Talisman Reincarnation - All My Clones Are Dao Ancestors-Chapter 145: Deals with Zui and Shi Gui
Mu Yan wanted to solve things as soon as possible. Since they’ve already arrived, it shouldn’t be delayed.
Just as he was about to go up the inn and sleep to pass the day, he saw three people entering the inn.
He ignored them and continued going up, when he was called, "Esteemed Royal Eunuch!"
"Hmm?" Mu Yan turned, his surprise hidden, "Do I know you?"
Only then did he see these three people. Two had the attire of merchants, with small turtle symbols on their robes. But one of them was different – his robe was slightly shorter and he had a free-spirit air. He was the one that called out to him.
"Esteemed Royal Eunuch, I am an envoy of the Liang Empire, coming here to discuss trade with the Shi Gui family. They told me that the Royal Office had the highest jurisdiction in the dynasty.
When I wandered the city, I saw you and thought you must be a Royal Eunuch! Excuse me if I overstepped my boundaries."
"An envoy of the Liang Empire?" Mu Yan was interested, especially in the fact that these two behind him were likely members of the Shi Gui family. It seemed his sense was right – when heroes enter the city, all people will celebrate.
Before he even connected with the help he arranged beforehand, he was already greeted by another important force.
He looked back to the agent, who led him to larger room on the third floor.
The envoy and the two family members walked behind him. When they saw the eunuch inviting them, they felt that the envoy was correct. There was indeed a relationship! Else why would a secretive eunuch who didn’t state his identity allow them to come in?
If they wanted to build a relationship, they would have to have some worth. And from what they knew, the eunuch assigned here already had a relationship with their rivals, the Shan family!
The agent closed the door after he entered, surprise hidden at heart. If both merchant families were arranged, then half the forces and most of the money in the city would already be recouped.
He suddenly felt that the previous times someone was assigned to this, they all tried their hands at the office before leaving. Now it seems the issue wasn’t with the children but with the eunuchs – none of them were at the foundation building stage when they entered.
Being in the meeting room, the envoy was about to start, when Mu Yan raised his hand, a questioning look on his face, "Which family do you represent? I know that your Liang Empire is a Merchant Empire, and only families of at least the fifth rank can dedicate a family member to become an envoy of the country.
So, which family do you represent and with which family is the Shi Gui trading with?
I hope the Shi Gui family knows that ’trade’ relationships should remain strictly about trade." He questioned and threatened at the same time when he looked at the two cultivators from the Shi Gui family, both of them rather young.
The envoy nodded with a smile and explained, "I am from the fifth-stage Zui family and represent the Zui family as well as the sixth-stage Purple Grass Chamber of Commerce."
Mu Yan nodded and turned to the agent, who understood the cue and explained, "The Purple Grass Chamber of Commerce specialises in Spiritual Plants and mainly sells grains and grasses. The Zui family in this regard is known for their Purple Spirit Rice, a lower-quality mass produced rice up to the fifth stage. Although its quality is low, they’re able to produce even sixth-stage rice, their prices in the lowest brackets, which has allowed them to have a steady position in the chamber."
"Indeed, and we’re currently trying to plant seventh-stage rice!"
"You should first focus on becoming a sixth-stage family before thinking of higher rice." Mu Yan commented, then turned his head to the Shi Gui family members behind, "I presume you’re the one mainly trading with the Zui family in the dynasty, is that right?
Then your ships should transport the grain from the Liang Empire to the inner prefectures, intending to profit mainly from the price difference."
"Indeed, esteemed Royal Eunuch! I am Shi Gui Guyan and she’s my younger sister Shi Gui Guyin, we’re the heirs of our Shi Gui family.
In the past years, we have indeed raised the price slightly and have shipped a lot of the grain, becoming one of the top sellers for rice in the prefecture."
Mu Yan contemplated about it when suddenly, a thought spread in his mind. He asked his agent again, "Does the Purple Grass Chamber of Commerce sell anything else? From the name, there should be some grass-type spiritual plants, right?"
The agent was about to answer when the envoy interrupted him, taking the lead, "Indeed. While the Zui Family sells rice grain, there are two other families in the chamber that sell grass-type plants. The founding Ching Family and the family that made the chamber famous later on changed its name, the Zicao family."
Mu yan nodded and then explained his idea, "Grass spiritual plants are lighter and of a higher quality, very suitable to be sold in our county.
If you can get these grasses into the county, I will waive the passage fee under the rule that you sell the spiritual rice directly at the base price sold in the Liang Empire, no added cost."
Guyan was surprised when he heard this – the passage fee was two thirds of the transportation cost.
But having to reduce the price... was a bit much.
On the other hand, the envoy directly agreed, "We’ll do it!"
Seeing the Shi Gui family members were hesitant, he frowned a bit but explained, "If the transportation price is lowered by 60%, then even when selling it at a base price, we’ll benefit.
Our Zui family has always focused on mass purchases. Our base selling price has been chosen after hundreds of years of market analysis.
Selling it at that price will easily make us the top sellers for lower-quality rice at each stage!"
As an envoy, he knew that quantity was more important than quality in the rice business.
Everyone had to eat rice.
If they could sell it the cheapest, then even if their quality is lower, the profits they’d gain would be huge!
Every prefecture of the Ning Dynasty had many martial arts schools, literati academies, and a lot more. These organisations always focused on buying the cheapest stuff at great quantities for the majority of their students.
Besides these, there were many other forces and countless of rogue cultivators.
As for spiritual grasses?
Getting it into the county might be a bit difficult for others, but the Zui family could even benefit from doing one of the two families a favour, opening up a new sales channel.
