Chapter 536: Chapter 530: Blind Despite Open Eyes (Part 2)

Up he came, slapping David Hale right across the face, turning around and walking out. His words were received loud and clear by onlookers, who understood David Hale to be the rebellious offspring of a prominent family. Given their understanding of the relationship between David and Finn, it reinforced their assumption — logically, a friend of Finn’s could not possibly be ordinary.

They simply thought David had initially downplayed his family background as an idle rich boy. Everyone was initially awestruck by the ostentatious procession of luxury vehicles, casting no doubt on David’s father. Then out came Finn, diverting their attention. Their minds couldn’t keep up, so they naturally overlooked a few things.

“What’s going on?” Finn walked over, first giving Mr. Humphrey a hug and then asked.

“Mr. Finn, they wanted to keep Mr. Humphrey as a kept man, saying that they’d been bankrolling him.” Davis’ explanation was superb, saying only a few words but hitting the nerve.

After finishing, Finn’s gaze landed upon the Shepherd Family in the distance. His eyes held a peculiar glint. In truth, Finn was simply bemused by Scholar Lewis’s schemes, hence his unintentional twitching and suppressed laughter. To the spectators, this made Finn look like he’d just witnessed something unbelievable.

Speculation started spreading the moment they saw David’s predicament. Combined with Finn’s explanation, the immense wealth of David’s family become apparent. But then they thought back to the proposal to keep David as a kept man. Everyone’s expressions became strange. It felt as ludicrous as a millionaire proposing to bankroll a billionaire. Wasn’t it ridiculous?

“Alright, I get it. Come on, Mr. Humphrey, can’t you stop playing around? Who messes around like you do and then ends up being played? This would be embarrassing if anyone else knew. How will you show your face around here after this?” Finn playfully patted Mr. Humphrey’s shoulder.

Given Finn’s words and the expression on his face, the guests had an idea about what happened. Having consoled Mr. Humphrey, Finn turned to Davis and the prince, “What are you guys still waiting for? Get him into the car before my uncle comes and slaps him again.”

Davis and the others sprang into action at Finn’s instructions, helping David towards the car. Scholar Lewis followed suit. Faye Shepherd’s mouth opened to say something, but Finn remained unmoving, shielding Mr. Humphrey, standing in front of their family.

Finn relaxed his face back to its usual placid demeanor. He glanced at Faye Shepherd and spoke calmly, “You know what you’ve done. No need for me to elaborate, right? Do you plan to keep stirring this up? If it weren’t for this mess, the two of you could have happily married each other. Although Mr. Humphrey is already married, having two wives in our circle isn’t unimaginable. But now… you understand the consequences.”

“Is there more to say? Or are there any parts you’re not pleased with? I heard that you’d been spending on David? How much? I’ll settle the bill.” Finn’s tone was casual, but the Shepherd Family felt helpless due to the vast wealth gap between them and Finn.

The difference between their assets was like day and night. Their wealth was only in the millions, while to Finn, a billion was just a figure thrown around without a second thought. The wealth he flaunted was in Federal coins, not Flame Nation coins. The wealth gap was enormous. They had just braced themselves to venture into this elite tier, so they understood that while things looked simple, they were complex.

If they were the victims, that would be a different story, as they would be entitled to some sort of justice. But were they the victims? The bundle that David had just foisted onto their daughter was already stowed away. Yet everyone knew what it was. They had no justification for their immediate actions, which was a significant issue.

Finn was now offering to compensate them for the money David had spent on them. But how much money did David actually use? How much was spent on David himself? It all amounted to a few tens of thousands of yuan at most. Mention a few tens of thousands in front of Finn? That’s ridiculous. Even Finn’s driver could probably fork out that amount easily. The key point was, they didn’t dare to say anything.

If they did, would they still be able to conduct business? A single word from Finn could probably push their business to the brink of bankruptcy. “No… It’s fine, Mr. Lewis. We apologize; we were in the wrong today,” Faye Shepherd’s father managed to say, his face looking downright awful. Faye Shepherd was standing beside him, her face deathly pale.

“Let it be. I hate owing people favors. I don’t know how much Mr. Humphrey spent on you guys, but 1 million should be enough, right? I’ve heard from my friends that Mr. Humphrey didn’t exactly spend a lot. Most of the money went to your daughter, right? You should be clear on that. Fishy Wells, get them a check for 1 million.” Finn casually instructed.

“Yes, young master,” Ann promptly approached, carrying a pre-prepared check. Finn, in the meantime, turned around without a moment’s hesitation.

At this point, the convoy with David had begun to leave, and Finn’s convoy started to move as well. Only Ann’s car stopped to wait for her. Only when Ann was in the car did the convoy quickly proceed and depart. The whole episode took less than half an hour, transforming the lively wedding scene into a somber one in an instant.

The Shepherd Family felt like everyone was staring at them, their eyes filled with mockery. Especially Finn’s parting words, which were a kalaidoscopic punch to the gut, anonymously uncovering why they had initially approached David. Wasn’t it all for Finn? Now that Finn had appeared, the outcome was completely opposite to their expectations. They’d gotten themselves tangled in a major conflict, but it was one of stark opposition. Thinking about it, Faye Shepherd’s father felt the world darken before his eyes and passed out.
