zou Chuan’s explanation, Yang Cheng gave Lin Feng a peculiar look and asked reflexively, "Since when is Lin Feng a foreigner? He’s always been a Jiangzhou local!"
Yang Cheng was so certain because he had personally investigated Lin Feng’s background. He had searched the police database for every individual named Lin Feng in Jiangzhou City, meticulously checking each record until he found the correct one. Therefore, he knew Lin Feng was, and always had been, a local.
Zou Chuan stared at Lin Feng in astonishment, his eyes silently demanding an explanation.
Lin Feng shrugged and offered Zou Chuan a polite smile. "That’s right, I’m not a foreigner. However, I am indeed a VIP guest of the Tianxing Club, and I do have some important papers in a room on the second floor..."
"What? You’re not a foreigner?!" Upon hearing Yang Cheng’s words, Zou Chuan was so enraged he nearly leaped to his feet. "You son of a bitch! You dare to toy with me? You’re dead meat! Men, arrest this bastard for obstructing official duties!"
Seeing Lin Feng brazenly impersonate a foreigner to mock Zou Chuan, Yang Cheng’s expression froze for an instant before he broke into a gleeful smile. This Lin Feng is truly courting death, daring to provoke my uncle!
At Zou Chuan’s command, two uniformed detectives advanced with handcuffs, ready to apprehend Lin Feng.
"Wait..." Just then, Ye Lin stepped forward. "Director Zou," she said, "Lin Feng... he’s my boyfriend. He came to see me today. What he said earlier were just jokes he was playing on you. Since no irreparable harm has been done, I hope you won’t take it to heart and can forgive him this once."
Seeing Ye Lin step forward and declare him as her boyfriend, Lin Feng was both surprised and genuinely touched. It seems that despite her tough exterior, this girl really does care about me.
"This fellow is your boyfriend? And you want me to forgive him?" Zou Chuan’s beard practically bristled with rage. As Yang Cheng’s uncle, he was well aware of his nephew’s unrequited affection for Ye Lin. To see her openly declare her relationship in front of him, and with the very person who had just humiliated him... 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Oh... I see!" Zou Chuan exclaimed as if a sudden realization had struck him. He pointed first at Ye Lin, then at Lin Feng, and sneered, "No wonder this fellow suddenly decided to play such a prank on me! He was trying to get revenge for you, wasn’t he? Retaliating because I reprimanded you, Captain Ye? It seems you didn’t take my words to heart at all! Not only did you fail to recognize your error, but you also incited your boyfriend to mock me!"
Casually rolling up his sleeves, Zou Chuan continued his tirade with a cold sneer, "Everyone here witnessed it! This man obstructed official duties and even attempted to deliberately endanger our firefighters! Arrest him! Detaining him for fifteen days would be lenient! And as for you, Ye Lin! Neglecting your duties during work hours, going to a bar to drink, and now daring to instigate others to deliberately obstruct official business! Considering you became a detective captain at such a young age, I’ll give you one chance to reform. You’re suspended for one month! Go home and reflect thoroughly on your mistakes!"
Zou Chuan, thoroughly humiliated and enraged, had just sealed Lin Feng’s and Ye Lin’s fates with those few sentences: Lin Feng to be detained for fifteen days, and Ye Lin to be suspended for a month to "reflect."
His pronouncement sounded incredibly authoritative. Unfortunately for him, neither Lin Feng nor Ye Lin paid him any mind. Instead, both were looking intently at something behind Zou Chuan.
Just as Zou Chuan was about to erupt in fury, he suddenly heard a clear, resonant baritone voice from behind him ask...
"Zou Chuan, what are you doing?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Zou Chuan instinctively turned. He was met by the sight of a dignified man, about fifty years old, wearing a high-ranking police uniform and regarding him with an amiable smile.
