Superstar's Development Diary-Chapter 827 - 829: Getting Scolded
Jinxia smiled lightly and said calmly, "Angus, this is just the first movie you’ve made. How many directors have you worked with? Besides Stanlanca, there’s just this one. How can you think he’s unprofessional?
Also, how many internationally renowned directors are there in the world?
You can’t possibly work with those big directors on every film. An artist is very lucky to work with two or three big directors in their lifetime. Most of the time, they work with ordinary directors."
"This assistant director’s filmmaking skills aren’t as bad as you say. If the quality of his footage were poor, Stanlanca would scold him when he sees it. He’s striving for perfection for the sake of the entire film."
As she finished speaking, Jinxia glanced sideways at Angus: "And you, although I don’t know what you’re thinking, you’ve been distracted since about ten minutes into shooting, and your lines and actions are a bit off. The director stopping you is justified, and I also think you should reshoot."
Think carefully about it, don’t let such a minor thing delay you. You should know—"
She deliberately lowered her voice a bit and continued, "Every assistant who can become an international director isn’t as simple as you imagine."
Angus’s expression changed slightly, and he whispered, "Thank you, Jinxia."
Jinxia shook her head, only advising him, "Adjust your mood properly. Keep track of the time yourself, and make sure to rest for ten minutes before getting back to filming."
After advising Angus, Jinxia felt she had done her part and didn’t plan to stay longer as the confidant, turning and re-entering the set, contemplating the scene to be shot next.
Many crew members were still lingering on the set, and when they saw Jinxia return, they couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
They just thought the assistant director was going to have a fight with Angus!
If they really did fight, it would be a headache, and they wouldn’t know who to help.
"Jinxia, thank goodness you’re here. Angus is a bit scared of you," a female crew member whispered as she approached Jinxia, her eyes filled with gratitude.
To be honest, if the director and actor had a conflict, the ones who suffered most were the crew members.
Whether the director deliberately challenges the actor’s performance, or the actor, being unable to perform well, repeatedly stalls, the actor just needs a short break for a retake, while the crew has to continuously hold the filming equipment, tiring their arms without any respite.
Ten minutes later, Angus appeared on set, and the assistant director carried on filming as if nothing had happened.
Perhaps because the two had quarreled, both were more restrained—a serious performance by one, a dedicated filming by the other, and suddenly, progress was going smoothly.
By the time Stanlanca returned to the crew, it was already evening.
The first thing he did when he got back was to check the footage shot by the assistant director. At first glance, his expression was very stern, and he was talking about something with the associate director.
Angus thought about how things didn’t go smoothly during the day of shooting. He felt partly responsible and was a little worried the assistant director might get scolded too harshly, so he went over to take a look.
When he arrived, he heard Stanlanca scolding the assistant director: "The earlier shots were timid and cautious. It seemed like you were being strict, but actually, you missed the mark.
I’ve taught you so many things before. You’ve been by my side watching for so long, how can you not even do this right?"
The assistant director, who had previously been fierce with Angus, now meekly stood there taking the scolding, without a word.
Angus couldn’t help but say, "Director, I—"
Stanlanca looked at him: "Shut up. Don’t think I don’t know you look down on the assistant director, which is why you don’t take the filming seriously. The camera doesn’t lie; whatever appears in the footage, I’ve seen it all."
Well, now even Angus was getting reprimanded.
Stanlanca felt these two needed some straightening out, so he decided to "educate" them both, leaving them somewhat questioning their lives.
Some crew members, feeling sympathetic, ran to find Jinxia to help resolve the situation.
Jinxia had just finished eating when she heard this, and promptly walked over to the director’s side.
She had been present throughout the afternoon’s events, and in terms of responsibility, there wasn’t one person more to blame than the others; they were equally at fault.
The assistant director had been a bit nervous during filming, allowing no room for errors, while Angus got a bit irritable, not adapting well to the assistant director’s pace, so there were problems with both sides.
When she reached Stanlanca, his stern expression softened slightly upon seeing her, and he waved her over.
"Jinxia, come here!"
Jinxia approached, a bit puzzled in her heart, as Stanlanca didn’t seem as angry as the crew members had described.
"Angus, you’re still young, and your acting is just at the start. The character of the Captain is quite similar to your nature, which is why you could perform so well, but Jinxia is different. She and the Elf Princess are completely different kinds of people.
Think about Jinxia in real life. She’s polite, gentle, and mild-tempered, but the Elf Princess she plays is completely different.
The Elf Princess is kind and gentle to the Elf Clan members, but she’s hostile toward everyone else. Even when she becomes part of Jelway’s crew, she is indifferent to the Captain’s orders, portraying an aloof demeanor.
Do you think, when she’s acting, is she truly like the Elf Princess?"
Angus thought it over carefully, and couldn’t help but nod.
Stanlanca said sincerely, "That’s the charm of acting. An actor needs to understand the role and perform the necessary emotion profound for that role.
Jinxia has a gentle character, yet in her performance as the Elf Princess, she is convincing, and that’s her skill. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Angus, you have a lot of scenes with her. Learn from her, don’t think your acting is so great. If you took on a different role, you might be nothing."
Having already been chastised earlier, Angus had been left questioning himself. With this added, he resignedly lowered his head.
"And you, McSaff (the assistant director), the initial filming left me very disappointed, overly cautious. I know you’re under a lot of pressure, but which director isn’t?
Every day the crew is shooting is a day of burning money; when actors don’t perform well, directors get anxious. When directors can’t find the right feeling, they get even more anxious... but does being anxious help? You’re still too young!"
Stanlanca’s tone suddenly shifted, adding, "Luckily, you finally found yourself later on, boldly using the camera. Nicely done!"
