Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 26: Beast God Doesn’t Like It
Faced with Grandma’s scolding, Wu Yue and Qingcao could only laugh sheepishly.
Finally, after giving them another round of worried instructions, Grandma left, clutching her Beast Skin.
The two of them looked at each other and snickered.
"Wait for me here. I’ll go get that stone slab, and then we’ll head back to the cave."
’I was planning to divide the meat by the river, but it looks like I’ll have to scrap that idea. These fish are so sensitive to the smell of blood... I’m afraid the meat would be gone before I even got it out of the water.’
Luckily, the stone slab was right on the bank. Wu Yue quickly snatched it up and started to run, but she slowed her pace as she passed a few fish struggling on the shore.
’I wonder if these fish are edible...’
SNAP! A struggling Grass Carp leaped up and bit a fallen twig in half.
Wu Yue froze. ’It feels like this fish is trying to intimidate me...’
’With teeth like that, I’d better not mess with it.’ She turned to leave.
"New quest issued: Capture 20 Grass Carp. Time limit: one week. Quest reward: 1x Cutting Board. Don’t hold back, Host~"
Wu Yue looked down at the stone slab in her hand. ’Suddenly this doesn’t seem so great anymore. What should I do?’
"Dear System, can I request to change the quest reward to a knife or something?" Wu Yue tried to suck up to the system for a little bonus.
The system gave a cold, firm refusal. "Quest rewards cannot be changed at will."
Wu Yue let out a dry laugh.
She decisively left the still-flopping Grass Carp behind and ran toward Qingcao.
"Let’s go. We’ll head back to my cave first, and I’ll put some medicinal herbs on your foot."
Qingcao didn’t refuse. She had already given the medicinal herbs she had at home to Amu, not keeping a single one for herself. ’I’ll bring some bitter greens and fruit for Yue when I go home later,’ she decided.
After returning to the cave and putting their things down, Wu Yue went to the river to get some water. She helped Qingcao clean her wound, then applied the crushed herbs.
Instantly, the burning pain on her toe was replaced by a cool, soothing sensation.
Qingcao stared at her injury in shock. "It’s so cool and comfortable."
Wu Yue gave her a smug look, raising her eyebrows. "Pretty good, right? This herb is very effective for treating wounds."
Qingcao’s eyes sparkled as she nodded, already planning to tell Amu about the herb’s miraculous properties when she got home. She had to gather a lot of it the next time she went out.
Wu Yue rinsed the shells Qingcao had just gathered and sharpened one of them. She picked it up and handed it over. "Qingcao, I sharpened this shell. It’s very sharp. Here, you can have this one."
But Qingcao waved her hand, looking uninterested. "You keep it, Yue. I have no use for it."
Wu Yue felt awkward. ’Then again, it makes sense. The food culture here is so primitive, she really wouldn’t have a use for it.’
She used the shell to divide the meat from Shi Lin into two portions. She threaded the larger portion with a piece of dried grass, tied it securely, and handed it to Qingcao. "You should take this meat back with you."
Qingcao was taken aback and quickly waved her hands. "I can’t, Yue! How could I just take your food?"
Her expression was very serious. "This is the food you traded for the hemostatic grass. I can’t take it. The Beast God does not like people who take things and food that belong to others."
Wu Yue gave a wry smile. "But there’s too much meat. I can’t finish it all by myself, and it’ll spoil by tomorrow. I’m sure the Beast God doesn’t like people who waste precious food, right?"
Qingcao broke into a wide, carefree grin. "What’s the big deal? You can just trade the leftover meat for some wild vegetables or fruits that are easier to store."
