Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Trading Wild Vegetables

Wu Yue, however, was staring blankly at the full bamboo bag of dandelions on her floor. ’Looks like another busy day ahead.’

"Yue, are you up?"

Qingcao’s call from outside snapped Wu Yue out of her daze.

She got up and opened the door to see Qingcao peeking her head through the small gate by the steps, looking around.

Seeing Wu Yue come out, a huge smile spread across her face. "You guys won yesterday, so you must have brought back a lot of wild vegetables. I came to help you with them."

With that, she opened the small gate herself and skipped over to the front door.

Wu Yue gave her adorable friend a grateful hug. "Qingcao, you’re the best! I was just worrying about how I was going to handle so much food by myself."

Giggling, the two of them went inside and dragged out the full bamboo bag of dandelions.

Wu Yue spread some large leaves on the ground in the courtyard and began to meticulously sort through the pile.

Qingcao tossed aside a small twig she was holding and muttered, "Yue, why do you have to pick things out from the pile? Isn’t it much easier to just eat it directly?"

’With so many wild vegetables, how long is this going to take the two of us?’

Wu Yue looked at her. "When we were gathering them, all these twigs and some wild grasses we don’t recognize got mixed in. What if we eat an unfamiliar poisonous grass by mistake? That would be so dangerous."

Qingcao’s expression instantly turned serious. She stared at the unfamiliar weed in Wu Yue’s hand and was suddenly struck by how lucky she had been.

In the past, when she processed wild vegetables with her older sister, they would only pick out and throw away the very large weeds. Any small leaves or roots would just be mashed and rolled into grass patties along with everything else.

She immediately began to earnestly pick the weeds out from the dandelions, working even more meticulously than Wu Yue.

"Yue, could I trade for some of your wild vegetables?"

Suddenly, the familiar voice of a young female came from the courtyard gate.

Wu Yue and Qingcao looked up to see it was Cao Yuan. Standing beside her was the tall Mu Jing. The two seemed to have a very good relationship, as they were always inseparable.

Wu Yue smiled. "Come in. Take as much as you need."

As she spoke, she pointed to the pile of dandelions that had already been sorted.

Mu Jing and Cao Yuan walked into the courtyard and looked at the two piles of wild vegetables, one large and one small. "Is there a difference between these two piles? Why are they separated?" they asked in confusion.

Qingcao, who was standing nearby, quickly explained, "This smaller pile is the one Yue and I have sorted. It has no weeds or twigs in it. It’s very clean."

Mu Jing and Cao Yuan realized that Wu Yue had just offered them the clean pile of vegetables, and their fondness for her grew.

Cao Yuan took out a small Beast Skin bundle she was carrying, poured out the bitter greens inside, and then scooped a similar amount of dandelions into it.

"Mu Jing and I are always in Auntie Qingcao’s Collection Team, so we’ve never eaten this kind of wild vegetable before. We’ll take this back and give it a try. If it’s good, we’ll come trade with you again in the future!"

Cao Yuan smiled softly, her lips pressed together.

Mu Jing, standing to the side, quickly added, "We’ll make sure to clean the bitter greens before we bring them, too."

Wu Yue smiled at them. "Okay! That works out perfectly. Now I’ll have some bitter greens to eat."

The four young females chatted happily for a while longer before Cao Yuan and Mu Jing finally headed home with the dandelions they had traded for.

The Amus from both their families were dividing up the day’s hunt. When they saw the girls return, they couldn’t help but laugh. "Did it really take you this long just to trade some vegetables?"

Cao Yuan and Mu Jing chuckled. "We were talking with Yue for a bit."
