Surviving The Fourth Calamity-Chapter 381 - 180: An Ex-Lover is Not as Good as a Dog
Even though Viola did not seem to care much about Hill, Fran had long noticed the Druids’ overtly surprised expressions when Hill released Nature’s Blessing.
For these Druids, who lived in the wilderness all year round, Hill, who could make plants grow rapidly, was truly the being they needed the most.
"Luckily, there are no Druids in my family," Fran laughed, "Seeing Hill’s Nature’s Blessing, are you distressed? Why isn’t he a Druid, right? If he were, you could take him away. Do you think Hill is so easy to talk to?"
"If he were a Druid, he would want companions too," Viola did not deny, she indeed thought that.
"Hill is a Magician, and he never thought about living with Magicians either!" Fran sat at the desk, looking at Viola, "Druids, do you now feel like you’re neither Elves nor humans?"
Viola frowned, almost about to explode in anger, but she controlled her erupting emotions.
Fran smiled, "Don’t get any ideas about Hill; he has no fondness for Elves, including Moon Elves."
Viola looked helplessly into the distance.
That was the direction of the Dwarf Kingdom.
Even from such a great distance, she could feel the terrifying elemental fluctuations.
The attack by the Undead Tribe was very fierce; the Dwarves could hardly hold them back.
And those three Demigods of the Dwarves had simply left.
Viola could almost predict that if it were Elves, it would be the same.
The divine and Demigods above them would only take away their closest Pureblood Elves, leaving those like her, the Half-Elves, whether Druids or Mage Rangers, to a fate of abandonment.
It was just that these Half-Elves had already thought it through clearly, but those Elf Druids had not yet understood.
Possibly, they had not lived in the Royal Capital of the Forest of the Elves like she had.
There, there were some Elves who never intermarried with Moon Elves.
It seemed that every family had children of Moon Elf lineage, most of whom were heirs to their family estates.
But these children with the best aptitudes were actually preserving the purest Elven Bloodline.
They were even more polite than ordinary Elves, though they were cold to others; they never looked down on Half-Elves.
Viola’s status was slightly higher, but she had no interest in mingling with those self-righteous Elves, so she often hid in corners to observe.
Perhaps it was her natural Druid abilities that made it easy for her to conceal her presence in the Royal Capital.
So, she could clearly see the superiority in these Pureblood Elves’ eyes.
In their eyes, those children of mixed blood with Moon Elves were no different in status from Half-Elves.
Viola never understood why this was, especially since many of the deities in the starry sky had Moon Elf lineage.
But she felt this might just be a secret of the Forest of the Elves.
Viola did not dare to inquire further, but recent events made her very clear.
If one day, Elves face the same fate as the Dwarves, then probably only those Elves in the Royal Capital would be rescued, and the rest of the Elves would be abandoned just the same.
If the crisis came too swiftly, probably only the true Purebloods would be saved by the Elven God King.
She initially thought that being with those Druids was quite nice, and indeed she had lived freely for many years.
If it were not for recent events.
Moon Elves probably never realized that after the disappearance of the Goddess of the Hunt, they no longer had a truly powerful Main God!
The Goddess of the Hunt, though foolish, was sufficiently unreasonable and protective, and no one in the Elf Deity System dared to offend her.
In recent years, Viola had seen many high-level Moon Elves seeking refuge in Druid settlements, and from their mouths, it was actually apparent that those with a higher proportion of Moon Elf lineage were becoming less valued.
The opposite of what it used to be.
Ordinary Elves felt nothing, but those who had been in high positions understood that the will of the deities had changed.
And the Forest of the Elves, as always, lived by watching the deities’ expressions.
However, these Elves, once they reached the Druid camps, still brought with them the disdain for that bit of Elf lineage.
Half-Elf Druids were actually discriminated against.
Although it was quickly punished by the leaders of the settlement, that feeling was too unpleasant.
Yet, Viola knew that the existence of the Forest of the Elves was their true support, so she had shown little reaction, only rallying the Half-Elf Druids around her.
Until recently, she discovered that the Elven God King was like a super loser who could rely on his daddy to hold on in this world.
The deities of this world could only let him off as long as he did not cross their red lines.
That’s when Viola truly became inspired.
She wanted to establish a nation where Half-Elves could live freely, without the presence of discrimination.
Located between the Human Kingdom and the Forest of the Elves would suffice, as humans would sooner or later want to buy products from the Forest of the Elves.
Not dealing directly with Elves but with Half-Elves of human lineage would make humans feel more comfortable and happier about it.
Without the Triangle Zone’s human servants, Elves also needed middlemen.
Viola set her sights on the forest in front of the human city walls.
After all, it was almost a small forest where hundreds of thousands could live.
Once relations with humans improved, she could extend her territory to both sides of the forest.
With this buffer zone between them and the humans, the Elves wouldn’t have much of a reaction.
As long as the Elves still maintained contact with the outside world, Half-Elves would not disappear.
Even if the Divine King of the skies was displeased with their independence, as long as Viola didn’t sever the path of faith, the Elf Deity System wouldn’t really do anything to them.
No Elf could claim they would never fall in love with someone from another race! Lovers might not even be humanoid!
But Viola also worried that if they became independent and attracted the attention of demons, it would be truly troublesome.
The Druids and Mages she had recently allied with were decent, but there were really few legends among them.
If Hill were willing to recognize her, that would be great.
Such a powerful Nature Warlock wouldn’t easily be provoked by demons.
Moreover, expanding territory and increasing forest area in the future would greatly benefit from such a being.
Unfortunately, it was too late. If she had established a good relationship with Hill before he became legendary, there might still have been a chance.
Viola sighed regretfully, "Would it really not work if I asked Hill to help purify the camp and perform a Nature’s Blessing?"
"The King of Saral had Hill perform a Nature’s Blessing on his Royal Palace," Fran replied with a cold laugh, quoting an astronomical price, "He had to dig up space ore all night to afford it."
Fran looked at Viola with a smile, "You’re always decisive and have no regrets; don’t make me think that the woman from the past was just an illusion."
Viola burst into laughter, collapsing onto the couch, "I’m now at a crossroads, not wanting to look back, there are only two paths ahead, and I don’t want to take the easy one. I’m stubbornly set on climbing the steepest cliff. I can’t help but feel exhilarated!"
Fran understood that the lady had made up her mind to establish a kingdom.
"Don’t drag Hill into this," he finally warned, "There are some people you can’t use."
"What about Opal?" Viola sat up, cradled her face in her hands, knees up on the couch, and tilted her head to look at Fran, "Could you help with that?"
"My rate card," Fran floated a piece of paper towards her, "Many things in the Forest of the Elves are valuable, maybe Hill would want them too. In a Mage’s world, equivalent exchange is the norm."
Viola looked at the paper, her mouth twisting almost grotesquely before she finally spoke, "Even long-lost lovers aren’t offered a discount?"
"An ex-lover is worse than a dog," Fran said coldly, repeating the words Viola had used to insult him when she gave Melanie to him years ago—a statement he would never forget.
Viola leaned back, never expecting that decades later, those old grievances would be dredged up.
Finding herself at an impasse, Viola decided to retreat temporarily; not getting along could cause trouble.
Seeing her fly away, Adrian slowly entered the Magic Tower.
Only Fran could handle some of the Magic Arrays at the very bottom of the city.
His spiritual power was not yet refined enough for that.
So, once the base Array Diagram was done, Adrian planned to come up, but unfortunately, someone told him a bird had flown into his teacher’s study and not to come up yet if he didn’t want to die.
The Captain of the Guard of William seemed to pay extra attention to these Druids, likely having received some orders from William.
Adrian silently watched the Captain of the Guard, wondering how this fellow knew about Fran and that Half-Elf Druid.
Did William speak without care for who was around him?
Even though not born a Saral Noble, he was held in such high regard by William!
Adrian smiled friendlily at him, thanked him, and sat outside to wait.
He felt that as long as the two did not start fighting, their talk would likely conclude quickly.
Indeed, it didn’t take long.
Adrian knew it would be this way.
Both individuals had volatile tempers, their flaws previously masked by their love for each other allowing them to get along smoothly.
Now, the fact that they could talk civilly was a testament to their remaining rationality.
Adrian strived to appear ignorant of everything, humbly inviting Fran to go downstairs to work.
Fran glanced at his pretentious student and unmercifully retorted, "Your pretense is almost as good as those girls at the court ball."
Adrian chuckled wryly, "I’m just a bit embarrassed."
"Don’t be foolish," Fran said coldly, "Be careful not to let Hill’s preferences slip out, especially to those birds."
Adrian paused, "At this point, do they think the Forest of the Elves still holds any attraction for Hill?"
"They only know that Hill is a strong Nature Warlock," Fran flew out the window, "Other than us, only the Deities would know more." Adrian hurried to follow, understanding that Fran counted William among the Deities.
