Chapter 59: Ranaya [4]

The consequences of the demonkind’s sudden appearance in the Ranaya Island quickly spiraled out of control as the entire Continent of Divinica—on the human side—had issued the maximum high alert under the tacit approval of the Orthodox Churches and the respective mighty rulers of the continent’s Four Empires.

The first week of the tenth month was welcomed by the newspaper headlines across the continent.

[—The convention of the True Divinity Congregation had been set in motion... What will be the next steps of the Orthodox Churches?]

[—The thirty-nine students from the Second Year, Class Mu of the Hero Academy had gone missing, and it’s been more than two weeks since the incident. They are now presumed dead.]

[—The families of the missing students, with any of their traces unseen, mourned the loss of their blood.]

[—True Hero’s Ascension Trial, will it be hastened for the assurance of the masses?]

[—The Kingdom of Grisha’s royal family and nobles must be held accountable for their lax security! They should be tried for treason against humanity!]

[—The Adania Empire has yet to release an official statement, but has already expressed its condolences for those who had been swept by the demonkind’s cruelty.]

[—The demonkind should not be allowed to exist! Is this the mark of the Demon King’s return?]

Despite the journalists working day and night for the seemingly endless headlines because of the massive incident that was gradually marking itself to the history of the Hero Academy and the entire continent, among the news being delivered from one place to another that either questioned the measures the Hero Academy enforced to safeguard the future and well-being of the students, impact to the political relations between the Four Empires, and the plans of Orthodox Churches, a thought-provoking headline swallowed the most attention...

[—The Ranaya Island can no longer be seen and has been obliterated from the waters of Atlan Sea. What exactly happened?]

"You monstrous bitch. What did you do?" Maya’s amethyst eyes gleamed with utmost excitement as she put down the newspaper on a study desk.

The subject of the mystery, as everything that had transpired on the island, was not publicly disclosed, and remained asleep. Since briefly opening her eyes, reading the flood of messages from the [Divine Guide], and being rescued that day, Alana had fallen into unconsciousness for some reason no one could accurately guess.

The supposed vacation, albeit grueling, turned into a life-and-death scenario the moment it began.

The 14-day exam instead became the window to assess and sniff out every possible demonkind spy lingering throughout the humanity side.

"Seriously, you have some things up your sleeve I have no idea yet, haven’t you?" Sitting beside her bed, Maya mumbled amusingly.

A moment later, two knocks echoed behind the door, prompting Maya to scan whoever the visitor might be.

I see...

"It’s open. Come in."

A student with long obsidian hair, gloomy amber eyes, and a petite body reluctantly invited herself in—Himesha von Grisha, the first-year student who joined one of Class Alpha’s raid groups, and the daughter of the King of Grisha, the ruler under massive scrutiny at this very moment.

"H-hello... S-senior Maya..." Himesha waved her hand.

Seeing this, Maya snorted.

"By any chance, are you not feeling well? Or is it because you’ve become the talk of the decade in the academy due to what happened?"

Himesha, tightly holding a basket of fresh fruits such as red apples and green grapes, lowered her head at Maya’s words—though the latter was the truth, and it’s due to it that she could not in any way feel well under any circumstances.

Unable to receive a response, Maya snapped her finger, causing a fruit from the basket in Himesha’s grasp to float away. Seeing this, the first-year student was momentarily jolted awake due to such a display of magic and precise control.

Having an apple in her hand, Maya continued, "Put that down here. She’ll appreciate it."

Himesha then hesitantly approached the study desk, put down a basket of fruits, slightly looked, bowed to her senior, and was about to go back when Maya’s voice caused her to stop.

"I don’t get the bloodline accountability thing that nobles have, so I don’t care what your family is up to. But do you have something to do with the demonkind?" It was a vague yet seemingly rude question. Yet considering the atmosphere, Himesha was momentarily at a loss before blurting out.

"N-No! I-I don’t!"

Maya chuckled.

"Then you should stop acting like you’re guilty!"

"Un-? Ranaya?" frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

It was then that a third party’s voice interjected, causing Maya and Himesha to fall silent and look at the bed, where Alana slept like a princess for almost three weeks.

Due to her abnormal body constitution, thanks to [Luminous Physique], she was autonomously being regulated by her own body—no need for food, water, or to take a bath to maintain cleanliness.

Hearing the familiar yet seemingly random word coming out of her mouth, Maya and Himesha instinctively glanced at each other.

"..."

"...?"

Maya shrugged.

Meanwhile, another word escaped the sleeping beauty.

"B-brother..."

"She’s dreaming, isn’t she?" Maya laughed, somewhat amused.

However, Alana continued to mumble a thing or two until it turned into gibberish that prompted the spectators to tilt their heads in unison.

"L-Lugh... S-shadow! Dark??? Ahh...? Bed? Hungry... Save... Ring...?? Ji... Ji- Ji..."

It was to the point that Himesha’s complexion paled.

"S-senior. That’s, that’s not normal... I-I think so."

’What the hell’s going on in your mind, you bastard? Should I wake–’

Just as Maya pondered to do so, Alana was jolted into consciousness, her body sprang to bed, followed by a scream as if she was chasing... or looking for someone...

"F-First Patriarch!"

"Ah! Kyaaa—!"

Himesha shouted; She’s just a scary girl. Though even Maya couldn’t help but flinch.

With beads of sweat flowing down her head, Alana heard a voice beside her.

"What the hell?"

"Uh-huh? Why are you here?"

"What the fuck do you mean? Do you know how long you’ve been asleep since you were rescued from the island?"

"...?"

"It’s been around three weeks!"

"Wh-what...?"

Alana’s amethyst eyes blinked in confusion. It was as though what she heard had yet to completely register in her brain.

"I-I have to go!" Suddenly jumping out from her bed, Alana rushed outside—Or at least she tried to when Maya stopped her.

"Where do you think you’re going?"

Alana stopped in her tracks, and then muttered, "H-huh? H-how are you here?!"

"What are you talking about? I’ve been here earlier. Did you go insane?"

For some reason, Alana was still in a state of bewilderment; she was still half-asleep, to say the least.

On the other hand, Himesha, watching from the sidelines and unable to move due to the sudden turn of events, observed the situation.

Even she was perplexed by Alana’s demeanor just now.

’Is Senior Alana okay...?’

*

"H-Huh? H-how are you here?!"

Such words left Alana’s mouth. However, she was not looking at either Maya or Himesha. Rather, her eyes were glued upon a miniature entity seemingly invisible to the naked eye.

"Ra-"

’Ranaya!’

Even after being unconscious for that long, there was no fatigue in Alana’s body. More so with the fact that there’s suddenly a small doll sitting on her shoulder.

It resembled a girly doll, with crimson eyes and long dark hair.

< "I should be the one asking you! Just what did you do?! What did you do to me?! A mere human dares to turn me into this state?!" >

Suddenly, the message from the [Divine Guide] snapped in Alana’s mind... It’s about the mysterious doll she received and was involuntarily stored in her subspace bag.

...

[Ranaya (Soul Doll)]

Reading it quickly, Alana let out a deep breath.

She recognized the [incomplete talent] she possessed, something that was not exactly unique in this world.

Incomplete Talents, in a sense, were abilities not yet fully bloomed. After meeting a certain condition, albeit unknown to the talent owner, that only such information be revealed.

But one could use the revealed letters or words to try to unseal it completely. In addition, even if the information was incomplete, it didn’t mean inactivity since it could still be used or triggered.

Now, seeing and realizing what had happened, Alana thought of the closest possibility.

’This talent allows me to turn a weakened divine being into a relic... using their soul?’
