Chapter 76: Ch. 73 - Gods of Seven Sins (3)

Livera did nothing as the red-eyed young man crushed the heart of the last half-demon he faced. If it had been Yon, perhaps Livera would have helped. Unfortunately, Yon had been killed first. He died without even having the chance to use his spirit and demon powers.

"What’s your name?" Livera asked as the boy’s gaze settled on her again. "You’re strong. I’ll remember your name."

Livera truly meant it. The young man was powerful. Unless she entered unification mode, she wouldn’t have been able to kill Yon and his four comrades as easily as he had. However, considering that the teenager had already drawn the attention of Primordial Demon Levia, it was no longer surprising.

"Shouldn’t you introduce yourself before asking for someone’s name? Or, have you grown too old to remember something that simple?"

Livera didn’t consider herself a sensitive woman who was easily provoked. That subtle taunt didn’t even scratch her nerve. However, the moment she saw the smirk on the young man’s lips, she had already transformed into her demon form. Not only that, but she had also entered unification mode.

Blue Phoenix Ravella. That was the spirit that inhabited Livera’s body. In its basic stage, the spirit allowed her to wield blue flames—one of the hottest fires in existence. However, in unification mode like now, Livera’s body had become the embers for those blue flames. She had also grown a pair of fiery wings on her back. The pressure and heat radiating from her body made the room feel like it was melting.

Without hesitation, Livera lunged at the young man. She didn’t care if she would die. At this moment, she cared about nothing except erasing that face. In less than a second, she was right in front of him, her flaming hands—now resembling bird claws—ready to tear her prey to shreds.

"My name is Mariel," the young man said, swatting away Livera’s flaming claws with his left hand—his twin wind swords had already vanished. "What’s your name?"

Livera didn’t respond to either question. Her hands and feet relentlessly attacked the young man, but not a single strike landed. Mariel wasn’t even fazed by the heat radiating from her body. More than that, her flames, which could melt the room’s walls without touching them, seemed completely ineffective.

"What are you doing?! Why isn’t my fire working?!"

Frustration laced Livera’s voice in a sharp tone.

"Tell me your name first. Then I’ll answer your question."

Livera scoffed. She enveloped her flaming body with lightning, attempting to increase her attack power and speed.

Yet, nothing changed. Mariel deflected every attack with a calm, slightly amused expression. He wasn’t even in unification mode!

"Livera! My name is Livera!"

Anger, fury, frustration—none of those words could fully describe the emotions pouring out of Livera.

She could have understood if her opponent had been Lergen. The doctor would have absorbed her flames until she was forced out of unification mode. However, Lergen wasn’t immune to her fire. He felt the heat. Her blue flames could hurt him. But this damned boy acted as if her fire was nothing more than an illusion. He didn’t feel the heat in the slightest.

"You have a beautiful name... as beautiful as your face."

"Spare me your disgusting words!" Livera’s attacks didn’t slow down. "Tell me what you did. Why can’t my fire burn you?!"

"I’m surprised you haven’t realized it. Is it because your body is burning like blue embers?" Mariel seemed to ponder for a moment before shrugging. "Your fire doesn’t work because it’s not touching me at all. The same goes for the heat you’re radiating."

"My body was covered by a transparent barrier and wind armor," Mariel explained before Livera could demand further explanation. "No matter how hot your fire is, it’s useless as long as my skin remains protected by the barrier. You have no chance of winning."

Livera immediately flapped her fiery wings and shot backward upon hearing that explanation. She needed to create distance and concentrate all of her fire’s heat into a single point. She couldn’t think of any other way to break through the barrier.

However, Mariel, who had been on the defensive moments ago, didn’t allow her to retreat so easily. He immediately advanced, switching to the offensive. In an instant, he was already in front of Livera, swinging his right leg in a kick. She had no choice but to defend herself.

She ducked to avoid the kick, then launched herself in the opposite direction. Maneuvering swiftly, she stopped a meter above the floor. Both of her hands stretched forward, and in the next instant, two blue fire lasers shot straight toward Mariel.

But just before the fire lasers could hit him, Livera suddenly found herself standing right in front of them. Mariel had switched places with her. And even though she had already witnessed that ability in use, she had no time to react before her own fire lasers struck her face and chest.

Livera was hurled backward, crashing into the wall—the impact cracked and scorched it, sending her flying into the adjacent room.

The fire lasers, of course, didn’t injure her. However, the sheer force of the blast and the impact on her back left her in pain.

She managed to land on her feet, disregarding the blue flames now engulfing the room. They would be leaving this laboratory—it didn’t matter if it was destroyed. Her full focus remained on the teenager standing before her.

"Do you still want to continue? But I won’t guarantee you’ll survive. Or... we can start talking now." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Livera scoffed but didn’t outright refuse. She planned to use this opportunity to concentrate all her fire’s heat into her hands. Only then would she strike again.

"What do you want to talk—"

Livera was too shocked to finish her question.

She had suddenly been forced out of unification mode. More than that, she was no longer in her demon form. She had no idea what had just happened, and she was too stunned to evade Mariel’s incoming attack. Even if she could, she wouldn’t have had enough time.

Mariel dashed forward and seized her throat with a firm grip.

"I know what you’re planning," the teenager said with a sharp gaze. "I don’t mind testing whether an attack that concentrates all your fire and heat can break through my barrier or not. But we can do that another time. Right now, I just want to talk to you. Do you understand? Blink twice if you do."
