Super Soldier in the City-Chapter 2187 - 2251: Human Nature Is Inherently Evil
What kind of deep hatred could make someone go to such great lengths to frame another person, even dragging a third person into it? Wu Shuwei deeply felt the evil side of human nature, even though she considered herself to have gone through many things, she still found it somewhat difficult to accept this matter.
Li Yifei was quite calm. He had already suspected something like this, so when Zhang Xi confirmed it, Li Yifei simply gave a faint smile. Those who wanted to kill him—Li Yifei had encountered them too many times, from various opponents during his military days to those he met after retiring. Maybe he didn’t have much conflict or hatred with them, but they simply wanted to kill him. What could he do about it?
Of course, there was a way; if you were cold enough, if they wanted to kill you, then you kill them in return. Don’t feel guilty about it. To survive in this society, beneath the facade of harmony and stability, there is actually backbiting and dog-eat-dog everywhere. When someone wants your life, you can only take theirs.
Wu Shuwei walked over to Li Yifei and whispered an apology. Li Yifei touched her cheek with his hand, rubbed it a few times, and said, "No need to apologize; you haven’t done anything wrong. Human nature is fundamentally evil. Just make sure to outwit others more in the future. I’ll handle this."
"I... I’ll handle it. Report it to headquarters, and I guess he will be dealt with," Wu Shuwei said a bit uncertainly.
"Don’t be silly. In situations like this, it’s better to confront them directly. Otherwise, if this guy escapes, we’ll have nowhere to catch him," Li Yifei responded.
That’s right, Wu Shuwei thought to herself, nodding, "Okay, then... You handle it."
"Alright. Let’s go meet this Chief Lu," Li Yifei grinned, lifting Wu Shuwei’s waist with both hands and placing her into the helicopter, causing her to glare at Li Yifei as four others stood nearby.
"Zhang Xi, I may choose not to deal with you, but that’s the limit. Go wherever you want; and if I run into you again, don’t expect me to show mercy," Li Yifei said coldly before boarding the aircraft, looking at Zhang Xi.
Zhang Xi’s face showed a hint of regret, yet he nodded upon hearing Li Yifei’s words, "Thank you, Mr. Li; I will leave the company."
Forcing Zhang Xi to leave or even firing him was a matter of agreement between Wu Shuwei and Li Yifei. Despite his strong capabilities, they couldn’t keep him. His audacity had reached such a degree; an experienced security captain daring to get involved in a murder conspiracy was incredibly bold.
The helicopter took off, flying directly over the tribe not far away. Looking down, Wu Shuwei saw many people gathered in the backyard, still digging. Li Yifei landed the helicopter on the clearing at the front, then took Wu Shuwei’s hand to disembark, while General Lion and Bare-ass General followed like gatekeepers on either side, faces full of anger. After witnessing Li Yifei’s skills, their personalities seemed to change abruptly, willing to follow.
Li Yifei walked ahead; upon hearing the helicopter land, the people in the yard rushed over. Seeing Li Yifei and Wu Shuwei, they were startled as if they had seen ghosts. Lu Youx’s entourage also emerged, even gasping in surprise, with two immediately turning to run, presumably to alert Lu Youx.
Just a glance from Li Yifei made them feel chilled all over, standing there at a loss.
At that moment, Lu Youx was particularly disheartened. In his view, if Li Yifei died, he died; if Wu Shuwei died, it would be a monstrous crime, and he, the mastermind, probably had to die too. Escaping seemed impossible, even if hiding in an Indigenous tribe in Africa, he would likely be hunted down.
But now it’s already the fourth day; there’s absolutely no chance of survival. Lu Youx appeared to age decades overnight, being tormented these past few days. Just then, a subordinate ran over in panic, falling headlong as he approached, almost injuring himself.
"Chief Lu, Chief Lu." The subordinate ignored his injuries, crawling up anxiously, "They... they’re back."
"Who?" Lu Youx asked, frowning.
"That Wu... Manager Wu, and that bodyguard. They just flew back in a helicopter," the subordinate said nervously.
"Who?" Lu Youx stood abruptly, grabbing the subordinate’s clothes, eyes wide with a somewhat fierce expression, "Who did you say came back?"
"Cough... Chief Lu, I can’t breathe." The subordinate dared not struggle; once Lu Youx released his hand, he hurriedly said, "Manager Wu, she and the bodyguard, flew back in that helicopter just now, they’re coming over."
"How is that possible? How?" Lu Youx’s first reaction wasn’t joy but panic, saying, "No, I have to hide. If they’re back, they’re surely here for trouble. If they see me here, it can’t be explained." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"Chief Lu, you’re here to save people; why would you hide?" The subordinate hurriedly reminded Lu Youx, seeing his panic.
"Rescue? Yes, I came to rescue, I rushed over as soon as I heard the news, what’s there to panic about, hehe, hahaha!" Lu You laughed up at the sky, while Li Yifei and Wu Shuwei had already walked in, seeing Lu You laughing strangely, Li Yifei snorted.
Behind the two were quite a few people, including black indigenous people, a few of Lu You’s subordinates, and then the two fierce generals, General Lion and Bare-ass General. General Lion was holding a submachine gun, with a sniper rifle slung over his shoulder, while Bare-ass General, to show off his fierceness, was carrying a squad automatic weapon, with two loops of bullets wrapped around him.
"Shuwei... Manager Wu, you’re okay, that’s great!" Lu You pushed aside a subordinate and ran towards Wu Shuwei, an expression of surprise and joy on his face.
Wu Shuwei glanced at him indifferently, without speaking. Lu You, unfazed, continued on his own, "I rushed over immediately when I heard the news, those damned indigenous people, damn it, they actually captured you here and blew this place up. I had people dig for two days, in the end, I found there were no corpses of you... uh, I also had people search the underground river, but unfortunately, we found nothing. How did you manage to get out?"
Wu Shuwei used to just think this person was a bit hypocritical, but now looking at Lu You, she felt he was extremely deceitful, that face was simply detestable, yet she said nothing, only giving a faint smile.
Lu You, wanting to show that he was sincere, took a step forward, but unexpectedly, a person suddenly appeared. General Lion kicked out at his leg, causing Lu You to fall hard on his knees, his face full of pain. Lu You’s subordinates immediately reacted, surrounding him. Among them were the indigenous people, including the clan chief, as they were allied with Lu You.
"I’m... fine!" Lu You was helped up, stopping his subordinates from acting impulsively. He glanced at General Lion, and couldn’t help but shiver. Though all black people looked similar, there were handsome and ugly ones. General Lion and Bare-ass General were definitely top-tier in the ugly category, shockingly so. So upon seeing General Lion, Lu You immediately remembered his identity, and couldn’t help staring.
What’s going on here? The general of the rebel army has come to be a sidekick to Li Yifei? Doesn’t that mean the token Li Yifei has is real, and that he might actually have the clout to lead a rebel army?
"G-G-General Lion?" Lu You stammered.
"Kneel." General Lion said expressionlessly. His act was somewhat stealing the show, so Bare-ass General wasn’t having it. He swung his massive frame over, the squad automatic weapon bumping along with a clang as he used its muzzle to press against Lu You’s head, saying coldly and bloodthirstily, "If you don’t kneel, your head will be blown off immediately."
"Kneel, I’ll kneel!" Lu You, with the dark muzzle aimed at him, had no choice but to kneel.
The onlookers were in an uproar, the indigenous people quickly pulled out their guns, and so did Lu You’s subordinates.
Li Yifei spoke, looking at Lu You, "Chief Lu, quite a scheme you’ve got there. Able to kill me, and save the damsel in distress as a hero, but things don’t always go as planned, got so scared these past two days, didn’t you?"
"You... you’re slandering!" With a gun to his head, Lu You felt as if his heart would burst, mouth dry, he stammered.
Li Yifei stepped forward a few strides, pushing aside Bare-ass General and General Lion, looking down at Lu You, he said, "I didn’t come back to argue with you about this."
"Then you..." Lu You instinctively started to speak, only to see Li Yifei’s eyes turn cold, and he continued, "I’m a fair person, you wanted to kill me, so I will kill you, that’s fair."
Kill... kill? Lu You reacted immediately, quickly retreating, and at the same time shouting to his subordinates and the tribe chief, "Quick, he wants to kill me, take him out."
"Save it." Li Yifei stood straight, General Lion and Bare-ass General stepped forward two steps, stomping the ground heavily, declared their identities. Lu You’s subordinates didn’t care much, but the indigenous people’s expressions changed dramatically, the tribe chief included, directly dropping their guns in fright.
They all knew the cruelty of the rebel army. Although the government army was just as ruthless, you could pay money to buy your life if you provoked them, but if you provoked the rebel army, it was worse than death. They didn’t care about money, but would indeed massacre a village out of hatred...
Now, two of the three rebel army generals appeared here, it was simply shocking. More importantly, these two were acting as subordinates, so what kind of identity did this Easterner have?
While they were puzzled, Li Yifei released his imposing aura, a terrifying and overwhelming force instantly pressing on the indigenous people, making them immediately feel the urge to kneel, guns rattling to the ground as people dropped to their knees en masse.
"This is our envoy lord, to dare to frame him, is to go against the entire insurgent army!" General Lion’s icy gaze swept across the scene, forcing many eyes to the ground, coldly proclaiming.
