Chapter 28: The Monster that got Out! Backdoor

After the death of the Dreamless Spawn, finding the others was not an issue, thanks to the Dark Crow, which tore them free from the dead flesh of their cocoons.

After exiting those dark, suffocating cocoons, they all gathered together and escaped from the stomach of the Dreamless Spawn as one.

The next thing to do... was to find their way out.

Zack had insisted they go through the other exit of the Spawn—through the butthole, to be precise. Claiming it was the safest and easiest route.

But thankfully, Hera had stepped forward. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Without a word, she walked to the side of the massive carcass and placed her palm against its thick, grotesque skin. For a brief moment, nothing happened.

Then—

An explosion burst from her hand.

The force was monstrous, tearing through flesh and even the rock-hard outer layer of the Spawn, ripping a massive hole through its body. One large enough for them to squeeze through.

Oliver’s eyes widened slightly at the sight.

’Even I can’t destroy the thick flesh of the Dreamless Spawn...’

The question of what power Hera truly wielded crossed his mind, but he pushed it down.

Right now, the only thing that mattered... was escaping.

Time passed, and finally, the group emerged from the corpse of the Dreamless Spawn.

They found themselves back in the familiar obsidian cave, its jagged black walls stretching endlessly into darkness. The sight alone proved something unsettling—

The red sands... the green acid river...

All of it had been nothing more than an illusion conjured by the Dreamless Spawn.

"We traveled quite a distance," Zack said, pointing ahead.

At the end of the passageway stood a massive door.

Oliver and the others turned toward it, their eyes gleaming with questions.

Was this it?

Their way out?

Oliver’s expression shifted as recognition dawned on him. The double doors were massive, ancient, and azure in color, their surfaces carved with intricate markings in a language he did not understand...

But one he knew.

One that haunted his nightmares.

"This is it... the door to the treasure room," he said, his voice steady, yet heavy enough to stun the group.

Yuki’s face turned pale. "Treasure room?"

"Yes. The way out. Once you take a treasure, you can freely leave the ruins," Oliver explained.

Unlike dungeons, where one had to defeat the main boss to claim rewards, ruins operated differently.

You only needed to reach the final room.

Oliver let out a quiet sigh.

’Such a shame...’

A notification appeared before his eyes.

[You have failed to keep your deal with the Scale of Judgement]

[Punishment will be given]

’Every deal with the Scale lasts for one day. If the deal isn’t fulfilled within that time... punishment follows instead of reward.’

’Being trapped inside the Dreamless Spawn for more than a day... how unfortunate...’

Oliver stepped forward, placing both hands against the ancient doors.

With a firm push—

They creaked open.

Slowly.

Heavily.

Then, another notification appeared before all four of them.

[Welcome, players. You have successfully completed the exploration of the Ruins of the Great Apheh.]

But none of them paid attention to it.

Their eyes were fixed on what lay beyond.

Mountains of gold.

Towering piles of rubies and gems.

Treasures that shimmered under an almost divine light, illuminating the vast treasury in a breathtaking glow.

It was...

Beautiful.

In this cursed ruin filled with horrors and despair...

This was the only thing that could truly be called beautiful.

"Wow... this is insane," Zack muttered, raising his hand as a special notification appeared before him—filled with strange markings only he could understand. To the others, it looked like meaningless gibberish.

"It’s not just gold," he continued, his voice rising with excitement. "There are runes... special weapons, even SSS-rank items. With this... I could build anything."

For the first time since entering the ruins, Yuki’s face lit up.

"Seriously? Can I get an SSS-rank staff?"

Zack nodded confidently. "Stick with me. With my ability, I can find something like that."

Hera glanced down at her armor, her fingers brushing over the cracks and missing fragments.

"Maybe... I can find new armor. Or a rune that blocks mental attacks..."

Oliver pulled his hood over his head, his expression hidden.

A rune that blocked mind attacks would be valuable—especially after what they had just gone through.

But for him...

It would be a waste.

If he could restore the Scales to full power, they would render all mind attacks useless.

He turned to the group.

"Be careful. You can only pick one treasure before you’re automatically teleported out—"

"That’s right... hehehe."

A soft, alluring voice cut through the air.

The group froze, their attention snapping forward as streaks of light gathered in the air, slowly forming a humanoid figure.

Then—

She appeared.

Floating effortlessly, a woman clad in almost nothing. A thin bra struggled to contain her chest, while equally revealing underwear left little to the imagination.

Two dark, angelic wings extended from her back, contrasting sharply with the two black, ram-like horns curling from her temples. Her long black hair flowed like silk, framing a face so breathtaking it felt almost unreal.

"...What is that?" Zack asked, his voice laced with more desire than caution.

It had been months since he’d seen a woman.

And now...

This.

"She’s a succubus," Oliver replied flatly.

[Name: Black Bitch]

[Race: Succubus Guardian]

Black smiled at Oliver, clearly amused by his awareness.

Then, licking her lips slowly, she spoke.

"And who might you all be?"

The group fell silent, unsure of how to respond.

Until—

"They are my guild. We have no name," Oliver said firmly.

Black’s gaze swept across them, studying each one carefully.

Then she chuckled, low and knowing.

"I see... you used a slave contract to bind them as one with you. Clever. That way, you bypass the rules..."

"What rules?" Hera asked, her curiosity piqued.

Black snapped her fingers.

A broken, battered corpse suddenly appeared before them, collapsing onto the ground with a sickening thud.

Its body was mangled... lifeless.

"When two or more people enter the Treasure Room of Apheh..." Black began, her voice soft yet heavy with meaning, "they must find a way to become one..."

Her eyes locked onto Oliver.

"If they want to live."

Silence fell.

A suffocating, dreadful silence.

’Shit...’

Oliver’s thoughts darkened instantly.

He understood.

Everything.

His plan... had failed.

Bentley had gotten here first.

And the corpse lying before them...

Was none other than Bishop.
