Chapter 67: The Little Cotton-Padded Jacket Lets in the Cold

“Sweetie, here’s the thing. Since your college entrance exams are coming up, your dad and I discussed it and decided to pick you up and drop you off at school every day until the exams are over.”

“This way, you can focus more on your exam preparations and get more rest. What do you think about our idea?” Wang Xiaoqian finished and looked at Lin Xiaowan, waiting for her response.

Xiaowan, taken aback, asked in disbelief, “Mom, are you serious?”

“Of course, we’ve discussed it. Starting tomorrow morning, we’ll take you to and from school. Your dad will do it tomorrow.”

Hearing this, Xiaowan realized that Wang Xiaoqian and Lin Guoqiang were probably serious. Piecing together the events of the evening, she guessed they were concerned about her possibly dating at school and thus came up with this plan.

She wasn’t sure whether to be happy that her parents finally had time to take her to school or sad that it was just a strategy because they were worried about her dating.

“Mom, as long as you can wake up, I’d be delighted for you to take me to school,” Xiaowan said with a beaming smile.

Wang Xiaoqian, seeing Xiaowan’s smile, felt a bit uneasy, suspecting an ulterior motive, but she brushed it off, thinking her daughter wouldn’t have such intentions towards her own parents.

“That’s settled, then. Tomorrow when you wake up, come and wake your dad, and he’ll take you to school.”

“Okay~!!”

Wang Xiaoqian had prepared a whole speech to persuade Xiaowan, but seeing her easy acceptance, she felt relieved.

After Wang Xiaoqian left, Xiaowan sneakily locked the door and opened the window. Standing in front of it, she called Su Lin.

A few seconds later, Su Lin’s affectionate voice came through the phone, “Xiaowan, missing me already?”

“Who’s missing you? Are you home yet?”

“Just got home. What’s up?” Su Lin sensed something off in Xiaowan’s voice.

“I… Su Lin, I regret it.”

“Regret what?” Su Lin asked instinctively.

“Regretting making that bet with you. Let’s cancel our bet, okay?”

“No way, absolutely not. Xiaowan, what happened that made you want to give up the bet?” Su Lin asked seriously.

“My parents suspected I was dating and questioned me. I thought it was over after that, but they decided to start taking me to and from school tomorrow. I think they’ve guessed something. Su Lin, let’s just wait until college to date,” Xiaowan cautiously suggested.

“Wait until college? How can that be? Love can’t wait. I’ve already found this month hard enough, and you want me to wait another three months? No way!” Su Lin adamantly refused.

Su Lin couldn’t overstep certain boundaries without officially confirming their relationship. Now, just when the time was about to come to deepen their feelings, this curveball was thrown his way.

“What should we do then? My mom might transfer me to another school if she finds out I’m dating in high school.”

“Transfer schools? Then transfer. Wherever you go, I’ll follow. With my grades, any school principal would come to welcome me.”

“You just keep bragging. Principals coming to welcome you…” Xiaowan laughed.

“I’m serious. You should know my capabilities by now.”

“Come on, how can you still joke at a time like this?” Xiaowan said impatiently.

“Xiaowan, don’t worry. Let uncle and aunt take you to school for a couple of days. Given the time you get to school, I doubt they’ll keep it up. If they do, then let them. It’s also good for you to get a ride to school every day.”

Xiaowan usually arrived at school very early, typically just past seven, as she had the classroom keys.

To ensure her classmates could enter the classroom, she was always the first to arrive. Her parents, being very busy, hardly had enough rest at night, let alone getting up early to take her to school.

“What about the company matters?”

“The supplier contracts are all settled, aren’t they? Just need someone to follow up, so it won’t hinder things. You can go there on weekends,” Su Lin assured her with a laugh.

“Alright… I guess that’s the only way.”

“Don’t worry, Xiaowan. Trust me, given your parents’ work nature, I’d be impressed if they can keep it up for three days.”

“Alright, then. I’ll wake up early tomorrow morning and give them a hard time for a few days, hehe.”

Hearing Xiaowan’s mischievous laugh, Su Lin knew she probably had this idea all along. He felt a bit sorry for Lin Guoqiang and Wang Xiaoqian, thinking about how they would have to get up early to take Xiaowan to school.

“Okay, Xiaowan, I’m waiting for your good news.”

“Mm~!!”

After hanging up, Xiaowan covered her face, feeling guilty for plotting against her parents.

“Su Lin, if you dare to bully me, you’re done for.”

The next morning, Xiaowan indeed got up early. It was just past six when she went to knock on her parents’ door. The sleeping Lin Guoqiang and Wang Xiaoqian were startled awake, both rubbing their eyes, looking groggy.

“What’s the matter, Xiaowan?”

“Dad, didn’t you say you’d take me to school? Come on, get up,” Xiaowan urged from outside the door.

Lin Guoqiang’s face turned green. He had stayed up late working and had just four hours of sleep before Xiaowan came knocking.

“It’s just past six, Xiaowan. Why so early?”

“Not early. By the time I get ready, it’ll be almost seven, then off to school for the morning self-study session. That doesn’t even include breakfast time,” Xiaowan explained from outside.

“Do kids go to school this early these days?” Lin Guoqiang said weakly.

Wang Xiaoqian pushed him, “Come on, it was your idea. Don’t let Xiaowan wait.”

“I’ve only slept four hours. Driving tired could lead to an accident.”

“Hmph, you slept four hours, and so did I. Weren’t you the one promising to take her to school? You didn’t forget as soon as you said it, did you?”

Lin Guoqiang’s face fell further. Eventually, he got up, pushed by Wang Xiaoqian.

Seeing Lin Guoqiang’s sleepy appearance, Xiaowan chuckled. “Dad, hurry up. I need to get to school early.”

After Xiaowan playfully tapped the back of their heads, they felt their plans to control her backfire.

If Lin Guoqiang and Wang Xiaoqian genuinely wanted to take her to and from school, she would have been happy. But knowing their intentions were to separate and monitor her and Su Lin, she felt a little upset.

Hence, she decided to give them a taste of their own medicine. Finally, when they arrived at school and it was already bright, Xiaowan walked to the classroom with a stern face.

Lin Guoqiang, seeing the students at the gate, muttered, “Isn’t it too early for morning reading? Why is Xiaowan so upset?”

He prepared to leave, but then a Mercedes approached. Recognizing it as Su Lin’s car, and seeing him inside, Lin Guoqiang’s face darkened.

“This brat really dares to drive so brazenly. I’ll have someone impound his car today. Hmph, distracting my daughter from her studies.”

Su Lin, noticing the Audi, found the driver’s angry expression strange. “What’s with this guy?”

After passing the Audi, Su Lin parked in a less crowded spot, easier for getting out.
